Enigami's Pre-Heresy Log: Sehkmet Conversions

Without further ado, here is the last half of the guide for my grey. If anyone (looking at you Athrawes) wants more specifics than I've listed let me know and I'll try to break it down further.

7. Here I've added the details to my buddy's praetor. The silver is done in a nice thinned coat of GW lead belcher. The brass is done in GW warplock bronze followed by GW runelord brass. I did the face in three wet layers of different browns ending in GW cadian fleshtone. I then washed the lead belcher with a light GW nulin oil wash followed by picking out the highlights with more belcher.

8. Next I sealed the praetor with a flat clear coat and started to mix up some oil paint. I mixed together Winsor & Newton Titanium White and Burnt Umber until I got a nice "muddy" looking color and consistency. A little bit of mineral spirits was added to help mix the paint, but keep it nice and thick.

9. Next I gave the praetor a liberal bath of mineral spirits. Working quickly I carefully drug the muddy mixture into the crack, recess, and around studs. I let this dry for about 20 minutes and then went back and cleaned it up with mineral spirits, q-tips, and a brush. This is the result.

He's now sealed in a gloss coat and awaiting luna wolves transfers. I also made a little progress on the justaerins by blocked in all my colors. This guy still needs washes, weathering (to break up the black), and two oil washes.

Oh and then there's this... Don't ask me why my buddy wanted him in SoH green to go with his Lunas.

Thank you so much for the guide, as soon as the Thousand Sons are finished, I will give this a try. Quick question, what do you use for your flat clear coat and your gloss coat? I've been looking for ones I can use through my airbrush. Do you have to thin them?

So far I've had luck with about every clear coat. I usually play the dangerous game of can clear coat, but only with fresh cans and perfect conditions. It doesn't hurt that I can spray inside without humidity. If I go the airbrush route, I usually use Vallejo products and thin about 50/50. I think it depends on the airbrush. My grex would run with a slightly thicker mixture, but my Iwata needs a thinner mixture. I'd just play around with it and make sure to record how each ratio performs.

This made it to my office today.

When the box came in, my secretary kindly informed me and the rest of the office that "my toys" were here. Worth it.

I'll start posting WIP pictures as soon as I unbox everything tonight. It's an awful lot of stuff as its half an ultramarines army and the rest of my buddy's luna wolves.

This is my first attempt at transfers. I'm fairly pleased with how they have turned out. There is a little bit of silvering on the shoulder pad, but its so unnoticeable that my camera didn't pick it up. I used micro sol and micro set, both of which I highly recommend. Finally, I sprayed him with a flat clear coat to bring the gloss down and seal in the transfers. What do you guys thing?

While I'm getting everything base coated and put together I have a brief update of something I'm working on during my downtime. This guy is done up to the point of weathering.

http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv194/Enigami1990/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsy6mn7gem.jpeg

His base coat is done in 4 different blue mixes with an airbrush. First I primed black followed by a coat of Vallejo model air blue (004). Then I sprayed three more coats of various vma blue (004) and vma light blue (101) mixes. I started with a 75:25 mix all over, then a 50/50 from overhead and at a 45 degree angle, and finally finished with a overhead highlight of 25:75. I'll try to post some better pictures of the gradient I achieved with this.

So things have been happening.

Thanks buddy! That's exactly what I was going for. I've always disliked really bright Ultras, but wanted to give them a shot. You can't see it because my lighting is terrible, but the same gradient on the pod is present on all the Ultras. I'll have to throw together a light box at some point.

Thanks, Ishagu! I was really trying to go for something different. I feel like the traditional scheme doesn't lend itself to my style of painting very well. Unintentionally, my models end up with a "simple realism" vibe. I thought I could achieve this a little better with an non-traditional scheme. I'm very excited for your and everyone else's thoughts on the scheme once I get more of the models to the detail stage, especially the kitbashed Locutorus.

So I've been making tiny steps on my Ultras. Here is a pre-Knights Errant Tylos Rubio. I've also been struggling with a dreadnaught drop pod. I found the doors would break off because there was too much room for the doors to move and the resin holding the doors in was too thin. I found a handy way to remedy this. If anyone would like a tutorial let me know. Without further ado, here is Rubio:

He still needs a little weathering and some matte varnish. He's still shiny from the decals.

He everyone,

I've made a bit of progress since last I've posted. First up is the final version of my first two Thousand Sons. I have also completed my tartaros termies, but have not had a chance to get pictures.

Next up is one of two vindicators I finished for my death guard.

I've also been working on a few other projects. Here is a Horus I completed for a buddy. (Sadly Horus is missing his groin flaps)

Finally a Sister.

Any comments or criticisms are welcome. I always want to learn how I can improve my painting.

I've got pictures of the Thousand Sons termies I finished the other day. I also have a few shots of a few other models.

Howdy everyone,

It's been awhile since I've posted on here. However, I've been making great progress on a lot of projects. Sadly the most time consuming has no place here, but now that its completed. I can focus on some Heresy goodness.

Whats to come. In the painting queue I have around 2000 points of death guard and two 2500 point mechanicum lists (one ordo reductor and one cybernetica). I'll start off today by posting the first part of the Ordo Reductor list. Enter my buddy's Porphyrion. He wanted something quick that would look decent on the table top. I'm not entirely happy with it, but my buddy didn't want me to spend any more time on it.

http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv194/Enigami1990/IMG_2090_zpskbqjj4ya.jpg

I'm tempted to tell my buddy that he can't have him back as the Porphyrion needs to stay and defend my spice rack, but oh well. Let me know what I can do better next time!

Inferno has me all excited to get a little more work done on my Thousand Sons, so I've started converting up some tartaros Sehkmet.

Here they are:

http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv194/Enigami1990/IMG_2123_zpsyokewvfq.jpg

I've kitbashed some of the 40k scarab occult with some plastic tartaros as I very much dislike all of the flame style trim on the 40k versions.

I'm currently thinking about removing the heads and replacing them with the 30k Thousand Sons upgrade kit heads. What do you all think?

On another note, here is a little progress on the the last 2.5k of my 10k point death guard army.
