+++ Heros. There are none that would call us that now. Not that they ever did. No.. We do not garner the renown that our brothers do. There are none among us who's names stand besides those of Loken, Khârn, Sigismund. We are a thankless lot, that we know as truth, We are tempered, we are strengthened, and we are ready for what comes next. But, this doesn't make us heros, im not sure that anyone can be called that any longer. ~~ Talleran Valk: Acting warsmith, 73rd Grand Battalion +++

Welcome to my new project log. It's been a long time coming now. I've been meaning to start a true heresy force for quite some time now, but for one reason or another it's been put off, or simply stagnated up untill the recent release of the BoP box set, and the plastic Mk3 marines. It took me some time to figure out what legion deserved my attention, and while i am still, technically.. stuck between decideing between two, i've decided that at the very least to work up on a test squad of my first option, The Iron Warriors. The only things that i have left to do with them are to work on the lenses and if i get them, transfer decals.

I did have alittle bit of difficulty as i worked on them, no matter how i attempted it, i simply seemed unable to get hazard markings across the shoulders in a way that i was happy with, so i ended up instead picking out other panels across their armor to decorate. It seems that the legs i picked up ended up looking better then the forearms on other figures.. i may need to work out a new method to get more consistant results with future batches. In either case, please let me know what you guys think.

Oh please share that paint scheme love the overall look!!!

Never, I shall lock that secret away within the heart of a fortress so it shall never be told.. That its really quite simple to do. It's started with a solid basecoat of Leadbelcher, making sure it was nice and smooth, before giving it a wash of Nuln Oil. With the wash i did go heavy, and i slopped it on, but i made sure it didn't end up pooling. Once that dried up the next step was to stipple over the surface with an old pot of chainmail that i have. With that on, i started the gold, A base of gehena gold, followed by again, an old paint pot of shining gold. With that dried i went back over it again with another layer of Nuln Oil, again going by the same method to apply it that i did with my initial wash.

I may experement with it alittle, im not sure if the silver itself needs alittle more visual interest, or if its good as it is.

Looking good, I like the bases as well.

Glad you like them! They were surprisingly simple to produce.

So just a small update for you guys. I've gotten the next ten marines built and waiting for primer to dry up on them before i get to painting. These ones will finish up the first 20 man tac squad that im planning on building. After they are built i might end up slowing done some while i wait on my order of resin to come in. Im hoping that it doesn't take too long for it to show up, but i have had the.. misspleasure of the last few orders taking close to two months to show up on my doorstep. That, would put me at early January, which im really hoping to avoid. In the mean time, i'll get some WIP pictures loaded up once i have some for you guys.

There will be hazard stripes on them, the picture above doesnt show it too well, but they do have some scattered on them. More then likely, i will not do the shoulder pads with the stripes though. I am planning on adding vehicles. As it sits, i have afew plastic Rhinos, and im waiting on two legion Medusa and a Mastadon.

Dude!....

... seriously, dude!....

As someone who's been putting together a plethora of IW models, to see such a simple paint scheme bring awesome results is inspiring. I was about to comment on the lack of hazard stripes until I saw the lower leg of the Sergeant and the guy behind him- can we get a better shot of that?

You absolutely can get some close up shots. I pulled three members of the squad out to show the various locations of the hazard markings. As you'll see, I still have to finish up the eyes.. though I can't decide on what color to go for, Blue, or Red.

The hazard stripes are good - all of the GW sample ones I've seen done supporting the BoP release the yellow has been far too prominent and clean, and looks out of place. Those look good and muted, and fit in rather well with the overall scheme, so kudos. Nice crisp lines too - I assume you used masking tape maybe? If they're freehand I may have to take back everything nice I've said and put you at the top of my enemies list...

I've always been of that same impression. What GW shows us for the hazard stripes on their figures is as you said, out of place. It's too bright, too clean, and too jarring. It's too late, you've already been documented as saying nice things. There was no masking involved with the hazard stripes. It's purely freehand.

So work has progressed smoothly, if abit slowly. A week ago i injured my back at work, so it's been alittle difficult to sit myself upright for any length of time to work on much of anything. I currently have the next ten bolter marines at an almost finalized armor stage. The Silver and Gold trim has had it's final highlights, all im needing to do now is apply a wash. After that, its blocking in the black areas, and working on detail and hazard markings.

...im waiting on two legion Medusa and a Mastadon.

Just saw this. Let me thank you for the new coat of coffee on my hobby desk. msn-wink.gif

Excited to see it, especially in your colors.

Hearing this actually means quite a bit. You are always your own toughest critic, right?

I've just about finished the second batch of ten now. All i have left with them is to get their bases made, highlight the bolters, and then, as with the first group. The eyes. I'm thinking that after this group, i may go ahead and start work on a Rhino i have sitting around, see how well my scheme actually translates over onto a vehicle, and what might need to be tweaked to get it working alittle more smoothly.

I do want to ask this, Does anyone else procrastinate when it comes to buying stuff for your projects that aren't miniatures themselves? I need to go a head and pick up some transfer sheets, brass etch, and the Dice. I have the money set aside specificlly for it.. but i just.. dont. I dont know why, i have no rational explanation as to why i seem to be putting it off either.

Those are some good-looking marines.

I ran into the same issue, and figured that the money to buy the transfers would be better spent on actual minis. It took me to model #40 with no insignia, to realize that I had no intention of ripping off 40 (what were at the time) resin shoulder pads to replace them with the legion ones. So I ended up with the transfers as part of my next order. I'd say just bite the bullet, especially before the exchange rate recovers any more. tongue.png

The simple scheme is great...i wonder do you plan on adding any IW upgrade bits?

I think I see one of the legion heads on the center model, top photo above.
