The Unspeaking - Bearers of the Word - Plog

Ok, time for another update.

I've managed to get the base coat onto the arms and get some of the detailing done. I still need to apply a wash to everything and get some of the detail sorted on the Legion symbol and boltguns - but it's a little tedious to do 40 of these at a time doing pad trims, bolter detailing, legion symbols...

Anyway, some photos:

And I've been thinking about the flame colour of the Legion symbol. I don't want to go too orange-y and flame-y, and instead am trying to do metallic yellow without it looking too gold.

Hoping to get the two tactical squads, the volkite support squad and the missile launcher squad done before the Heresy Weekender in a bit over a week.

Looking great man, digging the Metallic red (I know the pain, oh do i know the pain) but they are looking great. With the pads and legion symbol done the red most definitely does NOT have a TS vibe so you shouldn't worry about that.

Keep up the great work! thumbsup.gif

If you're looking for a way to add depth without any finish issues i recommend oil paints. A descent amount of white spirit used in conjunction with a hair dryer and you've got pretty solid control over how thick it is and where it sits. It's worked well for me using gloss red with my word bearers and mechanicum.

The log looks good, but there some pictures on the first page not working?

Time for another quick update. Doing 40 at a time is definitely not good for progress - but there is some to be had, promise!

I've knocked together half a dozen of each squad to the point that they're nearly done. There's still some work to be done on the Legion pads and miscellaneous detail, but this is pretty much what they're going to look like when they're all finished. How do I know that they're from different Tactical Squads, because one has MkIV pads and the other has MkII.

Good spot on the images at the beginning of the plog - I've reorganised my photos online into subfolders to keep things better sorted, and it's broken some of the links from what I posted earlier. I'll see if I can get the re-linked.

Yeah, the trim of the pads still needed a wash to deepen the colour and provide some shading. I've done that today with Miracle Wash, and debating whether to do any additional highlighting. To be honest I'm tempted not to do any more highlighting, the wash feels like enough.

You are absolutely steamrolling these guys, that's a real nice deep red aswell. The only thing I think is a little off is the pistol holsters, they seem a little distracting to me. Other then that I'm loving your production line execution.

Funny you should say that, as I was thinking the same last night. I went over and re-did all the pistol holders in Steel Legion washed over with Agrax and they're a lot browner now, fits in a bit better. I'll try and get some better pics when the light eventually comes up (it's 09:00 and still feels like it's the middle of the night, UK winter for you).

I'm hoping over the next two days I can get the bulk of the 40 fully completed, and just have to focus on the detailing on the command elements (Sergeant, Vox and Vexilla), and turn my attention to completing the Volkite and Missile Launcher squads.

Managed to get the arms onto the first of the 20 man Tactical squads - they just need some finishing touches and transfers on the shoulder pads.  Just trying to get the details sorted on the missile launcher and volkite support squads before I head off tomorrow morning for the Weekender (best weekend of the year!)

  • 3 weeks later...

To be honest, normaly i´m not a great fan of the metalic colours some people adapted for the HH Legions, but the red looks quite nice!

If you´re still having issues with the shine, try some strong diluted vallejo matt medium! I discovered this little trick after I bought the wrong varnish for my SoH projects( I have to coat them several times while progressing) and they hav been way too shiny, so I aplied one or two, as I said, heavily diluted ( 1 drop medium and like 12 or even more parts water).

There is absolutely no detail loss and the shine is gone :) !
