That's interesting. Was anything at all said about:

1) How many books left? Could 50 be the end point?

2) Whether the authors each have 1 book left, or if some authors may do more than 1 remaining book in the HH series?

I was thinking that if for instance ADB, Wraight, McNeill, maybe Abnett, French, Haley, Thorpe and maybe Rob Sanders each do one novel, that could get you there. I think both McNeill and Abnett are very likely to write one more book about the final stages of the HH and as you say, that will have been pencilled in by now.

By the way, I think the limited edition of McNeill's Primarch book will be out in December but that would not be December's HH release.

Ah, yeah, anthology. December seems ripe for MoM, then...

If that's the case, I assure you that I'll be starring in an aggressive campaign of TV commercials, yelling at people to buy the hardback/eBook for their winter seasonal celebration of choice.

"KWANZAA, AM I RIGHT? HERE, BUY THIS. LOOK AT THESE GOLD DUDES. CHECK OUT THAT KINGLY GUY. HE'S GOT ONE FOOT UP ON A ROCK, SO YOU KNOW HE'S IMPORTANT."

Well my next job interview im taking a rock so I can put my foot on it.

Now that I have Praetorian of Dorn out of the way ( no book critic but too much alpha legion being awesome for my taste)

my next book will be MoM.

But Path of Heaven is tempting. Might pick it up.

As far as we know, The Crimson King isn't finished, but the Magnus primarch book is

When I got the new book signed on Friday they said that the dates are locked in now for the series finale, ie, who is writing what

So, whose writing what? biggrin.png

I think, and they mentioned it repeteadly - that where would be more than 50 books (numbered), so maybe 55/60

You still haven't read 'The Path of Heaven' - omg, you missed the most awesome HH book of the last several years

have we wishlisted the remaining numbered novels yet that need to take place before the siege? what major plot points that are known (ie. alluded to so far, or in visions of heresy) have not been covered?

might be wise to use spoiler tags, as the endings of path of heaven, angels of caliban and praetorian of dorn put certain primarchs/legions in place

I've certainly got my own little wishlist/expectations biggrin.png

Aside from what we already know is coming (Master of Mankind (ADB), Corax (Thorpe), The Crimson King (McNeill), Salamanders III (Kyme), a Garro novel/collection (Swallow), the Primarchs series) I'm hoping for/expecting:

A Death Guard novel showing their corruption, ideally by Chris Wraight (I've no doubt there will be such a book, mostly just hoping it'll be Wraight that does it)

A second Blood Angels novel, showing their passage to Terra. It's something that needs to be covered in some fashion, and it's been a good while since they got much focus beyond short stories or appearances in other books. Hoping Guy Haley can do this after his excellent portrayal of Sanguinius in Pharos.

A novel showing Russ' hunt for Horus. Russ does need to get away from Terra, and I just think this would make for a cracking story. Given their work with them so far, I'd love for Abnett, ADB or Wraight to do this.

These are the only full novels I personally have in mind. I also think we could do with catching up with a number of the traitor legions, either just because we haven't seen much of what they've been up to recently, or because I want to see a particular author doing more with a legion he's done well with already. Specifically I'd like to see more Iron Warriors from Annandale or McNeill, more Sons of Horus from French or Haley, more World Eaters from Farrer (I can dream tongue.png ) and more Word Bearers from Reynolds. Not full novels, but maybe novellas or shorts.

Aside from this I think we're likely to have at least another 4 collection anthologies. One for Tallarn seems likely, and then there's another 7 novellas (The Unburdened, The Honoured, Wolf King, Scorched Earth, Promethean Sun, The Seventh Serpent, Cybernetica), the Meduson shorts, and a handful of other short stories, plus any more they put out.

My list is pretty much the same.

I'd still like to see Nightfall, though. There needs to be something regarding the remaining Night Lords with the Dark Angels, including Sevatar, and we just had that end in Pharos too...

Besides that, I too think we have a Tallarn collection coming (Executioner, Ironclad, Siren & Witness) and The Honoured & The Unburdened should end up bundled as Betrayal at Calth. It'd be as long as a regular novel and I never liked that they were split up in the first place.

I'd like to see another short novel about Mars, to be bundled with Cybernetica and Myriad for the numbered series, like Tallarn. Shattered Legions with Meduson, The Seventh Serpent, Blackshield and potentially Scorched Earth. Not sure where Promethean Sun would fit in, due to being Great Crusade stuff and a mirror to Feat of Iron. It should have been included in an anthology years ago imo.

And I'm also in the boat of wanting more short form content to be combined ala The Primarchs or Age of Darkness. There are a lot of minor plotlines that can be handled without merging them into novels and would be fine with a novella or lengthy short story. I would hate those to go to waste, or be padded out with novel treatment.

A novel showing Russ' hunt for Horus. Russ does need to get away from Terra, and I just think this would make for a cracking story. Given their work with them so far, I'd love for Abnett, ADB or Wraight to do this.

Totally agreed with these 3 novels being on the wishlist, all very good topics. And indeed, Crimson King should hopefully be completed soon and be published first half of next year.

path of heaven, angels of caliban and praetorian of dorn spoilers within

proceed with caution

white scars just arrived in the solar segmentum after the death guard and emperor's children failed to take them down. death guard need to fall the nurgle, and there is also the hunt for typhon to resolve

blood angels need a magical plot device to get to terra, but one that prevents the ultramarines, dark angels and space wolves getting there. curze/night lords and imperium secundus plot will also need resolving

the other traitor fleets need to be moved into position. with alpharius dead and omegon taking over, it will be interesting to see what side they take. a novel from the pov of horus would be good to kick off the attack on solar system

the crimson king is coming

mars is currently contained, but that will change once the traitor fleet rocks up, so would be part of the siege novels?

Ok ok im buying it!

Jusy bought it. Gonna read it tonight.

So, I hope it's truly an epic read for ya? msn-wink.gif

Agreed - at last we will see how a competent Primarch would put space puppies in their corner place.

Please. Not more than 50 books. It's too much!

Assuming everything not in an anthology gets one, here's what were looking at for the moment, based on author comments and such:

The Master of Mankind

The Crimson King

3rd Vulkan Novel

Garro collection

Tallarn collection

2 novella round-ups

Betrayal at Calth collection

A collection of the remaining short stories + Meduson

As Corax is book 40, that would leave only 2 more slots until 50.

I fear we are going deeper.

Theres a book or 4 in the travels of the angel to Terra. If that graphy thing was anything to go by.

Then you need a book or 2, to explain the Ultras and DA being late

Then theres the book, where Russ tries to assassinate Horus, following the sigs scratched by Garro or the other dude into World Killer? Which will put his story as done.

Then you need to write why Magnus turns up at Terra, we havent heard from Lorgar and Erubus for a while, so theres another 2.

If I were to go by the magical combination of fanboy expectancy and personal bias, here's what I'm hoping for:

A Death guard fall / White Scars novel, into the siege of Terra. If Chris tackles this, we'll probably see Jaghatai as the "antagonist" as Mortarion was in his previous two entries. This could wrap them both up.

Sanguinius' journey to Terra and Guilliman and the Lion bumbling around in Ultramar could be 1 novel. Sevatar needs to meet his fate at some point, so that could be in there too, as well as Curze's escape.

At the rate Graham is going right now, I don't see too much from him post Crimson King, he's just too slow. Perty could probably get some more screen time in Crimson King, too, which considering the length of Vengeful Spirit, may even bring Magnus to Terra.

Russ going after Horus could also be a great opportunity to see the Sons of Horus ramping up for Terra, maybe even with a climax which leaves Russ stranded and the SoH en route?

Also hoping Vulkan 3: Live Harder will deposit him on Terra.

And then we need the battle of Terra itself, which can pick up the remaining legions in there somewhere. Maybe two books for the siege itself? The mars sub-plot also needs a resolution.

So I predict 55, based off of my incoherent ramblings.

Perhaps the end of the Heresy will coincide with the last of the Primarch books in 4 years or so? I think the last Primarch book will be Horus's, maybe showcasing his youth through to to his crowning achievement of being named Warmaster, a nice stark comparison to how he will end the main Heresy series, at no more than book 60. I like the sound of 60, it gives more than enough room to really fill out all the nitty gritty detail. Taking into account what we already know / can assume is coming, i would like the following:

2 books covering the finalisation of Imperium secundus and the arrival of the Blood Angels at Terra, much like the White Scars Journey.

More audio dramas from Kyme or a Novella showcasing Thiel and his general awesomeness...

More exploration of the events on Caliban / Dark Angels

Much as others have said, Space Wolves hunting down Horus but maybe only finding Proxies... maybe joining forces with Meduson and finishing off Marr / his fleet of loyalist hunters.

2 follow up novels and 1 novella to Betrayer / The Purge and all their plot lines from ADB / Farrer / Reynolds leading all the way to Terra

A novella or book dedicated to Erebus. So much background info to flesh out, especially his training of Argel Tal etc...

2 books to finish off Garro's story line / cover the Grey Knight formation / the Sigillite background info

A Novella covering the 4 years worth of butchery the White Scars handed to the traitors slowing their advance on Terra.. maybe written from the perspective of the Jaghatai discussing the tactics of the enemy with Dorn and how they evolved over that period

3 book trilogy to finish the series just as it started happy.png

Personally I'm expecting the Siege around 2020.

We know that the Primarchs series is going on until 2020 (admittedly it might go on beyond the Siege, but it could at least be some indicator).

I could see the Forge World books going on to that point too (2 per year, we're getting Prospero later this year, let's say one each for Thramas+Signus, Shadow Crusade, Mars, Tallarn, the Solar War and maybe one other of mixed things like Retribution).

And that could also fit with the main series, where we tend to get 3 or 4 entries per year on average, and assuming we get Master of Mankind as #41 later this year, three more years would take us to 50-53, which is about what I'm expecting before the Siege.
