veterannoob
To be safe I went with Thursday. Last Deathwatch open call was also ambiguous (at least to many besides myself) and found out at Convention Secundus there were 900 DW submissions and either there or twitter discovered it was earlier than I assumed end of day so I'm not even sure mine was taken. Nor would it be accepted hah! Anyway, don't take this post as proof of this time but I encourage my fellow procrastinators to get 'er in:) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320744-write-for-black-library/page/5/#findComment-4379341 Share on other sites

Kassill
Went ahead and sent mine yesterday just to be safe. Regardless if it gets accepted I now have to finish it... We should get a thread going after with everyone's submission and see what we did wrong/could improve on/etc etc to be better the next go around. Good luck to all! BitsHammer
Well, I got this: "Hi, Thank you for your application. We are pleased to inform you that we are taking your pitch to the next stage, where it will be assessed by our editors. Please be aware though, that you may yet hear a 'no' from us, and that there will not likely be any specific feedback if that is the case. Please be assured though, that no matter the outcome, you will hear from us (we do endeavour to respond to every applicant to ensure they know what the results are either way). As our editors are extremely busy, it may be some time before we can get back to you with the next steps, we thank you for your patience! Kind Regards, The Black Library Author Team" I just thought it was a generic "We got your submission, now for judging" reply though... That's wonderful! Also nice to hear that they keep you in the loop too. Ovidius Incertus
Sent mine in last night, assuming that the 29th actually means the 29th and not midnight on the 28th. We shall see. Congrats to those who got their submissions taken to the next level! Large and Moving Torb
Sent a submission in a little earlier today. I hope it's not too late. I'd been chewing over a concept the past couple of weeks and decided to put something together. Like Jack Burton, I figured "what the hell?" Got the pitch and excerpt down, did a little rewriting and sent it in. I'm not expecting anything, but I had fun with it. So either way, I'm pleased. And good luck to the rest of the submitters. Keep the rest of us posted. Well, I got this: "Hi, Thank you for your application. Loddfafnir113
Got mine in this afternoon, I'm daring to be hopeful about it but we'll see what happens. Hope they don't mind that my single paragraph summary was a BIG single paragraph. Best of luck to everyone who entered, and congratulations to those that got past the first stage, that's still a pretty good achievement. Obscura
I sent mine in a couple days ago, pretty much on a whim. It would be pretty awesome to get in, especially since I'm going to have a lot of free time soon to dedicate to projects and other endeavors. Captain Idaho
I made my submission earlier today as submission window is 29th of April. Last minute kind of thing. If only I had an insider to grease the wheel for me. I'll have to rely on "ability" - damn. librisrouge
I don't know if they're still taking them but I found out about it today, took a section of a story I'd been working on for a little while, wrote the summary, and submitted it. Who knows? If they meant "By the end of the day" I'm good. Either way, I didn't have to do too much work and it'd be awesome if it worked out. Captain Idaho
They should count the whole day judging by the wording. Regardless - good luck all. Kelborn
First of all: Good look to all! I sent my submission on Thursday. Haven't received anything until now. Let's see when it will come. Most likely a rejection. ^^ Doesn't matter. It was a good practice. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320744-write-for-black-library/page/5/#findComment-4380696 Share on other sites
BitsHammer
This writing contest got me mentally drumming over the Sisters story I want to write again. If I manage to squeak through I definitely want to write it. Then again I'll probably work on it regardless. I have a hard time not working on such compulsions. Anyone else feeling fired up thanks to this? Kelborn
/signed It gave me enough confidence to really work out a story about the schism of my chapter. veterannoob
Awesome news. I have more stories in my head so in the likely event of a rejection I guess I should jot it down as some fanfic. Never actually done that before, but was cool at Conv Secundus to listen to the group presenting. Anyone else feeling fired up thanks to this? Indeed. I'm jotting down some notes on other ideas I had. If this one doesn't pan out, I may develop some of these other ideas for the next time they ask for submissions. By the way, how regularly does Black Library ask for submissions? Loddfafnir113
By the way, how regularly does Black Library ask for submissions? Think this is the second one within 12 months, so hopefully there'll be another one towards the end of the year, though I don't think they have a set time frame for these things. Gothical
I submitted mine in the evening on the 28th, I was unsure on whether I would have had the Friday so I erred on the side of caution (and fortunately finished off my excerpt that evening). I'm not expecting it to go anywhere, but it was a fun experience. I felt much more comfortable with the subject matter this time than the Deathwatch brief, which I also entered. I never heard anything about that, it is cool that rejection notices are being sent out this time. Well, I got this: "Hi, Thank you for your application. We are pleased to inform you that we are taking your pitch to the next stage, where it will be assessed by our editors. Please be aware though, that you may yet hear a 'no' from us, and that there will not likely be any specific feedback if that is the case. Kind Regards, The Black Library Author Team" I just thought it was a generic "We got your submission, now for judging" reply though... Congratulations! Would it be possible for you to detail what you put in your pitch via a PM? The part of this process I struggled the most with was writing the pitch, I was unsure how much detail they would want and what the appropriate style would be. The only advice I was able to find online related to long pitches (far more than a paragraph, more like a multi-page synopsis) to publishing houses when submitting cold, which felt like it really did not apply to a situation like this.
