+++ Heros. There are none that would call us that now. Not that they ever did. No.. We do not garner the renown that our brothers do. There are none among us who's names stand besides those of Loken, Khârn, Sigismund. We are a thankless lot, that we know as truth, We are tempered, we are strengthened, and we are ready for what comes next. But, this doesn't make us heros, im not sure that anyone can be called that any longer. ~~ Talleran Valk: Acting warsmith, 73rd Grand Battalion +++

Welcome to my new project log. It's been a long time coming now. I've been meaning to start a true heresy force for quite some time now, but for one reason or another it's been put off, or simply stagnated up untill the recent release of the BoP box set, and the plastic Mk3 marines. It took me some time to figure out what legion deserved my attention, and while i am still, technically.. stuck between decideing between two, i've decided that at the very least to work up on a test squad of my first option, The Iron Warriors. The only things that i have left to do with them are to work on the lenses and if i get them, transfer decals.

I did have alittle bit of difficulty as i worked on them, no matter how i attempted it, i simply seemed unable to get hazard markings across the shoulders in a way that i was happy with, so i ended up instead picking out other panels across their armor to decorate. It seems that the legs i picked up ended up looking better then the forearms on other figures.. i may need to work out a new method to get more consistant results with future batches. In either case, please let me know what you guys think.

I love em! The bases really work well with the color scheme. That being said, the street markings almost replace the visual interest of hazard stripes on the armor itself. The way you have the bases, I think I actually think it looks best that there are no stripes on the armor too.

Very true to IW imagery. And I'm glad to see someone starting a WIP with that Burning of Propero box. I'm so tempted myself, and still can't pick a legion, but have a chapter still in need of paint. Guess I'll have to live vicariously through you.

I'm glad that you guys like them. I didn't forego doing the hazard markings all together, if you take a look at the pointing marine, and the one to his left, you can see it on their leg plates, it's simply muted and toned down. Over all i like the effect that it gives off, and i think that I'll continue with it in that way on the marines, vehicles may be a more pronounced marking scheme.

Speaking of vehicles, i should have a good batch of them once my order comes in. Two Legion Medusa, some quad mortars, a Dereado, and, what im really looking forward to getting my hands on, a Mastadon. Now i just have to figure out how to translate this look across onto the large slab plates of a vehicle. I've always found it alittle difficult to get a good visual interest with silver vehicles, compared to the infantry counterparts. I painted up a Vindicator for my 40k Iron warriors, and while the results there work, im not sure if it would translate too well over to these less.. chaotic versions.

The bases were actually quite simple to pull off, i honestly surprised even myself with the final outcome with them, for sure they will be how the full force is going to be based. I think it took a total of a half hour to get all ten done up.

These look beautiful, I love the gold on the trims, how did you paint those?

The hazard stripes look sharp as well, really good job on those.

The gold was rather simple. It was a base coat of Gehena gold, layered up with the old Shining gold, and washed with Nuln Oil

So just a small update for you guys. I've gotten the next ten marines built and waiting for primer to dry up on them before i get to painting. These ones will finish up the first 20 man tac squad that im planning on building. After they are built i might end up slowing done some while i wait on my order of resin to come in. Im hoping that it doesn't take too long for it to show up, but i have had the.. misspleasure of the last few orders taking close to two months to show up on my doorstep. That, would put me at early January, which im really hoping to avoid. In the mean time, i'll get some WIP pictures loaded up once i have some for you guys.

So work has progressed smoothly, if abit slowly. A week ago i injured my back at work, so it's been alittle difficult to sit myself upright for any length of time to work on much of anything. I currently have the next ten bolter marines at an almost finalized armor stage. The Silver and Gold trim has had it's final highlights, all im needing to do now is apply a wash. After that, its blocking in the black areas, and working on detail and hazard markings.

I've just about finished the second batch of ten now. All i have left with them is to get their bases made, highlight the bolters, and then, as with the first group. The eyes. I'm thinking that after this group, i may go ahead and start work on a Rhino i have sitting around, see how well my scheme actually translates over onto a vehicle, and what might need to be tweaked to get it working alittle more smoothly.

I do want to ask this, Does anyone else procrastinate when it comes to buying stuff for your projects that aren't miniatures themselves? I need to go a head and pick up some transfer sheets, brass etch, and the Dice. I have the money set aside specificlly for it.. but i just.. dont. I dont know why, i have no rational explanation as to why i seem to be putting it off either.

Alright, so i've gotten the second batch of ten finished up. They've been based, weapons highlighted, and i've even gone ahead and painted in the eye lenses using the new thousand sons blues. Pictures will come in the next day or two, once my camera has charged up so i can use it again.. This brings it up to a total of Tactical Marines now.  I currently have a rhino sitting primed waiting for the airbrush to be brought out to get a base coat layed on easily.

After that, im doing alittle debating, and thought i'd pose the question up here. I have 20 Mk4 marines sitting in box right now, Shall i add them into this force, or use them for a different project?

Fantastic work! I love the muted hazard stripes. Would you mind sharing how you achieved them?

It's quite simple really. The area is marked out first with Averland Sunset, Abadon black is used to block in the stripes. After that Leadbelcher is stippled over the area, followed by a controlled wash of Nuln Oil. And Finished.

+++ I suspect we found out about this great betrayal the same way many of our brothers did. At the end of a bolt gun. For us, it were the cowards of the Eigth that came to test our allegiance. They payed for it in blood and flesh, For we are our Father's sons, every last one of us. Let none who seek to test our resolve forget this very important fact. ~~ Talleran Valk: Acting warsmith, 73rd Grand Battalion +++

I've started work on my first Rhino, and while it's only seen it's basecoat so far, i have to say, i already like how it looks.  As this is going to be my test to see how my scheme fairs across vehicles, and other such beasts, i'm going to take alittle bit of time to work it out. So far, so good. This is my first play with GW's air range Leadbealcher, and im quite pleased with these early results. Next up comes the initial wash, which i have the feeling i'll need to pay alittle extra attention to when it comes to the flat slabs that make up the sides of the tank. I'll post an update once that step has been compleated.

+++ Reinforcements inbound Warsmith. Forge output operating at Seventy-Four Percent.+++

Finally my awaited shipment of new bits and peices have arrived to keep working on personalizing my legion. Thats the good news, I can finally get back to work! Now the bad.. Some how when i thought i was ordering my Mastadon to bolster my forces.. i didnt. A slip up somewhere, and instead what i find waiting for me in the box was a Warlord Titan's Arioch Power Claw. And yet.. i have no Titan for it to be used by. Let this be a lession for anyone wise enough to listen.. don't prescription medicine and forgeworld.

Well you could try giving it to your HQ but it might be a bit overkill. I too have been making some Iron Warriors out of the Mk3 marines so it is nice to see more here. Very nice colour scheme and the bases really are change from the usual rubble.

+++ The loss of the tyrant siege master was a minor set back to our plans. While his recent performance on the field has been deminished compared to counterparts from other grand companies, there was still use for him. According to the warsmith, there still /IS/ use for that husk. A Deredeo chassis has been prepared for its new occupant. The choice of armaments, in particular the Hellfire Cannonade has been chosen as a direct reminder of the siege masters failures. His mortal wound having been derived by plasma fire. +++

Some time has passed, and i've been busy in the forge. The Dereado has been fully built, im concidering some brass etch to give it some extra character before it gets its coat of primer. One of a set of twin bodyguards for the warsmith has been started on, and It's coming along quite nicely i think, save for a somewhat strange looking arm.. that should hopefully clear itself out once painted. And lastly, with the upgrade sets i got in, the first half of my second 20 man tac squad has seen its construction stages, and await their time with primer. Where the leader of the first group sports the same armement as his squad to show he is still their brother, this squad's leader has a more.. heavy handed approach.

So it's been around a month since my last update, and i apologize for that. Things have been rather hectic for me lately, and for the most part by the time im able to get home from a day of maintaining aircraft, any desire or drive to do much of anything has up and vanished. I have, however muddled though alittle bit durring that time. Finished off 21-30 of the tactical marines, gotten a good foundation down on the deredaeo, and built up afew other goodies. Unfortunately for the next week or so i'll be out of state and in classes for work, so dont expect any quick updates.
