Jolemai
With my group's next Apocalypse game three months out, the admins and I are in discussions how best to handle those who want to bring some 30k stuff along. We have read the Betrayal FAQ and my interpretation of that is "do it", but I was after some experiences and/or pitfalls on doing this. Have any of you tried it? Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
I have personally brought a RG 30k army, allied with a Salamander army and the opposing side had a Word Bearer force. In a game like Apoc, not even 30k introduces anything too crazy. We all had a good time, and other than some initial surprise (augery scanners tagging deep strikers...came as a surprise even though everybody was made aware of them ahead of time) 30k didnt have too drastic an impact on the game. Jolemai
Cheers for the reply. What do folk think about using the Primarches in Apocalypse? I've always thought they were fair game to be used, but I've recently been told that the reason FW don't want them used in 40k is because they aren't powerful enough. A case of that they should be godlike but end up being a let down. Not entirely sure I believe that... xxunphasedxx
I think using 30k/a primarch in a apocalypse game is fine. I once had Ferrus Manus kill a chaos knight titan, a kitted out deamon prince and 40 INVISIBLE cultists in a single 3000 point game, granted this was against a single lower tier 40k faction but the point still stands. I believe as long as they don't run their primarch into anything that stomps (I really wish they didn't work on lords of war, the thought of a stormsurge stomping Ferrus makes me cry) or has a D weapon, odds are their opponent is going to have a rough time bringing whoever their primarch is down, even in a apocalypse game. I think against 40k you just need to play it smarter and figure out what you want your primarch to achieve before a game starts to get the best mileage out of him. In summary, Primarchs can be very powerful in 40k as long as you have a general game plan for them and pick your battles wisely. PS: The imagery of Ferrus killing 40 invisible cultists is awesome. Jolemai
This all probably makes sense but we decided to allow the use of 30k stuff, but it needs to be taken in a 30k Detachment. Basically, whilst a case could be made for (e.g) taking Red Butchers in a C:CSM force, we decided to eliminate any potential clashes of the rules by doing so. We've also asked for people to say in advance if they bring any 30k stuff so everyone can be up to speed on the rules for them. Theredknight
4 of my group are having a big clash in Jan, we intend to do a bit of narrative. It being Erebus and mor phaeron are conducting some kind of ritual to sway angron into the blood God. On the table there will be lorgar, angron, and fulgrim as traitor primarchs. We will be fighting against imperial fists, and mechanicum. On traitor side we will have 2 war hounds, a reaver and a fellblade. Inc primarchs. Loyalists will have 5 Knights, war hound, ordinatus and big bunker thing. Possibly a dorn stand in model. (Fluff innit) We WONT be playing that terrible master of disaster thing. And all 30k. I guess we will see how things mesh and make a consensus on things as we go along. It is in start of Jan, so will let you know then! Dono1979
We play it as an All of Nothing approach to prevent cherry picking. You either bring a 30K Apoc force made up entirely of HH units or you bring a 40K Apoc force without any HH units.
