Pyroclast91
I finished a little bit of fluff In my freetime at work Sgt Dominic Seren is a Terran born legionaire who served with distinction throughout the great crusade. Having spent a decade seconded to the Vylka Fenryka Seren proved himself an almost peerless hunter even amongst the wolves. Leading Kill Teams into the heart of hundreds of enemy occupied warzones to eliminate high value targets Seren acquired a reputation as a cold and ruthless albeit extremely efficient killer. However after returning to his legion his aggressive nature and apparent lack of empathy led to many disagreements between Seren and his commanders. One such disagreement led too fight between Seren and his then Captain who Seren almost killed. Afterwards Dominic Seren was permanently transferred to the Ash Vipers. On Istvaan V Sgt Seren was able to not only survive but thanks to his particular skills was able to strike back at the traitors. Seren would conceal himself often using the corpses of the fallen on more than one occasion piling the dead to build macabre hunting blinds that also served as barricades from which he ambushed the traitors attempting to hunt survivors. After his quarry was dead he would carefully remove there armour and cut out his enemy's progenoid glands something he'd seen the Emperors Children doing to his fallen brothers and a favor he decided to return in kind. However unlike the wayward sons of Fulgrim Seren would replace the progenoid glands with primed bolter rounds rigged to krak grenades, then carefully replace the fallen legionaires armour and leave them. This tactic led to the death of several and severe injury of many traitor apothecaries. Seren managed to rescue dozens of legionaires from all three loyal legions and helped most of them escape however refusing to leave Istvaan with any of the refugees for almost a year every time he was asked his answer was the same "My hunt isn't over". By the time Seren finally decided to leave Istvaan V himself he had earned an impressive reputation amongst the traitor forces hunting him who referred to him only as the "Ghost". "Carver" Sgt Serens Right hand his real name is Tor'gal Pulakanos but is known as Carver because of his obsession with edged weapons. When Squad Seren is tasked with the retrieval of information before eliminating a target it typically falls to Carver to extract it from the less than cooperative marks. "Kill-Shot" or Käl Tobbe to become a legion seeker you have to have marksmanship skills beyond even those of the other superhuman legionaires. But Tobbe was a class apart from even them the every legionaire who ever served with him would swear he'd never missed a target no matter the distance no matter the conditions when Käl pulled the trigger bolt would find a body. This skill and reputation as a marksmen earned Käl the nickname Kill-Shot. Augustus b'Raass
Aw man, I couldn't stop myself and built another biker last night (the comms specialist of the squad), and this night I did it again! That means my monthly vow's three-man squad of bikers has grown into a full five-man squad. Doh! @ Dosjetka: Dude, I like the Fulmentaris - but can I ask something? If you're doing a shattered legions band, why not do them as Tyrant Siege? They're cheaper (50 instead of 85) and better (because the always have wrecker and Fulmentaris only have tank hunter when they're with at least three(?))... @ Pyroclast: The left guy has a MkIII Breacher helmet. :tu: I mean the guy on the right... Jonny Roxtar
I tried out 2 test basecoats on the Death watch today. Both were diferent shades of a mix of Vallejo black and London grey. Aretemis here is the darker shade, while the trooper was a much lighter grey. Curiosity got the better of me though and i went with the light shade first. I used drakenhof night shade then 2 coats of nuln oil to get the black i liked, then a quick light dry brush with a light grey id mixed up to match tamiyas grey primer. The trooper is far from finished but i kinda like the black ive got so far. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/Deusmex/death%20watch/dw%20test.jpg so from the light grey to black in 3 washes is the way i will be doing it http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/Deusmex/death%20watch/dw%20test2.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325762-a-tale-of-20-hobbyists-2016/page/8/#findComment-4520500 Share on other sites
Augustus b'Raass
Alright, gents (there's no girls in here! whaaaaaat) I've started painting my bikers and the lord. Here's some proof - the yellow is now finished. All I have to do is fill in the details and they're done. ;) http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/temporary_zpssqjdynk4.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325762-a-tale-of-20-hobbyists-2016/page/8/#findComment-4520701 Share on other sites
codyrstuart
Thanks to Father Nurgle visiting my whole household today, I was able to stay home and get the bulk of Bran finished. http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah7/codyrstuart/20161004_141129_zps9oqpwoja.jpg Only have the arms and alternate head left. Should be finished with him this week. Then on to the drop pod. Dosjetka
deusmex: That is a fine shade of grey/black you've got there. Spot on. :tu: codyrstuart: I'll admit that I wasn't too convinced by your Bran when you posted the first picture yesterday but he's looking pretty damn good now. The only thing I'd suggest is go over the gunmetal parts (again?) with a black wash and then go over the gold parts with a purple wash. As is, the gunmetal looks very flat and shiny while the gold is borderline garish. codyrstuart
I can see it now. I'll give the metal another wash. As for the gold, I'll have to get some purple. Maybe I'll be able to get some during lunch tomorrow. Augustus, figured you would also be interested in the red armor bits on the base. "Khorne cares not..." and all that jazz Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325762-a-tale-of-20-hobbyists-2016/page/8/#findComment-4520776 Share on other sites

Dosjetka
If you don't have purple, you can always mix red and blue or just use brown. Won't look as good but it can work. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325762-a-tale-of-20-hobbyists-2016/page/8/#findComment-4520785 Share on other sites

Obscura
Great work everyone! Looking forward to everyone's progression. Weather is still iffy, so I was just able to work on a few more details, nothing exceedingly exciting, just wanted to document that I'm actually working on this. I plan on building up the base with sand and other debris, the cubed pieces of left over sprue help as a filler for the finer details. Pyroclast91
Ahhhhh man Rangaman why you gotta go and post that glorious monster and make my wallet hurry this way looking awesome brother the first thing I thought of when I saw the base was "ooooh perfect place for a crawling corpse" have you thought about maybe putting the destroyed knights pilot on there?I didn't really get a ton of painting done yesterday because I decided I needed to sculpt more scales and pin down an idea for the Vipers' heraldry. I did get ancient Iram the Leviathan base coated and washed. I could really use some input on the color it was a bit of an experiment that so far I'm pretty happy with but still a little unsure.the end result won't be near that shiny I just wanted to see what everyone thinks before I continue with highlights, freehanding, and weathering. oooh and then paint everything else that isn't armour me being my indecisive self also decided I didn't like serens torso and legs I just couldn't get past the legs not being the rite mark.I think I'll probably redo the scales on Seren's shoulder I just can't seem to get them rite on that pad for some reason and I can't figure it out. Aside from that I think I really prefer this body and legs to the old build. I think I'm gonna have to get another devastator box I've gotten a LOT of mileage out of it that's for sure. Everything's coming along really nicely everyone I really like how much variety we have in here. Soldier of Dorn
Sorry if I've been a bit absent, everyone, school's been a bit on my ass the past couple days and I haven't been able to devote as much time as I would like to this. Haven't had time to really work on my vow, but everyone else's look to be coming along beautifully. I'll try to keep up with everyone's progress a bit better from here on out. In any regard, I've updated everything to this point! Good right? SW1
Well last night ended up being a bit of a late session and I get the Inquisitor finished ... http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/193503-image/ http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/193504-image/ I also ended up playing around with all the =][= icons I ordered from a bits site. Mixed up the arms in the Admec kits to get an Inquisiton servitor with plasma cannon (there's 2 of the small =][= icons squeezed on the model chest/side of gun). Hopefully it's subtle enough to not look out of place ... http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/193506-image/ http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/193505-image/ I think 3 of these will be making their way into a future vow with a more shooty =][= unit. With a bit of a trim a shield from one of those AoS zombie marines (got no idea what they're called) and a big =][= icon combines quite well ... http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/193508-image/ The storm shields that come in the DW kit I think look better on TDA models so decided to have a go at a PA option. Hopefully I can get all 6 shaved down without too much hastle. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325762-a-tale-of-20-hobbyists-2016/page/8/#findComment-4523473 Share on other sites
