A great long wall of text and finally a painted miniature in years. i've decided every once in while to paint something to the ultramarines army that i've collected ever since 2003 (on which there are pictures scattered around this board somewhere), broken and remade many times. by 2007 i've started to take interest in the Horus heresy , but background and documentation of it as in regarding the ultramarines was low back then, right now i have the right amount of material and bitz to make my ideas possible, albeit very very very slowly as benefits of a phd student. I've been researching inspiration for this from many things, not only from other blogs, pictures, old background and images i can gather from that time plus things i've found over the internet, and my own knowledge as a Portuguese Art Historian/art critic/archaeologist. every once in a while i'll be pouring out thoughts and connections about my ideas revolving around the Ultramarines Universe the flavour text i put was a small part of a epic poem called "The Lusiads" written in the 16th century by Luís Vaz de Camões, it is compared to the Iliad/Odissey and the Aeneid, so i guess i could start from there. although the idea is far from perfect and on which i'm still struggling to make it flawless , i envisioned something as a journey of heroes that ended in a tragic death on which in the far future a young chapter will cross paths with what survived of their existence, gaining the means to reclaim the stars as once their ancestors did during the great crusade. thus the 89th will journey to keep himself alive on the fires of war during the heresy time, they will cross many perils and make contacts with the strangest of beings and on which they will make a voyage of introspection of their role in the universe ( as akin to the journey of Lorgar but with no heresy ), but on which they will sacrifice themselves to halt the enemy legions, thus saving the day but their legacy will be lost (and eventually recovered during the dark days of the 41st millenium), thus be something inspired in the lines of Camões, they will tell their history, their feats and urge the future to follow their example, as they once did in their time. i don't know yet how further this will develop, but i know they will perish in battle against a ancient chaos creature called the Adamastor invoked by the Traitor Legions (same name as the creature in the poem, you can check here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adamastor ) the model i've painted wasn't what i really wanted for the introduction, as i wanted to begin with the very start, the lightning bearers/the thunder warriors, on which their tragic ending would be eventually "re-born" in the 89th company, thus making their stories the same yet different at the same time. eventually i'll add that model to make a proper beginning. p.s: i say again, i cant promises updates very often, i'll try to every once in a while and when i feel like it to put something. feel free to ask questions, i'll be glad to help you in everything i can. i hope it didn't go out that much confusing.
