Write for Black Library

I've received a number of emails from the Black Library (advertising graphic novels etc) and every time I see one, my heart leaps into my mouth for a second or so, until I read the email title... sad.png

I'm a patient man, but that does not help! laugh.png

Heh, I'd be lying if I didn't say that's happened to me a couple times .

Multiple email accounts, my friend!

I have one day-to-day account that I use for fora, mailing lists and so on, and a separate account (with a more professional address!) for things like this!

Same here. Makes life easier to sort between fun and work too.

Just out of interest - what sort of themes did people go for? As the brief brief was "Imperium of Man", I went for something different to the usual Space Marines stuff. If everyone went that way, I could be in trouble...

Rogue Trader story here! How about you?

Ooo I like Rogue Trader stuff. It's a facet of 40K seldom explored.

I went with a slight gamble - Necromunda gang escorting a Guilder who isn't all he seems.

Gamble being it might be an exhausted IP.

I know my sales pitch could have been stronger looking back at it, so I've dipped in confidence really. I just wasn't specific enough about the plot.

...you mean an IP that's coming back soon so they would want to generate hype? With Blood Bowl tabletop back and specialist games all being revived recently, PLUS the success of box games like Execution Force, Deathwatch: Overkill, and Imperial Knight: Renegade, i think your chances are better than you realize!

Awesome! We should collect these somewhere after the open call "results" and have a look. Mine was about an Astra Mil cpt. who's losing his $hi+ as his only son and fellow soldier was just killed and he blames the Commissar so it's his personal story of how disposable and expendable lives are in the Imperium and how such waverings of faith don't play out so well.

My little tale follows a Detective-Arbite as she investigates the murder of an Imperial Scribe. Shenanigans ensue. tongue.png

Had a tilt at the last second, even though I'd given up on getting to BL by open submission a long time back.

Submitted a story about Howling Griffon scouts coming across a running battle between the Executioners and Red Corsairs and deciding whether to intervene and in what way.

It's a spiritual successor to my old Honour Paid submission, but a stand alone story.
