Brother Pheidias
"I received the orders of my new posting immediately after the Triumph at Ullanor. We were all still heady with the excitement of the grand spectacle of it all, the grandeur of the parades, and the awe at witnessing the might of the Emperor and His sons, and my associates and I dreamt of the glorious expeditions we would embark upon, banding fantasies of our deployments between ourselves. I must attest to my dismay when I read the roster. The 189th. Explorator Fleet, headed by an unknown Rogue Trader, barely numbering two dozen craft, counting escorts, and a few hundred Astartes of the V. Legion. Still, it was a worthy deployment, and I prepared myself for the task ahead with all due haste."Excerpt from the journals of Miriama Guelli, Documentarist of the 189th. Explorator Fleet http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u490/Revnesko/WH40K/White%20Scars/DSC01999_zpsrh0itcno.jpg "Brother-Sergeant Batuhl was my first true contact with the White Scars. Although his Gothic was often strained, he did much to patiently introduce me and my fellow remembrancers to the ways of the V. Legion, and although his words were few, often deliberate and measured, he was prone to a singularly dry wit, especially on those rare occasions where we were allowed to join the Astartes on deployment"http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u490/Revnesko/WH40K/White%20Scars/DSC02009_zpsa0tetvca.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u490/Revnesko/WH40K/White%20Scars/DSC01996_zpssiw9dthg.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u490/Revnesko/WH40K/White%20Scars/DSC01994_zpsrh3shlwn.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u490/Revnesko/WH40K/White%20Scars/DSC02000_zpsisprqndo.jpg"The "Tug Arban", or Vexilia, of Batuhl's squad. Dosjetka
Holey moley. Those tribal markings, while not perfect, add so much. I mean look at that MK V helm! I do have a few nitpicks though, namely: you might want to dab a bit of metal paint onto the parts where you've done grey battle-damage. Right now it looks like someone has flung grey paint at them and they don't look too happy about it. Also the basing looks a bit strange because the gravel is a completely different colour and tone from the other basing material. Perhaps you could go over everything with a wash and/or weathering powders to make it look more uniform? Anyway, keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing more! :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320874-brotherhood-of-the-shattered-spear/#findComment-4348594 Share on other sites
Doctor Perils
The mix of armour marks, the scimitar, the banner pole, the tribal markings, the weathering... basically everything looks great! I agree with Dos' about the battle damage: metallics make it stand out. If you go over to the fanatical side of things (and it clearly looks like these are a product of love), you might do well with some tiny highlighting around the battle damage, to make it look slightly more three dimensional :) Some of the golden parts look extremely bright compared to some of the brass parts, and when considering the over-all griminess of the models: maybe a touch of agrax earthshade here and there will make them a bit less blingy Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320874-brotherhood-of-the-shattered-spear/#findComment-4348670 Share on other sites
Jerichus
Really some very nice Vth you have there Pheidias! For the Khan &/or The Emperor indeed! I'll try a bit of metallic on the weathering. I'd been ruminating over it quite a bit actually, so it may be the way to go. As for tiny highlights, those I did want to do, I think I forgot (late night painting, a 3-month-old...). Don't actually have or use any powders, but I'll try and tone down the gravel. *snip* Some of the golden parts look extremely bright compared to some of the brass parts, and when considering the over-all griminess of the models: maybe a touch of agrax earthshade here and there will make them a bit less blingy There is no gold, but all brass have actually got a coat of AP Strong Tone I think it might be my terrible lighting, old camera and lazy editing... Really some very nice Vth you have there Pheidias! For the Khan &/or The Emperor indeed! Like the others said I love the tribal markings they have, and I really love that Bolter sling on the sarge! Did you Greenstuff it or use it from another kit? Clipped it from Sternguard/Scout Biker parts. Thanks for all the comments (and Likes!), There's definitely some stuff to improve, and I'll see what I can do to step up with these. There's a lot more to come, but progress may be slightly erratic :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320874-brotherhood-of-the-shattered-spear/#findComment-4348832 Share on other sites

I've been struggling to find the time to sit down and focus enough to write fluff, that's the main obstacle. As for the bikes, they've mostly been prepped for assembly, Scimitars and Outriders both, but I really wanted to have a good core of Rhino-mounted Tacs out of the way first before tackling the models that actually swayed me Beautiful! Brother Pheidias
"I remember the first time I witnessed the White Scars battlecraft well. On Ethros, the Heptarchs had broken their vows of Compliance, and I was permitted to accompany the Brotherhood to the surface along with Theld, the renowned Pictorist. Bathul kept us well clear of any actual combat, but we did once find ourselves on a ridge, overlooking a wide river valley, where the Heptarchs' forces were engaging a large contingent of the Brotherhood. All were mounted, and to see the surety with which they handled their Jetbikes and Speeders was breathtaking. Weaving a web of contrails and firelines, they systematically picked apart the massed infantry, feigning retreat on several occasions to draw the rebel forces out, only to turn in an instant, decimating the much more numerous Ethrossians with almost contemptous ease. When the rebels were broken and destroyed, an Arban of Jetbikes passed us close by, their ululating cheers echoed by Bathuls own warriors" http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u490/Revnesko/WH40K/White%20Scars/DSC02016_zpsnikmptjj.jpg Pict-capture showing Brother Halcheg, astride his Scimitar Jetbike, a vehicle almost synonymous with the White Scars across the Crusade. This particular craft bears a considerable amount of superficial damage, concentrated around the front. http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u490/Revnesko/WH40K/White%20Scars/DSC02015_zpses2yubpq.jpg Like all warriors of the Khagans Ordu, Halcheg bears numerous honour-markings, picked out in red. http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u490/Revnesko/WH40K/White%20Scars/DSC02017_zpspasyljbb.jpg The last thing many an enemy of the Emperor and the Khan will ever see. http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u490/Revnesko/WH40K/White%20Scars/DSC02018_zps0fmm8upu.jpg The powerful thruster, along with the anti-grav capabilities, allows the Scimitar Jetbike unparalleled speed and acceleration, qualities that makes it a highly prized steed by the V. Legion. "As I spent more time amongst the V. Legion, I was soon to learn that what I had at first perceived to be a reserved and insular character among the Chogorian contingent, was rather a consequence of their self-deprecating ways. On our journey to the Mehradian Straits, I was introduced to Brother Tonju, a member of Bathuls Brother-arban, with whom the Sergeant often sparred in the training cages. Outside of training and combat, Tonju was good-humored and humble, almost embarrased by praise, or indeed his very being as an ascended Astartes. When engaged in battle though, he revelled in his role, laughter coming to him naturally both in the cages and on the open field" http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u490/Revnesko/WH40K/White%20Scars/DSC02020_zps11exxymh.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u490/Revnesko/WH40K/White%20Scars/DSC02019_zpshb5i5zda.jpg http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u490/Revnesko/WH40K/White%20Scars/DSC02021_zpsukyaj4el.jpg So, slow progress, but it is happening. Tonju was singled out to show off my tweaked method of painting the White Scars, now with added sponging and metal added to scratches and damage. He's got 4 friends all done, and another 5 on the cusp of completion, meaning I can focus on the absolutely lovely the Scimitar Jetbikes, of which I have another 3 on their way for the ETL. Love the markings...love everything Thank you! Still enjoying doing them! These are some seriously good looking White Scars, especially in regards to the posing. Reminds me of the concept of the "Noble Savage". I can't wait to see some fluff and more progress on the army. High praise! That'll definitely be the way to go, also following the lead from Chris Wraights writing, there's definitely a duality to the Scars that I'm keen to push into the foreground, every chance I get :D Don't actually have or use any powders, but I'll try and tone down the gravel. I'd suggest a good wash of AP Strong Tone to tie it all together. I tried it on one of the older models, but I actually like the contrast too much to change it for good. Might try out some powders down the line instead though.
