Skidman: Thanks man!
Brother Pheidias: Thanks! Me neither. :smile.:
Vairocanum: Cheers!

My friend Mekol kindly pointed how the flamer barrels could be longer and I agreed so I worked on it a bit. Now it looks much closer to the source artwork. I don't think I'll bother with the gas masks or fuel tanks though as I like this simpler approach. She also has a sister now.
Somebody will probably ask so the build is Delague legs, arms and back of torso, SoS pauldrons, helmet and weapon arm.

Charlo: It's Vallejo Model Color fluorescent orange. They also come in yellow, green blue and magenta.

Is it just fluorescent orange? I know sometimes you need to paint those fluorescent paints over another colour. Because I'm curious and kind of want to steal that idea for my eventual HH Dark Angels

Charlo: Glad to help. :smile.:
Hungry Nostraman Lizard: I think I'm gonna go for the 'official' GW scheme from their painting videos. For the flamers in particular I'm thinking dark leather, perhaps red tones.
Gederas: Yes. I used it on top of a white undercoat as it has a pretty bad coverage on it's own, much like using any other bright paint.

Okay I'll stop bothering you with these quick and dirty updates for today. I'm up to four now with the flamer sisters. I'm unsure about the leader for the squad. I'd like to do something akin to the named character of the artwork, even if it wouldn't be viable ruleswise with the hand flamer and the power fist.

Thanks for looking.

The sisters conversions are amazing, Markus_! I say go for the sergeant, because basically if you have a delaque gang then basically you already have the right head for it (just need to add a couple of details, something that should be no issue considering your skills :D).

Elzender: Thank you! I was eyeballing that one head already.
Hungry Nostraman Lizard: Aye it's such a great art book! Thanks!

Well this was a fun little weekend build, the Witchseekers are now up to a minimum playable size. The squad leader especially was fun to do as it deviates a bit more from the standard look. For the power fist I used Kor Phaeron's arm without the claws, the power pack is from Canoness Veridya. I really like the human arm showing inside the power fist.
I'm very happy how they turned out.

C&C most welcome, cheers! :smile.:

Gederas: Thank you! It's a beautiful kit really, so much potential.
Hungry Nostraman Lizard: Cheers!
Bjorn Firewalker: Thanks, these will serve as Sisters of Silence allies for games of Horus Heresy.

I made some bits calculations and it seems I still have enough stuff to bolster my Death Guard tactical squads to include both a nuncio vox and a vexilla, a five man squad of tactical support marines armed with melta guns and two alternative sergeants with Manreaper scythes.
In other news I've made an instagram account for sporadic miniatures posting, you can find it here: https://www.instagram.com/legioxivguy/

Anyway here's the start of the first sergeant and the packs for the squad specialists.

hushrong: Thank you! Turn those bad ideas into great models.
Pearson73: Cheers! Yeah, studs make the look.
Hungry Nostraman Lizard: Thanks! I try and go for natural, interesting poses.
Brother Pheidias: You are too kind. :smile.:

Some time, no post! Quite a lot has been done since last update.

In the modelling front, the Legion I've laboured over for three years is finally coming to a close and I can shift my attention to other projects more fully. There is the issue of Legion vehicles after all the infantry is done including the Death Lord himself, so not to worry, I'll still be around for a long while. :biggrin.:

I'm currently in the middle of listening to the unabridged version of Horus Rising, the book that lit a spark that is still burning to this very day. Back then, I fell in love with the setting. Worldbreaking events unfolding where people, human and superhuman, were foced into unthinkable ordeals and sacrifices in order to preserve, or cast into ruin, the Imperium they sought so hard to build. It had such scale and might in it, and it still does.

I loved how the Astartes were portrayed throughout the Horus Heresy anthology. Mighty demigods of battle, titans among mortal men that sparked fear and awe. Beyond human, our beares of the torch in a hostile, dark galaxy. Humanity's hope. I wanted to express that somehow in my hobby. I wanted the Astartes to look as they were portrayed, awe inspiring giants. I had a fondness for the XIVth Legion even back then, I loved their tragedy. So I gave it a shot.

Here are some pics I'm glad I've managed to dig up from the internet. They're from around 2009. You may recognise the basis for my Veteran sergeant, along with a few veterans. There weren't any shiny and cool Legion bits back then, only sweat, tears and the stench of superglue and greenstuff. What a wonderful range of things we have now! Life however took it's course and I never finished the project, the models sitting packed and unused for years. I'm not even sure what reignited the passion of making tiny plastic giant men again, but here we finally are. :smile.:

Anyway!
I managed to have a nice game of Zone Mortalis recently against a brother in arms' Word Bearers as the defender. Alas, all the vital terminals were destroyed and with the Word Beares fleeing victoriously, the dark labyrinthine corridors became my men's tomb. Lost 5 to 1, what a humiliation!

Imperial Army has made advances, and a pact with the Mechanicum ensures all the graces of the Omnissiah stay operational. Along with the Enginseer I've based all my troops, bringing the total amount to 45 riflemen and 3 sergeants.

Now, for the Death Guard. I've prepared two spare sergeants with Manreapers for variety's sake and both the vexilla and vox operators, and a five man melta squad is done, along with a rapier crewman.

As per usual the sweet comes last. May I present to you Nathaniel Garro, battle-captain of 7th great company, in a time before the Heresy and preceding the loss of his leg. The shoulder pads are regular mk4 ones, the icon from an awful ebay set of shoulderpads I never put to use, filed down and glued in place.

That's it for now. I'm sorry you had to wade through all this reminiscing to get to the models. :biggrin.:
C&C most welcome as always, cheers!

Well, hopefully soon I’ll be copying your mk6 conversions and putting them to work.

I really want to see you do more work on the DG but I am excited as to what you’ve got in mind for the next project. It’s also very cool to see some old school work and I’m loving the zone mortalis battle. That has to be my favorite game type.

The new DG additions look fantastic. Something about those sarges with the brush on their helm, and that helmet itself, with scythe in hands just looks awesome. A few of them together would look like an elite unit. I also have to say I’d love to copy one of them in the future.

Oh man, those are wonderful poses yet again. Love the trip down memory lane too, those were great!

Shame about the loss. Slow and purposeful perhaps wasn't enough in a mission of speed and fluidity, eh?

Hushrong: Thanks! It's not over yet.  I really like the look of the brush helmet too, ties them into the Legion aesthetic nicely and stands out from the regular meat and potatoes. As it happens while I was sorting out bits I still found a single manreaper and a Death Guard legion shoulder pad, so doing a third scythe champion for an alternative command squad doesn't sound that far off. Also copy away!

Hungry Nostraman Lizard: Thanks! The model is still intact so don't worry, I was only referring to the background story.

Had a nice little painting session with Mekol so things are starting to shape up.

I also couldn't resist the temptation so I bought the new Chaos Space Marine kit just to see what all the cool new bits look like up close. I also couldn't resist trying to scale one up just for kicks. :teehee: I think it was a bit too much of a hassle, but it was a fun little experiment regardless.

Our buddy Hushrong had an interesting question regarding some of the details on how I made the true scale mk6 models so I'll post it here as well for posterity.
The rest of the tutorial can be found here: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331356-heresy-era-legio-xiv-in-sterquiliniis-invenitur/?p=5171777

I am trying to copy your mk6 conversion at the moment. Had to bust out the green stuff cable makers I bought forever ago and put it to work. Any tips on how you make them? Size you used? How long did you let it cure/dry before modeling it on? Where do they end over the shoulder? Kind of want to pick your brain on that.

I use the smaller corrugation plates and make a bunch of cable strings I can later use how I please. I let them cure straight as they are easy enough to bend. If I needed extreme angles for a cable I would put it in place while it's still setting. It's not the most consistent job, but the measure I'm going for is about 1.5mm in diameter. The cables end at right about the shoulder, and on most models the pauldrons will hide them. To make them sit better I cut a small portion off the end at an angle so it will sit more neatly. The center bit on the torso is a 2mm bit of plasticard I've cut into shape to which the cables are then glued. To top it off I shaved off the round bit from the belt and moved it onto the torso bit as a nice little detail, replacing the belt buckle with a punched out bit of plasticard. Picture for reference, I hope this helps. :smile.:

That's all for now, C&C always appreciated.
Cheers!
