CplHicks 30K Ultramarines

After quite a lengthy absence for the hobby I've decided to pick up a brush again.

For me I've kind of come full circle seen as when I first got into the hobby my first army was an Ultramarines one.

My army list isn;t finished yet as I'm undecided on what to take at the minute, but with battlescribe I've found making a list much easier.  As soon as I have a final list I'll post it here.

Anyways onto the mini's.

First up is one of the Space Marine Chosen from my command squad.

I've used the Chaplain from the BaC boxset and added a bare head and a power sword.

Next up is the Rhino for my command squad.

I've also got to strip and repaint my MK2b Land Raider and Rhino ready to be repainted.

And finially I was testing thinned paint vs non thinned paint.  Terminator is painted with Macragge Blue straight out of the pot where the Marine is thinned with water.

Thinning paint works so much better and a really cant believe I've never done it before.

Hopefully looking to update this once my cork sheets have arrived to start on the bases.

Morning Cpl!

You look like you're well on your way to digging into the Heresy. Totally looking forward to seeing those vehicles painted.

One small point to look into. Thinning your paints down is an excellent way to start neatening things up. I'd avoid regular use of water though. As it dries, its much more likely cause weird pooling, "coffee stains," and other inconsistencies. You may not notice it so much when painting smaller single figures, but it'll definitely crop up when you start in on those rhinos or that land raider. I use airbrush thinner mixed with a little bit of flo-aid (about a 1/5 ratio) personally. They're both super cheap and well worth the investment.

Excellent choice of handle by the way. Micheal Biehn would be proud!

While I'm not one to contradict the wisdom of my battle-sisters, I will point out that thinning down paints with water is definitely an option. I've been doing it for years and while I might not be the best painter around, I have always gotten decent and consistent results. Of course, it all depends on what kind of water you have in your area but don't be fooled by the cool kids who need their flo-aid and thinners to paint. ;)
