Night Lords and Emperor's Children allies?

Hey guys and gals!

Pondering on the idea of making a fluffy army based around the early days of Fulgrim and Curzes relationship, when The Phoenician was mentoring The Night Haunter.

Was hoping those with more tactical knowledge of the two respective armies could shine some light on what would work in a list comprised of the two Legions?

If it'd perhaps be more beneficial to have the main force as NL with EC allies, or vice versa? And which units would work well and compliment one another the best?

Thanks in advance for any help and advice! :)

If you have NL as the main force you can't have legion allies with terror assault.

Both armies are assault oriented in the main as well (except kakaphoni but they've their own rite I don't know much about) but could be used to 1-2 an opponent, The EC having the benefit of speed and the NL having outnumbering bonuses.

Not one I'd put together myself but it'll probably look cool with your fluff

Unfortunately your hopes are dashed before they begin, because the current ally chart is set firmly in the Heresy, where Kurze hates Fulgrim's guts and the feeling is mutual. The two armies are By the Warmaster's Command on the ally chart, so not only are your allies not scoring, but if the two Legions get within 6" of each other, on a roll of 1 they waste their turn giving each other the stink eye and throwing shade (no pun intended... or was it?).

As far as which Legion to take as primary, Night Lords lend themselves very well to being an allied detachment with Terror Assault, because you minimize its drawbacks (can only get 1 HS choice anyway, and can take just 2 terror squads rather than 3).  Unfortunately, there are very few Legions that like the Night Lords (understandably).

I don't think this has ever been explored in any of the written material, but for some reason Kurze thinks Mortarion is his bestie, while Mortarion merely thinks Kurze is a decent bro. Other folks who have a decent opinion of the Night Lords are the Iron Hands, World Eaters, Sons of Horus, Salamanders (golly gee!), and the Mechanicum.

I don't understand why Salamanders are fellow warriors with the Night Lords, they don't seem like they would get along at all. Plus Kurze did some pretty harsh things to Vulkan after he was captured on Istvaan..

As far as allies for the NL goes I think Sons of Horus and Death Guard are really the only two good choices. DG provide good fire support for the more assault oriented NL, and SoH and NL both get outnumber bonuses in assaults so you can use that to your advantage.

As far as EC go shattered legions really is your only choice.

Something about seeing the best in ppl or something such nonsense. Salamanders are at worst distrusted I believe.

But seriously Terror Assault is a great allied detachment 2 drop pods without Tac Tax, deep striking terminators, and forcing improved night fight. Although you would lose Night Vision on the NL.

Except Night Lords without night vision (allied detachment) and with allies who also don't have night vision.

I'm talking about the automatic nightfight you can enforce with terror assault, it's optional and you can just dice for it (likely your opponent doesn't want it either).

Search lights exist on a lot of staple units and the +1 I and Run is really quite nice; mark them with rhinos and dreadnoughts and such and then you're good to go. Honestly poor use of searchlights gives such a good advantage to a Night Lord player that it isn't even funny, I have the feeling most people forget they exist.

Also it isn't automatic Night Fight, maybe you're confusing it with Curze?

This is something I want to tell my opponents all the time, but never do. I'm too afraid of losing my night fight stealth benefits!
