Ironwrought Huw
Hey guys! I've been playing Iron Hands ever since I started, over 13 (ish) years ago. However 2 years ago I decided to reboot the whole thing - largely because I was bored of painting black on MK III armour (so many edges! ), and because FW's metallic scheme looked like it'd be fun to try out. And also because as we all know, the heresy train has no brakes. So I thought it was time to finally settle down with my own progress log. The fluff - will be added in a future post. The gist - The bulk of the force will be made up from the survivors of Clan Telum. Pre-Heresy, the clan was home to the more pragmatic and calm within the legion. Initially home to those rendered combat ineffective, it owes its existence to an ability to scavenge what it needed and salvage the remains of others. After their escape from Isstvan (and self-imposed exile from the legion) these skills will come in handy. Here is the current WIP pool - 5 cataphractii, a 10 man missile squad and a DIY executioner turret http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l545/Huberticus66/IMG_0494_zpsr2nvndpj.jpg And to end this post - a few finished units Pride of the motor pool, 'Heart of Iron' with techmarine http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l545/Huberticus66/image3%201_zpsjistdjga.jpg Martian Death Ray Club, featuring standard bearer Olis the Illuminator. Former apothecary, now a... thing. Olis
Martian Death Ray Club, featuring standard bearer Olis the Illuminator. I... I'm honoured, brother. Very fitting to be the standard bearer for the unit, I must say. ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/321034-rust-and-ash-shattered-iron-hands/#findComment-4352804 Share on other sites

Ironwrought Huw
Thanks guys, so much! Really appreciated @Olis - I'm really glad you approve. It just seemed appropriate @Notcus Cornix - my idea behind him is that Isstvan V has completely shattered his mind. Less combat medic, more battlefield executioner. Rather than healing the wounded, he cleanses the universe of the weak. I see him as a counter to Fabius Bile; Bile roams war zones to acquire geneseed for science! and crazy experiments, while this guy actively goes around purging those he deems to have failed. (Which is why he has a flamer slung under his right arm) @foamy248 - thank you! Here's another angle from the front A little addition to the fluff-blurb I posted yesterday (before I upload the main bulk) - the force sees itself as loyalist. However, they have a very black and white view of the situation - you are either with them or against them - there is no middle ground. Accordingly, they are more than willing to attack those who remain neutral - if only so they can salvage more equipment. Astartes, Mechanicum - anyone. Their willingness to salvage battlefield wrecks and outright looting equipment comes from 2 sources. The first is the Sons of Medusa in the Badab War (jn particular I liked the sound of 'techno-exorcism'). The second is a little joke on my part, as quite a few of the vehicles have been 'liberated' from my older model collection Unidentified pattern aircraft, believed to be a prototype or modification based upon the Lightning fighter. Designation D1M-D1M. This aircraft was one of many utilised by Clan Telum following their involvement at Tallarn. How or where they were acquired is still unknown, however some scholars believe that there may be a link between several gutted Mechanicum auxiliary supply vessels in the Tallarn sub-sector. This pict displays a composite squadron of vindicators, 2 newer Mars patterns and an older Deimos-Macragge build. Of particular note in this image are the secondary weapons of the vehicles - pintle mounted heavy flamers. The Iron Hands Legion were not known for utilising flamer weapons on their vehicles - leaving some to suggest that this is evidence of the Iron Hands gradually becoming influenced by the Salamanders legionaries rescued from Isstvan V. Also note the conspicuous heavy support markings on the flanks of the vehicles, denoting that this squadron is primarily an infantry support unit, attached to a tactical company. A tactical squad. Although primarily equipped with Clan Telum's standard MK III armour and Phobos pattern boltguns, note the appearance of some composite components - most obviously the helmets more commonly associated with Death Guard. http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l545/Huberticus66/squad_zpsuywk7nbw.jpg That's all for now! More pictures and expanded fluff to follow on. Cheers again! Ironwrought Huw
Wow, thank you all so much for the kind words and 'likes'! Absolutely huge boost to my painting confidence (and wonderful to come back to after a naff day at work) @foamy248 - I use the method Matt Kane/FW use, only slightly modified - I use slightly more clear yellow than Matt does. Here's the link for ya (special thanks to @Urza for directing me to this method) http://m-k-painting-studio.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/iron-hands-armour-guide.html I've got a rhino on my work bench, when I paint it up I could do a quick photo-guide of how I paint vehicles, if you want? On with the photos. Tonight - My avatar - Ironwrought Huw. (Warning: tongue very firmly in cheek when I was writing this) The story behind this model comes all the way from when I first started playing, and a line in the rule book (3rd edition) regarding HQs. Your HQ choice represented you, the commander on the battlefield. This idea has stayed with me over the years - and as a bit of a joke, I wanted to try and get that here - so, a quick head-swap, and (my first ever attempt) painted facial hair, and here we have my avatar. Pale skin, light hair and dark facial hair, and a woeful inability to bring victory on the battlefield... I wanted to be able to field the model in a variety of roles - Praetor/Iron Father, Forge Lord, slightly over-the-top techmarine, and with different wargear - to that end, I magnetised him. Some might say I went a little overboard. Personally I think I didn't go far enough... A recruit from the Northern wastelands of Old Albion's Rust Valley, Huw is amongst the last Terrans to join the Xth legion. Due to technical aptitude, he joins the ranks of the techmarines, and immediately prior to the Heresy Huw is inducted into the Iron Fratery. He does not participate in the Dropsite at Isstvan - remaining in orbit, assisting in the preparation of equipment and later recovery of those evacuated from Isstvan. Due to the majority of Clan Telum's leadership being lost at Isstvan V, he becomes one of several joint leaders for the Clan Telum fighting cell. ------- And there he is. As the dust settles I get my first view of him since our last encounter in the skies above Isstvan. Former captain Abelew Strowed, Third Legion. I'd recognise that self-satisfied smirk anywhere - even if it is grotesquely disfigured now. He drove a sword through my breastplate last time I saw him, after he and a several other traitors entered our ship while pretending to be loyalists. I intend to return the favour. +++SERVO ARM STATUS: FOLDED+++ +++GRAVITON STATUS: OFFLINE; FOLDED+++ +++VOLKITE STATUS: FULL CHARGE; FOLD/_READY+++ He dramatically flourishes an overly ornate sabre, daring me to make the first move and enter some juvenile play fight. I don't have the patience for this. +++TARGETING SOLUTION+++ +++TACTICAL DREADNOUGHT; TARTAROS [LEGION III_/PHOENIX]+++ +++CENTRE MASS; 98.1% CHANCE+++ Strowed takes a step forward. "I was there" my former comrade hisses, evidently hoping for a repeat of our first duel. With a gentle hiss of hydraulics and whine of servos, the Volkite Charger swings down and around from my back, the target-feed laid over my vision showing a clear shot at his chest. "I was there, the day Manus fell". I've heard that far too much for it to have any kind of impact on me. I'm not going to let him get any satisfaction from Manus' death. "And?" +++FIRE+++ The Charger triggers, briefly filling the air with a low-rumbling, resonating choooom - almost immediately followed by the high pitched crack of ceremite shattering. Abelew looks down to the gaping hole in his chest, the edges of the torn battle plate still glowing - the smirk suddenly replaced with a look of surprise. He tries to speak, but the charred, blackened mess of his lungs fail. He fails heavily to his knees, like a marionette with its string severed, before toppling over into the dirt. ------ Once again, thanks for reading. I hope the above post wasn't too painful to read... Cheers!
