Step1: Make sure you have a nice tidy work space.

Step2: gather all the materials you may need to hand in order to avoid unnecessary distraction.

Step 3: if a water source isn't available, simply use the tears of fellow hobbyists who are painfully aware they will never quite match your talents as a means of thinning out those tricky to achieve finishes.

Fantastic updates Markus_!

I really like the mechanicum figures but I am just smitten with the mk6 armor conversions! I really like those!!! I'll be definitely trying to copy this for some Sons of Horus and Alpha Legion Kill teams!!!

Capt. Jack: It is a pleasure to hear! I admire your hobby endeavours and follow them with a keen eye.
The_son_of_Dorn: Nah, too much salt in that.
hushrong: Thanks, I'm glad you like them! Would look great as Alpha Legionaires I bet.
marcusc: Cheers, I hope it works.

I've been busy with other things, so I haven't had much time or energy for hobby stuff. I've basecoated a few minis I might as well show and I've been working on a small terrain piece. I'll be making a woodland set to be used in games.

Here's the civilian lot.

Now, I've been planning on making cultist allies for the Word Beares for a long while, and I got some to the point where I can test colour schemes. What I've got planned is a squad of rabble in tattered clothing and autoguns, and another squad of flak armoured troops with lasguns. Here's a vexilla, a regular joe and another in flak armour (don't worry, I won't forget to fix the weapon stock :teehee:). The tattered characters are based on Frostgrave cultists with Genestealer cults arms and weapons. The armoured ones will be based on Warzone plastics with heads from Maxmini.

Here's the small terrain piece in three stages. I've put some roots to dry to add a bit of character to it, but otherwise it's waiting for primer by now. Regarding terrain I've been greatly inspired by the fantastic blog of Ana Polanscak, The Gardens of Hecate. http://gardensofhecate.blogspot.com/
Plastic base, stacked cork, Fimo modelling clay, some sand and slate. The trees I sculpted some years ago but never got round to using until now.
If you have ideas for a colourscheme that would fit a dark accursed forest I'm all ears.

That's it for now, thanks for looking.

Yeah, those mk6 conversions would be fantastic for a kill team of Alpha Legion operatives. If I could ever finish my current two teams...

The terrain and cultists look great. The one with the stahlhelm and mask is awesome. A bunch of those would make a sweet Blood Pact army.

hushrong: Cheers! The helmets are great, but I couldn't find a use for them before now.

Allright, the non combatant lot is complete apart from bases. It was quite a nice change of pace to just pick a bunch of colours I had in mind and riff with them without considering how I'll paint another 50 models with them. :smile.: Anyway here's some photos.

Bjorn Firewalker: Thank you!
KrautScientist: Cheers! they are a great base for robed characters, really looking forward to the new GSC models, I can already see a Malcador in one of them.
Battybattybats: Thanks! I was inspired by Orthodox monk garbs with their intricate symbols all over.
hushrong: Thanks!
Charlo: Cheers!
Hungry Nostraman Lizard: I'm glad to hear it!

Happy new year everyone! My hobby time has been limited, but I'm back at it with keen interest and all sorts of projects brewing.
As Games Workshop had their moment with made to order Vostroyans I thought it would be a high time to dig what I have out of the cabin and start work on them. They're the perfect models for Imperial Militia of the 31st millenium and do not require any converting as the designs are so sublime. I do still try here and there. :teehee: I had the lot that I'd painted cleaned up, made some slight alterations to the medicus and turned a vox operator into a sniper to bolster an upcoming squad up to five models.

Regarding Legionnaires I've worked on an all around set of 5 Destroyer marines to be used in any force I wield. I plan to magnetise the backpacks if I ever want to pay through the nose for jump infantry. For the missile launcher I thought a Van Saar rad cannon would be a fitting representation.

Lastly what I have on the painting table and some BRRRRT inspired by a GAU-12 firing demo.

It's a beautiful thing.

I also have something a bit special in the works but that will require me to actually go and get a bottle of white spray paint first.
That's it for now, thanks for looking!

The Destroyers are shaping up nicely, good use of the Tzeentchian helmet, it works really well.

Looking forward to seeing you paint up the Vostroyans, they always did look more archaic and how I imagine the Imperial Army. What colours are you thinking for them?

Pearson73: Thanks! My plan is a blue gray coat much like the pilot I posted earlier, with gold trim to bring some warm contrast.
Hungry Nostraman Lizard: Cool! Looking forward to see them then. :smile.:
DuskRaider: It works quite well, thanks.

A small detour but I got myself a bit of a birthday present. Bought the whole lot of red books, and a certain named character for my Sisters of Silence. It's a beautiful model in itself, but I still wanted to tweak the pose a bit. The Knight Commander will join her as of yet meager sorority.

Pressure is mounting on the table as a lot of my backlog shifts from assembly to ready for paint.
This year I hope to finally bring to finish at the least all my planned Death Guard and Word Bearers models.

My initial steps into Heresy were a bit of a nose dive where I just picked whatever models I fancied and explored the world with conversions so the army is a bit of a mess but there's enough variety to conjure decent lists out of it. The Wobbies were another "rule of cool" kind of thing because the Legion specific models were so well designed. The actual plan is a much more concise elite force with cult elements as fodder.

Then I have the Imperial Army detachment planned, two or three House Makabius Knights, as of yet mystery Legion number 3, Sisters of Silence detachment, a set of woodland terrain... The list can go on. It's quite easy to get swamped with more plans than time will allow but I still have my hopes up.

C&C is always appreciated, thanks for looking.

The army scheme sounds good to me.

Glad to see you picked up Krole, it's a great model and I'm looking forward to seeing you paint her. The other projects on your list sound exciting too, should be a good year!

Pearson73: Cheers. The model is a beauty, so much intricate detail. Reposing her was kind of a preservative action as I don't want her outstreched hands getting stuck or broken in pretty much everything. :biggrin.:

I'm currently in the middle of repurposing two already finished squads for the Death Guard. The disconnect I felt wielding squads with two distinct armour marks was kind of bothering me as it wasn't varied enough to look like the squads were made of individuals mustered through necessity and not unified enough to look like a proper squad of Legionnaires. That is however precisely my plan for the Word Bearers with them wearing mainly mk4 or mk5 plate.

Anyhow the tactical support team will wear entirely mk4 plate and the heavy flamer squads will be wearing mk3. I'll keep you posted but for now all I have is a sergeant turned to a specialist for assault oriented duties. He did maintain his bionic arm as I think it's a kind of neat joke to have one with a veteran user of exotic weapons that tend to overheat.

Make a ten man squad of these, give them close combat weapons and you have a formidable retinue for a character.

C&C most welcome, cheers!

Rattled the can a bit and got some stuff basecoated.
Destroyers got their backpacks magnetised along with a nice smooth coat of primer. My plan is to make them look very battleworn in black scorched armour.

eDwld1A.png

Now, I did mention earlier that I had something nice to show you. These guys were made as a chosen retinue for the standard bearer, but they will also fit nicely as regular sergeants if I need specific gear. The models as well as the standard bearer go way back, as I originally started the conversions in 2012 or something, but life took a different course so I never finished them until now. There's a reason I don't have that many mk2 plates in my army, and it's the tediousness of sculpting segmented armour. :biggrin.:
