Your Blood Angels are simply phenomenal. I love the plasma ball effect on the sword! Belarius looks amazing too

I need to look through my boxes, but I remember going to WH Smiths and buying the comics, I may have the first few in there somewhere :)

Thank you! The comics are great to have a flick through.

I am proud to present the first of my Heresy Era Blood Angels. I haven't locked down unit or company specifications but once the back history is a little more fleshed out and once Forge World release a decal sheet I shall be adding legionary marks.
This army is set on Terra during the opening stages of the siege. With the Blood Angels being short in supply of new equipment, armour and munitions they had to sacrifice special weapons in tactical units to give them to more specialised formations.

Really lovely project, and I enjoy your little ramblings about the philosophy behind the army. I absolutely love the guy with the massive Guts-style Eviscerator. I'm definitely going to have to swipe that, because it's just too awesome.

I really look forward to seeing this progress!

Awesome work, love the guy with the Kromlech chainsword. Inspired a kitbash of the TH wielding masters of the chapter model for me, now just deciding on a proper helmet.

Thank you. The kit is full of great weapons, especially for Primarchs.

:-O

That is all! Will follow with interest.

Thank you for joining me on the journey.

This stuff is awesome. I was going to say 'especially the...' and something but the list got stupidly long.

Haha, thank you, I hope the latest entry adds to the list.

Little ramblings.

Little?

This is my heart and soul! These ramblings are my thoughts laid bare, bleeding out into the world!

HAHAha. I think we all have these little thoughts rattling through our brains as we paint these models. Who was this guy? What were his principles? How did he fit into the era? It's fun to think of and note down.

So awesome Myles. When are you going to run some workshops for gods sake!? I want your skills!

I need an event don't I? I need a newsletter for said event. I'm not sure when the next class will be. Either before Christmas or sometime in the new year.

Your Terminator Sergeant appears to have a metallic red scheme, but this is something I have trouble with achieving. Do you have any advice?

Check out the Tutorial section of the blog and you can see a step by step guide on how I painted the red.

Really liking how this is coming together and looking forward to seeing some more of it coming to light.

The next illumination....

I created this model as a mock up for a space marine legion. I love the champion of the legion command set. The mis matched armour fit perfectly into my image of a Blood Angel Force squaring down the Traitors at the siege of Terra.

Although some won't see this as the redoubtable Flesh Tearer (I understand when people read the novels they form a distinctive image in their mind of what the character shall be and any other rendition is dismissed out of hand) I created this model with him in mind. Perhaps it would be fairer to say that this model is inspired by Amit.

As with all the models to date there are no unit identification markings or legion symbols. I'm waiting for Forge World to release a decal set to ensure a constant result across my collection. I can also add a bit more weathering a chipping techniques to make the armour more battle worn.

In other news, I am freaking excited for the upcoming Forge World book. More than the rules or fluff I'm looking forward to the colour plates. I cannot wait to get some inspiration of my vehicles.

Out of likes for the day, but man that dude is awesome!

Thank you.

That bugger's terrifying enough to make a XIIth Legion mad man run in fright. Good show!

I'd like to think he could stand toe to toe with those mind mad butchers.

Sgt. Eremiel leads the vaunted Dynameis Terminator Squad earning battlefield promotion during the ill fated Varidonne cleanings. Hailing from the Southern Urals of Terra, Eremiel is a rare example of amongst the Legions of a second generation of recruitment from the Home World after the founding of Baal as the IX base of operations. Baal's barren climate has made for a notoriously meagre crop of recruits, despite the high conversion rate into Astartes.

No mention is made of Sgt. Eremiel beyond the Siege of Terra (where he is listed in the Honour Roll), however the Blood Angel's custom of changing their name when they attain a greater rank within the Legion makes his ultimate fate unknown.

Aaaaaand now I want to build a BA force.....but who doesn't? Because Sanguinius lol.

But seriously, superb work done on these models. The red is exceptional but what truly stands out for me is the bases...MY GOD THE BASES!!!! I wanted to base my NL around the siege of Terra but had no idea how to portray that....but now I just might! I presume you posted how you did them on your blog?

Rather a stern looking guy that msn-wink.gif

The blending on the armour plates is amazing. Did that take long to do?

Thank you! Hmmm, broken down it takes around two hours to do the armour plates and getting the light effect correct. Painting a mass of marines does cut down the time somewhat.

Thank you - and yeah Sanguinius is the man. He was the Primarch that left the greatest impression on me when I read through the second edition source books. And yes indeed I do have an article outlining it here.

We haven’t discussed the new sets have we? Or the new images of forthcoming book. Well I’m excited. Very excited by the possibilities the new resin kits open up as well as the art direction forge world are implementing for the 9th. Before we saw the colour plates I wondered what the secondary colour would be. For most Horus Heresy Armies it’s black, and it seems to be that way for the Blood Angels also. I thought they may have gone with a yellow as a throwback to Rogue Trader images (that’s not to say that you can’t use yellow - or that this is in anyway the correct way to paint the Blood Angels - the legion was large and had many factions).

Black, red and gold - a strong colour combination that is in line with their romantic vibe as well as being particularly vampiric. The black second colour will provide an excellent base for strong freehanded images. Unlike other heresy armies who use a sign system (abstracted human forms, eyes, roman numerals etc) the blood angels seem to have full blown fresco's painted on their vehicles. It's incredibly daunting, but something that should stretch the hobby legs of any painter.
9th Legion torsos and heads. I won't be buying any of the shoulder pads as I prefer to user decals. Decals offer a greater opportunity to weather the surface.
There are two things that I am eagerly awaiting from Forge world;
1) What colour are assault marine helmets?
We know in the 40K universe that assault marines have yellow helmets due to the reorganisation of the legions after the Horus Heresy. The yellow helmet denotes their role as fast attack within the chapter. However does this demarcation extend to Heresy era Blood Angels? You can find supporting images for either interpretation and I'm sure the sentiment that you can paint them however you want will persist, but I'd love a little clarification.
2) Decal sheets.
Will the chapter symbol change? Will it be more akin to the classic rogue trader style or the modern one.
In the future I'd love to have brass etch (I know there is a brass etch already but the new stuff looks Heresy centric), legion characters and special units but I am more than willing to wait for these. I think that the 9th will really come into their own at the Battle of Terra, which is for me the seminal battle of the Blood Angels that I associate closest to their back history.
I feel like I should do a separate article on this as the set opens up a whole new vista of possibilities for adding to and developing new armies. There's a great article on Bell of Lost Souls with an introduction to 30K and what to do with two of the new box sets.

Because I have 18 tactical marines painted already I feel that I need Assault marines next (because, you know, Blood Angels) I don't think this will be the best value for money for me. However, when has a good decision ever gotten in the way of buying toy models? With the sheer bulk of marines this set provides it will allow me to make support marines with Volkites (nothing says 30K dark tech quite like Volkite weaponry), convert destroyers, create breachers and fill out some of those choices that orbit around the main thrust of the army, but help modify it. I dare say that the terminator set and Contemptor will be incredibly good value through eBay and will allow you to easily create Contemptor Talons (maybe a small Zone Mortalis force) and Pride of the Legion Forces.
The most exciting part of this is the interest it is generating in the community. I can't wait to see a whole heap of people join in and get going with their forces. I can't wait to see the same inventive endeavour I see people put into 40K collections.
Until next time.
Myles

Sounds like you have quite the game plan.

Looking forwards to seeing it!

And here is it!

My Land Raider Phobos Astrophel. This was a big project incorporating many advanced weathering techniques that I have been experimenting with one the past couple of years. I know from the outset that my Blood Angels would be ornate and decorated with freehand. With lots of open flat surfaces, this gave me the opportunity to practice a little freehand then break it up with battle damage. Having now seen the Forgeworld colour plate I have a few ideas of what I'd how I'd like to paint my next vehicle.

Choir Exousiai Arcellus

http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o196/legendstudio1/DSCF1081_zpsknsuj6xe.jpg

Amongst the choirs of the 9th, the Exousiai were a caste of Assault Marines known to exemplify the high intensity warfare practiced throughout the legion. Squad Arcellus (thus Exousiai Arcellus) has been the main stay veteran assault company of the 133rd expedition fleet, having taken part in the purgation campaign of the Nictatine Doctorate and ruination of the Empire of Ludd.

The Heresy war took a heavy toll on the Exousiai, equipped as they were for xenos and light infantry purgation protocols. They found themselves woefully ill equipped to tackle Legion forces and suffered a high attrition rate throughout the rebellion. Archive photographs shows us varied range of armour marks throughout Exousiai Arcellus with battlefield scouring of the dead being a common practice to replace damaged equipment.

And he returns to the red!!! Welcome back Miles(although I'm sure you've not been gone but wrapped in other projects for awhile).

Inspired to throw another angel into the mix of my Fists after seeing your reds. Hoping the rains clear as I'd love to break the airbrush out and practice some more:)

Love the weathering on your raider!

Yeah, commission work has nearly all of time time. It's rare I get to work on anything for myself now.

Is the guy with the huge chainsword Nassir Amit?

Cool stuff you got there.

Greetings,

Velype

Cheers Velype. The massive chain sword guy is Amit inspired and I suppose could be used as the man himself. The paint scheme and markings don't correlate to what little we know of the character. Perhaps it's fairer to say disciple of Amit.

Sanguinator 5;14 Cassian Legante

Cassian Legante is here pictured at the fall of Lions gate, previously wounded by an unknown foe. He  is entered into the Mortis records, his gene seed unrecovered.
