I'll try to add some more detail this evening, but thought i'd just add a note of hope to all the doom and gloom of codex:stat-fail going on.

Just played a 6 person mini tournament on sunday (1500pt lists), I had pure BA, there was an eldar flying circus, C;SM first company (2 term squads, Term captain, LRR, StormRaven + 2 Stormtalons, Vindicare Assassin), SW's (infantry list 2 x large BC packs, 2 x 6man longfang packs, Wolf Guard Pack, Wolf lord and wolf priest with 2 dreads), Skitarri/IG/inquisitor list and a pure IG list.

I won with 3 wins, Skitarri/IG/Inq was 2nd place and then it was IG, SM, Eldar and SW's.

My list was (approx):

Meph

Command squad (jump packs and 3 plasmaguns)

Scouts x 9

Tac squad (plas/Heavy plas) in a rhino

2 Attack bikes (mm)

2 Landspeeders (mm/hf)

RAS (5man) drop pod and 2 meltaguns, power axe

Pred (autocannon/lascannon sponsons)

Devastator Squad (5man) 4 x heavy bolters

Stormraven (hurricane bolters).

I tabled the SM first company and the SW lists and was nearly tabled by the Skitarri/IG/inquisitor list in game 3 but won that with meph gaining slay the warlord and capturing the relic (short table edge deployment as well!) on turn 7 vs his first blood.

Even without dedicated anti-air i was able to weather the raven/talon storm fairly well, my raven turned up turn 2, his fliers not till turn 3.

4 heavy bolters kicks out a lot of firepower - dropped 5 terminators and the vindicare assassin in 4 turns against the first company list.

2 x 3Heavy grav servitors coupled with a wyvern is horrible - cant close range, cant hang back...

Meph and Iron Arm makes hovering stormravens sad pandas - especially as the guy forgot meph was just minding his own business behind a building waiting for him to move within charge range!

round 1 vs space wolves, corner deployment, 6 objectives - this photo is after my first movement phase. Of note - the ras/drop-pod on the right side (with a SW dreadnought just behind the pod) and meph skulking around in the red mechanicum building on the left.

same time, from his deployment side. from l-r: dreadnought, long fangs, BC's with wolf priest, wolf guard, long fangs, venerable dreadnought. (reserves are Skyclaws and BC pack with wolf lord outflanking)

gallery_19254_6599_401998.jpgdeployment of game 3 vs skitarri/guard and inquisition (the lone BA jump pack guy in the middle of that large blob of guardsmen was his inquisitor - he needed to borrow a thunderhammer armed model from me). As you can see, not a lot of lateral cover on this board with this set-up... :-(

Great work!

Would you say the 4hvb devs were worth it? Say, over a sternguard squad or something?

Did you play the eldar?

Also: Pure old school army!

it was more a case of 'I'm gonna eat you little kitty, I'm gonna eat you little kitty.....'

(bonus points if anyone gets the reference)

Don't you mean: "'I'm gonna eat you little fishy, I'm gonna eat you little fishy....'"

I love it when Meph takes out planes. Mine's eaten a SW Stormraven before (friendly game, we allowed it) when it hovered. The look on his face...

Yep, dwarfers for life!

I wouldnt take a raven without bolters, they give you a much larger capacity to take on varied enemies. Its a full tactical squads worth of bolterfire for 30pts, and no-one can afford to ignore 10 bolterhits per turn.

The raven took down a longfang pack and half a dozen bloodclaws and a few wolf guard in game 1, 2 stormtalons, 3 terminators and the terminator captain in game 2 and died horribly to grav in game 3. Game 3 was always going to be bad for my army with no real way to get to him.

The heavy bolters gave me range, usually 8-9 hits per round and made one of the stormtalons jink to protect itself a couple of times. They do work well against heavy servitors with T5 and a 4+ save as well. Not sure sternguard would have been better, but for this army i felt the range was important since everything else wanted to be up close and personal.

I didnt play the eldar guy, tho i might try and arrange a friendly as he's local.

Sorry - not quite threadomancy but I couldn't think of anywhere else to put down the Eldar list.

Farseer + Skyrunner, Singing Spear,

Warlock Conclave (3) with singing spears

Windrider Squad (5) + 3 shurikan cannons, 2 Scatter Lasers, Warlock + Skyrider, Singing Spear

Windrider squad (5) + 3 shurican cannons, 2 Scatter Lasers, Warlock + Skyrider, Singing Spear

Still ahven tmanaged to organise a game vs him yet - 2 childrens birthdays to get past first (so all hands to the decks in both houses till that's over) but hopefully not too much longer.
