Damon Nightman
Thank you! lol i hate those anteater looking ones too. I didn't know that was crappy MKIV before GW could do it right like B@C. I regret putting that helm on a PF guy, but i assembled this batch of DC back when they first came out and didn't touch them again until recently... I also used ridiculous amounts of glue for no reason back then, so getting it off would be tricky... younger me Charlo i actually was going to ask your advice on something, so i'll do it here now. When you do black for vehicles, do you just spray black, high light and thats it? or do you spray black, apply a layer or two of black paint, and then highlight? I tried doing the latter on my pred, and immediately after putting one layer of black it looked incredibly uneven and the brush strokes were very noticeable when in the light. Idk if i just didn't thin my black paint down enough or what. I don't think i can really go the just highlight over the spray route here with my drop pods since i primed in very humid weather and some of it isn't like even and has a textured almost look that i'd need to cover with some paint. It's nothing too bad, but would be noticeable if i didn't put at least one layer of black over it.... But i would still just like to know your method! Charlo
Halfords matte black spray. Thats it really! I use it for all my undercoating. It leaves a really nice finish that lets just enough natural light bounce off. I do a very little bit of silver edge hilights too, but not much. My storm raven is pretty much just black spray: http://i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah177/nevscorner/Raven_zpskhht9gnn.jpg Dont-Be-Haten 1 Back to top
Arkangilos
Sweet DC and chaplain! Looking great man! How'd you get the white so smooth?
Damon Nightman
Thank you Ark! I've had people at the shop ask me that too, but all i do is prime it the GW corax white? and put one maybe two layers of ulthuan grey. I add nuln oil to the undercoat before i add the ulthuan grey. In the fluff would it be extremely out of the ordinary to have white chaplains? Charlo, that raven looks awesome. Next question, how did you do the windows? Arkangilos
Well the black armor is symbolic, so you'd have to inject some other symbolism to make it work. Since your guys are the Revenants, I'd just go back to the rebirth thing. Rather than being black in mourning for the Emperor, they are white in the purity of rebirth? Anyways, something to explain it would be all you need. Damon Nightman 1 Back to top
Charlo
Whit Chaplain? No issue at all from me. Your chapter just does something a little different. Maybe it's to make them look like ghosts etc. And thanks! I am rather proud of the Raven. Windows were simply covered in the old school GW Green Ink :P I heavily dry-brushed the Techmarine and servitor a lime green on thier front and then built up to white in small areas, so it looked like the console was illuminating them from inside. Grazcruzk
The white chaplain is awesome! I thought the skull helm worked pretty well, have you tried doing it cream or off-white? I think the mkiv helms give a pretty good skull feel to them as it is. Damon Nightman 1 Back to top
Damon Nightman
Thank you Graz! I have not tried a cream or off-white color, but you mentioning that makes me want to incorporate it somewhere. Were you suggesting cream (ushabiti bone is what I would use) for the skull effect on the helm? So basically still all white with a cream/skull helm? On a different note... I was planning on white SG, but now since I've done white for chaplains and Priests, it might be too much to have SG white as well. Maybe I'll do a one colored SG? Or bone colored SP and keep SG white? Or black SG with gold deathmasks? Man I'm so indecisive lol. Every time I think I have something set in stone, other options start popping into my he'd lol Edited September 28, 2016 by Brother Lemartes

So basically still all white with a cream/skull helm? Yeah, I was imagining just for the helm. Subtle but obvious nod to the traditional skull theme! Damon Nightman
Thank you Luther! I'm gonna leave the helm white for now since I don't feel like messing with this guy anymore until I finish the ridiculous amount of other stuff I have and keep ordering... But that sounds like a good idea Graz. I'll try it on my next chap who also does not have a skull helm... Hope no one cares that half of my chaps will be rocking regularish helms... Grazcruzk
oooh, nice work! Nice poses all around. Good use of the mk viii legs on the fist fellow, is that a custom job on the fingers? I don't recognize it.

Damon Nightman
Thanks guys! That's the power fist from the Assault squad box, Graz. Honestly not too happy with how they are turning out so far. Black looked a lot better on the DC armor with all the bling to break it up.... Grazcruzk
Running into a similar problem. I like less bling and there isn't a lot of room between bare mkiv and totally fanced up DC/BA bits. They are certainly dead ringers for DC, although the lack of scrolls and all is a little against the traditional fluff. I like them.
Damon Nightman
I still need to add the X and give them red knee pads, so hopefully that helps... I too wanted to avoid a lot a bling in general for my army, but it's rough if you want to use any of the BA kits... These guys are going to stand out compared to my "normal" DC using the DC kit. My reasoning/justification is if a vet falls to the rage, his armor is painted black and the bling is left alone. If a newbie falls, armor is painted black and no bling is added. So basically you can vaguely tell where each DC came from judging by the bling. The DC bling matches my regular chapter badge/theme so it's not like specific DC heraldry that they have in my chapter at least...
Charlo
I think they look fine dude. They aren't as blinged but they'll look fine mixed among other DC.
Damon Nightman
Only fine?!?! Haha I'm just kidding dude, thank you I really appreciate it! LutherMax
Looks good! What's the battle plan? Damon Nightman 1 Back to top
Damon Nightman
Pray for first turn and hope my opponent doesn't hide lol. If he gives me a good target for meltacide I'll drop them in with a dread 1st turn. If not, 2 DC dreads coming down to distract while everything else zooms up the field. I'm bringing myself since I was using the model as a DC chap and thought I'd just try being me and see how that works out. I'm thinking I'll be the warlord and try and get a +4 Fnp with the trait. I've squeaked out 2 campaign victories against these necrons already (at 1and 1.5k). I just ran up the field and assaulted as much as possible. It doesn't end up too well, I can't really kill too much in the decurion, but I've been able to tie him up and have barely enough stuff left to cap the objectives at the end to win. I'm hoping to pull that off again. Necrons are so slow I can just beat them to the objectives if I have anything left by the end. No idea what the mission is yet this week though. Dont-Be-Haten
Always remember to "shoot" (throw) grenades when in range. I used to always forget I could 3/4x melta and throw a grenade on one of the non melta guys. Depending on what he brings always screen your models as best you can do he has to shoot through your units. A 5+ cover save against gauss is better than nothing. If he brings lychstar don't try to crash into it unless you absolutely have to, work around it. Your dreads will auto force necron Warriors to use our weapons are useless, unless he wants to tar pit it until his wraiths or lychguard can move within striking range. Focus fire his wraiths with your dakka preds, T5 and 3++ aren't that scarey when you pump them full of mid strength weapons fire and force saves. Scarabs die in droves to template weapons, even though spyders can become annoying. Don't get discouraged by re-ans as that's just how the army plays, win through assault and weight of attacks. Always stay out of rapid fire range with tanks/dreads until you are fairly certain you can get the assault off, or screen your dreads with death company squads to give him the aformentioned cover save and then multi assault.
