Looking creepy!!. Wait a minute... do I see a Space Wolves bolt pistol?!?

Hmm, gauntlet and challenge are springing to mind, unless I am tired and it is just a Nostraman, and in that case as you were :p

A bit more noodling around.... So overwhelmingly, folks are not keen on the wolf skull combo.

If truth be told you are right, and it is one of the reasons that I really value your critiques and opinions.  Without it I would not grow as a modeller and a painter.

The aesthetic is all wrong & while quite ell executed, it just does not fit.

So I sketched up something.

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20151123_122155.jpg

The knot-work will run across the rack guard along the top of the Landraider, with the head section sitting just below the headlights.

The head is not knot-work per se, but at this scale knot-work is getting too complex to be done well, so I went with a softer more rounded tribal effect, which I reckon blends pretty well.

I do have a few other knot-work ideas up my sleeve, which I can sketch out and possibly one or two wolf head ideas.

This knot-work will be over both track guards, but the head is optional.

Do I go with a skull, so it is like life and death, do I do two heads the same, like twins.. Or do I do a decorative border so I can add a kill marking or something?

Let me know what you think. :)

Thanks Helter Skelter..

Lets see what you think now.

I made a quick start and a very rough first go at the knot-work designs befor I pack up to head for home.. Gotta paint when the ju-ju is flowing :D

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20151123_214004.jpg

I could possibly drop the head down a few millimetres, and I am thinking to extend the loops to the lights to almost make shoulders behind the Wolf head.

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/20151123_214019.jpg

The red eyes are going and the black lining will disappear when I get my grey paint. And this is just the first pass.

What do you think?!?

They waited in the darkness. Still, unmoving, silent. Prey was coming, registering ever closer on the sensor suite, blips becoming fiercer every passing second.

Five seconds to contact the squad warmed up their Volkite Chargers, starting as a gentle hum, rising to an angry Buzz.

"Terrorize"

The night erupted, ablaze with the fiery red, chooming sounds filling the air, followed by screams, venting steam and the explosion of flesh, as terror squadAita set about their murderous work. The best way to instill fear into any army is to attack where it is weakest, and that is precisely where they struck. Human auxilia never stood a chance against towering ceramite clad warriors. Even less so at short range, then hand to hand, those chances were practically zero.

Hyper sharp combat blades, and whirring chainswords spreading viscera across the walls and floor, causing men to slip and crash to the ground as they scrambled to reassert some semblance of order.

This in itself, was again, highly unlikely, as Aita himself cut down half a dozen auxilia with a sweep of his glaive. The auxilia were slaughtered to a man, then the killing stopped.

Covered head to foot in his squad mates, the last survivor of the terror assault stood, slack jawed and eyes wide. The ten legionaries gathered round him, in midnight clad, piercing red lenses giving away nothing of their souls.

"Run, boy. Run!"

The lone auxilia turned, and bolted.

"Preysight"

Ten superhuman soldiers bled away into the darkness, stalking their prey, alerting their ship bound brethren of a glut of trophies soon to be for the taking.

All finished, just in time!

8th Assault Company of the Broken Scythe Chapter, Word Bearers Legion

The Broken Scythe Chapter specialized in infrastructure reduction, called in to level foritfications and cities. The 8th Assault Company has been designated a cleanup crew, to be sent in to clear out any remaining resistance hiding in the rubble or to simply hunt down survivors who were huddled down and hoping to go unnoticed. Since this often came down to close combat fighting in tight ruins, or walking through enemy fire the 8th Assault Company favoured mk III armour for the bulk of its troops and didn't rely much on transports. When not being sent into ruins, the 8th were assigned to protecting siege companies from enemy assaults.

http://i1006.photobucket.com/albums/af182/Zujara/Word%20Bearers/tacsforge_zpsifkcoc17.jpg

Tactical Support Squad Zheris and Forge Lord Semon. Although flamers were the favoured weapons amongst the 8th, Zheris and his men began to prefer the use of volkite calivers to lay down support fire for others to advance as well as the psychological effect the weapons could have on enemies. Forge Lord Semon had spent time attached to a unit that was deployed with the Iron Hands before the heresy, and had learned from them more techniques on maintaining the volkite weaponry.

http://i1006.photobucket.com/albums/af182/Zujara/Word%20Bearers/vetrhino_zpsnayhhd9n.jpg

Veteran Squad Demik made occasional use of Rhinos in outflanking maneuvers, and specialized in using their melta weaponry to take down remaining armour or as sabotage to structures that were intact enough to house enemies. They favoured the use of mk iv armour due to the need for mobility in their role.

http://i1006.photobucket.com/albums/af182/Zujara/Word%20Bearers/728f6ee2-3401-4e05-bf0f-fc639f151076_zpstsojfj9u.jpg

Outrider Squad Lenarj also favoured outflanking maneuvers, but their role was to harass enemy positions and to ride down any that tried to flee. When the Heresy broke out and amroued marine targets became their prey, they switched out their boltguns for plasma guns.

http://i1006.photobucket.com/albums/af182/Zujara/Word%20Bearers/deredtaran_zpsocoaozcx.jpg

Brother Selig was formerly part of a heavy weapons team who was rewarded with being placed in a dreadnought due to battlefield heroics when his autocannon took down an Imperial Fist Storm Eagle carrying the loyalist commander. The wreckage of the flyer crashed on and around him, and his broken body was later discovered and placed in a Deredeo. Dreadnoughts were the preferred vehicles in the 8th since they could advance in rubble while laying down support fire. Tarantulas were also commonly deployed to cover the advance of the Word Bearers.

http://i1006.photobucket.com/albums/af182/Zujara/Word%20Bearers/thudgun_zpssluzihhi.jpg

Artillery was also commonly used to cover advancing assaults, and Thud Guns were preferred for this to pound enemies hiding in or behind cover. Since artillery weren't expected to come under direct assault, many crew favoured armour other than mk III

Quiet month for me, but I'm going to get cracking now!! Zujara, Helterskelter and Dantay, good to see you guys cracking on when the rest of us were nowhere to be seen biggrin.png . My vote has to go to Dantay for all the work he did with his free hand, which looks awesome.

My vow for this month

2 Rhinos

Contemptor with assault cannon

Praetor with artificer armour, paragon blade, iron halo, digital weapons and melta bombs

to the total value of 430 points, bringing my total to 1093/2000

Good luck to all this month

Not sure what to vow this month, likely keep it small due to holidays and I think I should look into building a light box. I finally got my own copy of book 5, and the militia list might end up sucking me in to adding some cult allies. Since I have tribesmen mutating into beasts in my fluff, I was thinking of using some of the Fantasy beastmen range and add some pistols and such on some of them. I did put together a power armoured force commander to see how it would look

http://i1006.photobucket.com/albums/af182/Zujara/Word%20Bearers/Beastmen%20Cult/pagor_zpsdeb24opv.jpg

So, opinions! Think I should run with this idea? The rest of the troops would look a lot more fantasy since I wouldn't do a lot to them.

Most of the vow done! The Contemptor is mostly finished, just highlights to go, and I hope to get him done tomorrow.

Praetor Salius stands before  Agae and Murus Ferrus [Mars-Pattern /Fealty: Legio XIII ]. The two Rhinos have been in service to the XIII since its inception, and have always proudly carried the third and fourth squads to battle, machine spirits roaring and combi-bolters spitting death.

http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u382/DG101/IMG_2156_zpsxr6q5gbd.jpg

Vencent Salius rose quickly to the rank of centurion, in no less than ten years since his acceptance into the Legion's hallowed ranks. He was marked for promotion into the Invictarii, quickly ascending their ranks and becoming a captain in the lower echelons of the first chapter. During the Calth atrocity, he was stationed on the outskirts of Numinus city when the first wreckage rained from the sky. Reports indicate that he acted with a calm and methodic manor which enabled up to 200 marines and their support weaponry to escape the meteoric impact of the Sammaranth. He is said to have linked his survivors up with those of Captain Sydance, and was sent to secure three important Arcologies for refugees feeling the solar flares.

And I'm back! This time with honoured brother Decius, formerly known as Sergeant Dergo Praxor. This completes this months vow, and I'd like to add 5 Fulmentarus terminators with 4 power fists and 5 cyclone missile launchers to it, for a total of 395 points. This will bring my total up to 1488/2000.

Some shots of Decius

Good stuff Praefectus Invictus now you can come visit me in renmark for a beer and game.

So guys my wrists are healing well so I'm back in it this month.

I'll be putting a praevian with fist and Volkite Charger together.

A cookie to who guesses which legion

Ha ha thanks, but it'll be a couple more years before I can drink sadly. Im guessing the Praevian is for the World Eaters, but considering I saw your topic in the AoD forum then it's hardly a guess tongue.png .

Looking at the rest of the year my dear wife has got me a list of jobs that will give me no hobby time at all this side of Xmas. Some bright spark decided as part of the lads Xmas presents to do a new Lego themed bedroom. This involves building and or buying then converting furniture.

So it's gonna be a hard slog from now till Xmas and then a few days rest before my hobbyfoo is allowed to kick back in and I'll crack on with his illustrious =][=.

Really feel like I'm letting the group down but need to sort RL out as a priority.

Sorry

Once again with Apologies to the English language, grammar, syntax, and all those rules my 6th grade lit teacher taught me.

Extracts from The Personal Logs of Inquisitor V. Balavedan

6.765.983M41

November City, was a burnished citadel, the heart of not just the planet but the whole system, and the spiritual home of the IX. Thousands of kloms of road work, millions of structures, and billions of citizens composed the capital city. It's location in the Sudentor valley graced it with excellent conditions. Underneath the city a treasure trove of archeotech would eventually be found, giving rise to the Kantaris forges, the coalition of the IX and eventually the involvement of a very specific minor ordos.

It's these memories that come unbidden as I passed through the destruction of the Payares district looking for a Novemberite man. Once colorful banners and shabby streamers lined the avenues, residents would decorate their habs and workshops with strings of light to show their worship of the Emperor’s light. Now ruins and debris lay claim to the landscape.

http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag67/NovemberIX/Tale%20of%2018%20Dreadnoughts/AE554F09-0663-4218-B82E-C149C78AC674_zps46posvvi.jpg

The rains had come to November, cold and all consuming. Puddles ran dirty as they emulsified the grime, oil, and ash left over from the fighting that occurred here. Streets glistened and craters filled. The Light of the falling sun glared low and revealed the extent of destruction. A lone steeple defiantly held firm, alone amongst street after street of destruction.  http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag67/NovemberIX/Tale%20of%2018%20Dreadnoughts/9E2DA077-60EB-45FA-8093-396ED0572EAE_zpslgcffqdj.jpg

Through the ruined window frames of a once lively drinking establishment I saw as he waited. Dressed in a brown long coat, subtle bulks gave away that he was carrying a number of weapons, a pistol rested on the bar next to him. From a bottle he poured a measure of a dark ruby liquid into a crystal goblet. I pushed through the battered door, catching his attention. “Inquisitor, care to share this bottle with me, it’s a quad that has aged beautifully”. An affirmative given, I took attention of the bottle, the label was printed to recall a finer art, a figure stood on a hill side, cloaked in a multi-colored raiment, the large font low gothic on the bottle read “The Peace That Can’t be Bought” in a smaller gold script underneath “Bottled 984 M~~ for the Honor of November”  The full date of bottle was curiously blurred, or it would have been if not for chain of events that started all of this.

Finding another goblet he had resumed pouring, “The Aleph Incursion is imminent, within 2 cycles at most. The reinforcements to the Glatisant should hold according to the cog boys, downstairs the machine is running at 107% and will hit peak in a cycle and a half.”

http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag67/NovemberIX/Tale%20of%2018%20Dreadnoughts/77DE4C57-649A-4D13-8A19-296BA6EF8C2E_zpshtvbtxuv.jpg

I queried him about the choirs as he handed me the sphere of gently bubbling liquid. As I had hoped they were still waiting in the adagio stage. Our glasses raised, we toasted to the Emperor and Ordo and drank deep. The flavors were a complex tableau and the liquid spread warmth through my core as it went down. He was right, it had aged beautifully, but while tradition had demanded our little ritual, time was running short and there was much work to be done.

Our drinks done, we walked towards the back rooms, to the hidden lift that lead to the undercity, and eventually to the relic that necessitated the massive and destructive defensive action that left the city of November ruined.

It wouldn’t be till days later I would learn, that the battle would cause the least damage to November city, the next cycle and a half would reap destruction on a scale unimaginable.

So the past 15 days or so have literally been spent trying to write that bit of short story. It's a fine balance trying to keep the "twist" a secret and move forward with the story itself. I will say this as a small hint, there are a number of names taken from a certain entertainment franchise that hint as to the future, and past of the the intrepid November IX (but not me, NovemberIX...)

SO enough about the story, what I think folks may care about a bit more is the construction of this game board. Lets kick this off with the table sans buildings...

http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag67/NovemberIX/Tale%20of%2018%20Dreadnoughts/4A44BB9D-0B4D-4940-82B6-806B74EB7D08_zps5t1yicu8.jpg

One of the great things I like about the SWM tablescape tiles is the ease of modularity. This was a quick but effective set up specifically for an apoc game I thought I was hosting (instead I host one next week!) I wanted to break up line of site, so I tried to get roads to jog out as much as I could but one unfortunate design flaw with the SWM tiles is there aren't enough T-roads, and there really needs to be some 90 degree bends. Otherwise I'm a happy camper. Coincidentally, my living room looks tiny with the tables set up as they were, until I realized rotating them 90 degrees opened up so much space. I would like to note I hadn't used the included attachment clips in this picture since it was just supposed to be a very temporary layout.

http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag67/NovemberIX/Tale%20of%2018%20Dreadnoughts/B4090ABA-8297-4919-AD92-9B351DA209E9_zpsagvshgxe.jpg

I ended up decided after doing a stain layer that I liked the glossy look, it had this rainy grimy dismalness to it and it worked pretty well with my basing. Having talked it over with gaming compatriots I got a lot of encouragement and praise so I feel like I'm on the right track. I'll probably do another coat after the apoc game to get some spaces that I think I either didn't do a good enough coat or needs more depth.

http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag67/NovemberIX/Tale%20of%2018%20Dreadnoughts/0F0DEECE-99BE-4D7F-A7B9-A902C982381D_zpskbmdaejt.jpg

In an interesting twist, the major painting and staining took just about a day plus drying time. Using a mixture of grays I attempted to airbrushed a slightly convoluted pattern on the different tiles. It doesn't show up as well here since the cameras white balance is consistently thrown off thanks to the reflective nature of the gloss layer.

http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag67/NovemberIX/Tale%20of%2018%20Dreadnoughts/5A5A8F00-D638-46AC-9B83-7047021C1BC8_zpsl1jynbtu.jpg

When applying the stain I was fairly liberal in a few areas and the amount of stain that went in puddled up and created this nice dirty water effect. Now I do have to admit, there are a few areas that I'll go back and do a bit more work on, since I've not added any metallics at all to the table. That should add some nice pop here and there.

http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag67/NovemberIX/Tale%20of%2018%20Dreadnoughts/535FD60C-1AEB-49CB-A593-DF3DE19488EC_zpstxyjyniw.jpg

This shot coincidently has about 90% of my completed army on it, all that is missing are three or so tac squads. Also missing are the other half of the buildings which leads me to my next bit.

This month of December, I vow to continue the building and painting process on November City and her architectural needs. Coming in a couple of weeks, in use shots!
