grand_master85
Thanks guys! Really appreciate the comments. They were so expensive, I was worried I'd do a totally duff job on them. It's just been an exercise in restraint with regards to weathering; after doing DG, I've had to hold myself back! Plastic Jetbikes would be great; it's certainly going to be pricey for my plans for them otherwise. Hoping we will get Jetbikes as troops for the Scars. Roll on book VI... Knight of the Raven
I find the glaive to look like a harpoon to stab whales with, personally. The jetbikes look good. grand_master85
KnightoftheRaven - I can see that. It'd be nice if FW did some Asian-themed weapons for theme! I'm hoping to see some glaives, daos etc; the nice thing about the Scars are that they're not solely based on Mongolian culture, but also have elements of Japanese and Chinese culture too. Haha thanks Luna707. grand_master85
So, a quick update; I was working on 3 jetbikes yesterday. Managed to finish the praetor and a random Jetbiker, but didn't finish the Plasma Cannon armed guy. Here's some photos of said Jetbiker, plus him with everything I've painted so far. Really need to invest in a lightbox and some daylight lamps. I've also started to base the guys, so there's some close-ups of the Stormseer on a fancier base. Finally, there's a quick WIP shot of the next 3 Jetbikes I'm painting. After that, I'll make a start on the next 5 Tacticals, plus their Rhino, and one of the 2 Sicaran variants. Should be a good basis for an allied section that I can work up to an army in their own right. http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/9D052BA8-3269-460A-9A53-D72D955F50D3_zpsgm1jitdg.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/6C707E55-0A3A-4E86-8D3C-3547FE7D049E_zpstx9jeuwo.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/26332E14-C294-4A21-8B60-A3BBDD4A1930_zpsuab7jlhf.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/397FA92C-55EE-40D5-8445-453036088C1C_zpssxjq0ozy.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/B71A8ACE-896A-4F82-93AC-078D44A166B1_zpsqg5hvueo.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/9CB8FA8F-0EB3-4F42-AE31-DA25C79BB9A9_zpscfnb5e7p.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/217D8FA4-451F-4651-A5B3-9576B207D18F_zpsxwtsl0th.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/C95C872C-28E0-4038-9289-7801A13E569B_zpsxnwo2bxu.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/A3935974-C36A-40F9-8169-FA43E79AF72C_zpsr4u6bcwa.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/6F000023-5D06-4EDA-81DC-08EC546FBEAE_zpsgegs1ifp.jpg 1ncarnadine, Loquille, Noserenda and 9 others 12 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314986-grand_master85-and-the-angels-of-death/page/4/#findComment-4220416 Share on other sites

grand_master85
Jetbikes galore! Here's another 3 finished Jetbikes for my burgeoning White Scars force (the sergeant with power axe, a 4th marine on bike and another plasma cannon-er). Though a tad time consuming, I'm finding them a lot of fun to paint. Just another 9 to go, now! Below are all my bikes; the Praetor and the first 6-man squad. Eventually I'll make both the 6-man squads into 9-man units. I've got 3 left that will form a small command squad for my Praetor as well. Planning to eventually get a Primus Medicae and Librarian on Jetbikes too. Hope you like! Now I've got the first squad done, I'm going to finish my troops choice by painting a further 5 marines who will either be Tacticals or Veterans armed with bolt pistols and tulwars. After that, it will be one of the two Sicaran variants. http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/F10A79C4-A148-4579-8505-E120F6AE7C43_zpsz6q7rrwb.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/B3BC2C89-AF4C-494E-A3A8-9A3796838E27_zpsxnoocomm.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/D0AC5BB9-0971-4C4A-9987-C8795CFA0E32_zpsaegvewtq.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/A77D5DB3-26FB-4F17-BF8E-04CF6A196A9F_zpss6twjwlv.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/F4150395-4A51-4DB4-A847-9A75E5B7E03A_zpsnkt3zhi4.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/B5612C72-312D-4502-B351-E249E0766DF8_zpswp0frkhj.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/39297F26-42CB-46ED-B557-AEAF7BC9D87A_zpsavhpgm9b.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/C6141114-573F-49B7-9629-410C6F571D64_zpsg4ax654c.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/CADB8CE1-E095-49C4-90AB-337735379388_zpsvbxxsqb2.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/6C3D476D-C0E8-4A8E-A982-4F2EC4CD19A9_zpsfvmipo8i.jpg Arac, depthcharge12, Lord Blackwood and 3 others 6 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314986-grand_master85-and-the-angels-of-death/page/4/#findComment-4231081 Share on other sites

grand_master85
@Charlo - no worries! It's easy peasy; get a charnabal sabre, dip it into boiling water for a few seconds. As soon as its out, bend into shape. Takes a couple of tries to get it right. Once it's dried, I tend to chop off the hand guard on the hilt as well, and use a hobby knife to press the fingers back into shape. Hope that helps! grand_master85
@Wolfpack - lol, GRIM :D I realised what it is that does that; when I use cotton buds dipped in paint thinner to wipe away the excess panel liner oils, sometimes the strands from the cotton bud get caught on the model, and then get sealed on with the Matt varnish spray! grand_master85
I know I should be getting my troops done, but I'm being naughty and soaking a Javelin Landspeeder I soapy water ready to build and paint today. The only thing I'm wondering is how I'm going to base the flying bases; I don't want them left clear, but I'm not sure piling cork and sand on top won't look a bit odd. Knight of the Raven
but I'm not sure piling cork and sand on top won't look a bit odd. Yeah, seeing as the flying bases aren't flat. It's "alright" with only sand in an army with similar basing, but the corks will look off. I'd suggest to use regular plastic bases and drill a hole in the middle/into the cork covering the middle. Not sure what size is closer though; 50mm? 60mm? The jetbikes look awesome either way. grand_master85 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314986-grand_master85-and-the-angels-of-death/page/4/#findComment-4232027 Share on other sites
grand_master85
Well, the inevitable has happened; itchy Legion feet. I've just accepted now I'm gonna paint bits and bobs, and odds and sods from various legions, which makes what I do seem simple really: Shattered Legions. Seeing as book VI will have rules for such a force, it kinda makes sense in my head, seeing as I'm notorious amongst my mates for not sticking to one Legion. Unremembered Empire is one of my favourite HH books, certainly in my top, and I like the idea of an Ultramar based Shattered Legion army. So at its head will be Ultramarines (always been a fan), and I've already got painted Imperial Fists and White Scars (my 4K of Death Guard are their own seperate army). I'll just add in what I fancy, when I fancy. Thousand Sons will definitely be happening at some point as well (those upgrade lots look gorgeous and I'd like to apply the bits of red I've done on the White Scars to a full marine). Here's a tester for my Ultras. The mini is a mix of Betrayal at Calth plastics (happy to say after seeing them in my hands, I'm a convert), resin MK IV parts and the UM Praetorian upgrade set. Another scheme I've really enjoyed, I was a bit worried as I've had a lot of success with white/off-white/yellow schemes of late, but nothing darker. Maybe one day I'll tackle black...next step is painting the other 9 Calth marines from that squad, and then basing my Fists and Scars so they all have the same grey as the Ultras (what's the future without endless industrial/urban/rubble bases after all). Hope you like. http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/4483F998-3233-4F7C-A99F-E04B6EF2D31C_zpswi2athpl.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/7941DCBF-1C60-4F83-A1D8-66766FBBBB61_zpstidk6v7p.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/E126ECD7-A478-45B6-B57F-DA6ADF15F0A5_zpsepvurdzg.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/DDE04144-BD25-4CEB-8E15-1B32174057F0_zpsljgsfoub.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/44E7411F-9FBD-41F5-99AD-3E2FBB8048BC_zps8z4mwfwa.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag332/liam_harrison2/Mobile%20Uploads/9B940B7F-D141-45A8-B148-F4870941FF43_zpsdf1q8d9a.jpg Edited December 7, 2015 by grand_master85 Dantioch, M@verik115, Olis and 1 other 4 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314986-grand_master85-and-the-angels-of-death/page/4/#findComment-4245683 Share on other sites
Daemon2027
Just played a by of catch up. The Ultramarine looks nice and gritty. grand_master85
Thanks guys! Trying to keep the style of all the Legions similar, so very gritty and weathered. Need to go back and revise my Fists thoughm, they were very early on and look a little untidy in comparison.
