Thanks for all the comments folks. I've done a little more work to him, started adding gs today. Still a lot to do obviously. I also hollowed out the Oblits shoulder pads so I can add some normal Terminator arms I completely forgot to get pics of those though so you'll have to use your imagination. I plan to add a few more details to his back as well.

I dremmelled out the hood a bit to add to the creepy vibe although I'm now thinking I may add some chain mail in there like the old WHFB Nurgle Lord on Steed. I'll mess about with it a bit more. I just think it needs *something*

Typhus is coming along great! I think chainmail would look cool in the hood, maybe some horns or antlers if you think it's not quite enough as is. Also not quite sure if this would work with what you had in mind, but you could add some sort of gaping jaw at the back of the hood. So from cursory glance it would just look faceless on the outside but if you looked closer you could see the gaping jaw. Definitely looking forward to seeing more work on this model!

Typhus looks awesome, though I must agree that he needs something inside the hood. I would personally add a helmet as the one that the original model has, with the horn coming from beneath the hood, to make him more easily recognisable.

Thanks for the kind comments folks, I'll need to try a few things with the hood, like I say I think I'll try something along these lines

So, Death Guard are the flavour of the month and I too have jumped on this rather rotten bandwagon. Always been a fan of the DG aesthetic but never really gotten around to a force of them.

This little haul arrived today, I also have two copies of the Dark Vengeance DG, two start collecting Nurgle Daemons and I’m waiting on a box of Blightlords coming. Progress on these guys will be slow as I’m mainly focusing on my World Eaters for the next few weeks to prepare for a couple of local tournaments but these will be the distraction when painting red becomes a bit of a chore.

I did the almost mandatory repose of Typhus today, this borrows heavily from Guitarasmus technique.

And here he is next to the Lord of Contagion from the Dark Imperium box. Just to show how massive Typhus is.

Speaking of scale I’ve been a little worried since DI came out about the size of the Plague marines overshadowing my Berserkers etc. I’m pleasantly surprised that the newer way I’ve been building my Zerkers means this isn’t really an issue.

The DG is a little bulkier but that’s to be expected.

I also threw the easy build PM’s together, not a lot done to these except turning the head of a Bolter guy and replacing one the Champions heads with one I had lying on my desk. It is by no means my final choice, might still switch it up.

While I have your attention, what’s people’s thoughts on using this guy as a Great Unclean one? I’ll add some chains to one or both of the wrists to show the flail, I don’t think I’ll add a sword to him but those horns look like they could do some damage.

I eventually plan to add a Daemon Prince to this army and possibly one or two of the new characters. Although I’ll need to do some customisation as I’m really not a fan of a lot of the heads GW are giving us just now. These will hopefully be painted up in the colours of the Mouldering Claw, I really like the dark green.

EDIT

I will continue to work on my custom built once I find him ( I swear he was sitting on my shelves and now he’s MiA!) Typhus although I’m now thinking he may just become a Sorceror do something similar.

Certainly a great start to the new DG stuff, will eagerly be watching what you do with them :)

The repose on Typhus looks great! Using that model for the great unclean one is a good idea, just need to 40k it a bit more. How about cutting off the plague casters massive bell on the DI set and adding it to the model? always thought it looked to big for the standard model its on tbh

Also, wil;l you be finishing your old Typhus model and re using him as a champ or something similar?

Thanks buddy, I won’t be making the greater daemon look too 40k as I’ll use it in a Daemon army as well which I also use in AoS from time to time. I do however plan on adding a lot of green toxic filth to the bases each models base will have at least a small puddle to theme the army. I’ll add more on larger models/characters etc so his base will be suitably grotty looking. Like I say I think I’ll add some chains to the big guy and have a look at what I can do too fill the gap at the top. I will probably add a few nurgkings around him but not quite the display team that’s riding piggy back at the moment.

Yeah like I say I’ll still use that Typhus build if/when I can find it. I must have packed him into a box for some reason.

Mechanist, I’d seen that image, I’m sure it was a Glottkin that someone had converted. I really like the Glottkin model but the Maggoth is Close in size to the likes of the Bloodthirster so I’m haopy enough with the size. I’ll be building a DP for these guys as well. Have a couple of ideas for it but so many other projects taking my time just now. :tu:

First post of 2018, had my first game of the new year yesterday as well and it was also my first game using the Death Guard, was a really fun game and I actually had a lot of models left at the end of the game. Usually my deadpile is bigger than what I have left on the table :D I won rather convincingly on Victory points mainly due to a tactical error by my opponent leaving his Warlord a BA Librarian Dread behind a DC Dread but exposed on his left flank. I dropped in my Combi plasma Terminators and a Lord of Contagion next to it, due to his positioning the warlord was closest target so had a few wounds ripped off by overcharged plasma ( I lost a Termi in the process but it was totally worth it) before I rolled a 12” charge for my LoC and 11” for the Terminators. The Lord of Contagion needed no help in ripping the Dread apart though, his turn and the DC Dread charged into the fray and pretty much wiped out the rest of my Termi squad before the Lord of Contagion blew him up as well. :D Unfortunately the explosion claimed my Lords last wound as well. Still, totally worth it. ;) Epecially since my WE have suffered at the hands of the that Librarian Dread many times.

I didn’t get any pics of the game and don’t actually have many pics of the army to be honest, it’s mostly just been straight builds from the box with not much in the way of conversions.

I did start painting a test model for the Mouldering Claw Vectorium

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n235/Stovie_2006/Black%20Legion/A49A62D3-EECB-4322-B428-CE3EE69752AE.jpg

But I’m not too happy with it. I think I need to do something with his face as it all blends in at the moment. I plan to maybe add bone coloured helmets in future and possibly bone inserts on the shoulder pads. Almost like an inverted Heresy scheme.

Here’s my initial efforts

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n235/Stovie_2006/Black%20Legion/ACEDDF37-5DB3-4131-AE77-9EEDA06CD26A.jpg

I really like the darker armour but like I say his face needs to be more a focal point.

Apologies for the fairly mediocre update but I just wanted to show that I am back painting after a lengthy hiatus and that I’ll be updating more ASAP. :tu:

I like it, the armour colour seems a very good match for the example above and the nurgles rot dripping from the muzzle of the bolter is a nice touch :tu:. Maybe adding a line of yellow to the centre of each eye lens would help bring them out a little more. As for the bone helmets and shoulder inserts, I would really like to see that too, it sounds like a great idea. Good to see you posting again :D

Knowing the excellence of your World Eaters kitbashes, I am pretty excited by the prospect of seeing what you can do with the Death Guard. I would also advise you to finish that counts as Typhus conversion, in spite of having the official model now, because that kitbash was just inspired!

As for the painted test model, while it definitely is a decent match for the artwork, I will admit that it's a bit too dark and indistinct for my taste: I'd worry about an entire army painted in that colour scheme to blend together into one indistinct heap -- maybe there's something you could do to push the contrast a bit?

Really looking forward to this project, buddy! :)

I think the problem you might be having with the scheme is that instead of pure black for the armour you've gove for a very dark green, which blends a bit with them trim, and I think that a completely black, maybe highlighted in bluish white tones, would look better. Also painting the cables in the neck copper-like as in the picture might help, but I don't think you should introduce bone tones at all, it is actually a pretty awesome scheme, hadn't stopped to look at it in the Codex.

Thanks for the comments guys, I’ve worked on him a bit more tonight.

Nemac, I think I’m going to stick to this colour scheme for this squad as I have it at a stage I’m fairly happy with now. Although I may use the bone spot colour on another squad :tu:

Kraut, thank you. Although I have to apologise in advance as o don’t actually have that many conversions planned for this force. I’ve done a few head swaps etc with the Plague Marines as I have two sets of Dark Imperium but for the most part I’m happy with the current models. I know, it doesn’t sound like me at all does it!? Haha. As for that Typhus I will finish him as soon as I find him. He has gone walkabouts but he’s in my room....somewhere...

another small kitbash now I think of it is this guy. From my spare Lord of Contagion.

TheTraitor thanks for the tips bud. The colour scheme is actually a very dark green it’s a little hard to see on that picture from my Codex. I’ve switched the green of the trim out and I’ve changed the pipes like you suggested and I’m a lot happier with how it looks now. He still needs rust and verdigris etc added but here’s how he looks now.

This is probably the closest to real life as I could get. I lightened the faceplate up a bit and switched out the cabling as Traitor suggested.

And a pic with a Berserker because why not? :D
