I probably have 6000 points ready to paint, but I know that's unrealistic so I broke it up into several sizes of vows. I plan to start with the 2 larger ones and see how I do, and then move on to the smaller ones as crunch time comes.
I'll be aiming to go BIG so my first vow will be a 3,000 point vow made up of 18 characters. It's taken over a week to shuffle points around to get 3,000 points on the nose, I kept getting just over or 80 points short. Depending on how quickly I get these done I'll then look if it's possible to do another 3,000 point or if I need to scale back. Just need to double check my calculations.
My brother might take part. He's unable to safely use the internet as he's very autistic and well let's say that's just one of his problems. The badge in my signature commemorates the single model he managed back in ETLII. Will check with Semper if he's ok to take part as he did in 2013 by proxy. If he is then I'll discuss it with him.

All I have left to do for prep is glue the tracks on 3 Deimos pattern Rhinos, then I'll have the following:

Wolf Lord in TDA with chainfist and combi-melta

Wolf Lord in PA with plasma pistol and frost axe

Cypher (my counts-as model)

Contemptor Dreadnought with Multi-melta and Dreadnought CCW

5 WG in TDA - 2xLCs, 2x TH&SS, 1xPW&SB

21 Grey Hunters with bolters

3 Grey Hunters with meltaguns

3 WGPLs with PWs

3 Deimos-pattern Rhinos

4 Long Fangs - 1 LFA and 3 with HBs

1 Storm Eagle with missile pods and 2xTL-LCs

1 Sicaran with HB sponsons

I think my first vow is just going to be the PA infantry and the Rhinos. If I have time, I'm going to do a second vow for the TDA infantry, and then have the Storm Eagle and Sicaran in a 3rd vow , again if time (and life!) permits.

I remember that SW1. Great idea to get him on board, I'm sure the Capt. won't have a problem with it.

Sw1. It will be an honour having your brothrr along for the ride.

If he cannot compete by proxy then he can still participate. We will make hiscentry an out of competition entry. It will have not add to a points total but it will still be counted among the rout.

There is always room for one more in the pack :)

So, it is that time again. When the update for the Claws goes mainstream smile.png

It seems quite a few folks are interested in basing.

I had been putting together a painting and a basing guide, with a view to put the painting guide out first, as to me basing is always done last.

However as it is becoming a bit of a hot topic for some I figured that I would swap the order round.

These basing tutorials all take the bases to completion, so please bear in mind that you CANNOT take a model beyond being primed for it to be eligible for the ETL.

Anyway I hope that you find this useful to you.

As always if I have missed anything, or you would like to see something else please let me know.

There are tons of other guides out there like Doctor Fausts clinic or Nextlevelpainting,

Have Fun

Danny:)

Bases are what make the model really stand out. They can help tell a story.

In their own way they are as important as the model itself.

I am basing mine around a dusty desert type scheme in neutral colours so they can match most battlefields, however I really make it look like they are on Prospero!

What story are you trying to tell with your models and where has war taken them?

Below are a series of videos from various modellers. They will display different styles and techniques on how to do awesome bases, from the very simple to the highly technical.

I hope you enjoy and they help stir your imagination.

Thanks

Danny

Don't think it's going to be problem SW1 - we can even make it an out-of-competition entry so he doesn't have the pressure (still worth a badge mind you - like every other out-of-competition entry). We did it once, we can do it again! :)

Well my brother will make a return to the pack once more so sign up "MJ (SW1's Bro)". He's now talking BIG as in claiming half my collection once I've painted it for the ETL!!! Lol ... This is not happening.

I'll let him have my duplicate Ragnar to start off with and see how he goes from there. Just an explanation to those who weren't here in ETL II. My brothers got a few mental health issues (autism, bipolar and a few other associated issues) he really wants to engage with the hobby and I do as much as I can to help him do this.

It's chaos

They'll fall to squabbling soon enough

Like we did for the past 2 ETL's? Not gonna happen :p (as long as no one mentions 'our codex is crap/why put those weapons on that unit (duh to get the points up of course)).

Actually you might be right

Quick question, how does things like psykic mastery levels work? So if I pledge a Rune priest I'm assuming I can't just claim an extra 25pts just by saying he is ML2? Same with things like digital weapons and runic armour and stuff?

Ok, MAstery Levels are a bit of a problem for the ETL. Generally speaking you can only claim points for things you can physically represent on the mini, i.e. you cannot bestow special rules on your mini and claim points for them (even if sometimes you are obliged to by the rules of the game). I'm addressing this in the FAQ section of last year's rules so feel free to take a look there.

Historically people have tried to paint the Lexicanium symbol on the minis. This effort is enough to be rewarded with the extra points. If you can't think of a way to model the Mastery Level then you cannot claim the points. This is similar to Marks of Chaos etc..

I'm using a psy-raven familiar to represent mastery level 2 and I also happen to be using a convered Njal for each of the 2 mastery level 2 models. The rest don't have psy-raven familiars so are just stock level 1. If I can find a source of psy-birds or psy-foxes, or other animals I may upgrade some. However this will royally cock up my carefully planned first vow which currently sits bang on 3,000 points.
