Xenith
Got started on the Parasite last night, small model and easy to paint, I've blocked in the blue exoskeleton, and will tackle the rest tonight. I also tested out Kroxigor scale vs my akhelian mix on the base to see if I could fully switch over to kroxigor, as I might do with my Alpha Legion, terrible photo under bad light, but kroxigor is on the left, akhelian mix on the right - the kroxigor is just a little too green for my nids, so I'll stick with the current recipe. spafe and Brother Nathan 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/334964-jabberwocky-rises-the-consuming-wraith/page/11/#findComment-5847493 Share on other sites
Brother Nathan
How are you finding the model? Theres a few alterations i intend when i get one. Rules wise with warlord traits it has great potential Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/334964-jabberwocky-rises-the-consuming-wraith/page/11/#findComment-5848208 Share on other sites
Xenith
The model itself is ok - there's quite a few areas where they've strayed from overall nid design elements, like the waggly tentacles, but the head is ace and creepy. It's a pretty unique model/unit type also, kind of like lictors? I think they'll have a lot of potential in crusade where they can get upgrades to the implant attack! Brother Nathan
Id say theyd be really fun in crusade. Much as rippers are pretty awful them spreading out for objectives and having to be dealt with should help nids too. Of relics mawclaws can work but its normal attacks are pretty meh though the gestation sack for more rippers to throw your opponent off could be work able. Flying over one squad and infecting with the strat then dropping off a squad of rippers before charging another squad and infecting it. For 80 points and a few cp a character denying obsec to 2 squads and potentially a squad of rippers and 2 extra single bases of them and infected mortal wounds... a safe hold turning their battle pans to deal with a small portion... its no tank but is definately a strong irritation... Xenith
And the parasite is finished! I've added a bit more to the base, like a lil' ripper buddy and a victim... Don't look too closely. Xenith
Thanks! Yea, I've been outting little rippers on the bases of the bigger stuff, but the parasite needs one or two for sure - he could have really done with being on a 50mm base, the 40mm is still pretty wobbly and 50mm would have given more room for some narrative elements on the base too. Next up is my Exocrine/Haruspex - after that the tyrannocyte and mawloc to finish my vow. Last week I managed to get the blue down, but over the weekend I've blocked in all th base colours, so he's basic tabletop ready. Xenith
Bit of progress over the weekend, Big Bertha is finished, barring a final varnish to protect the contrast. Brother Nathan
have to say looks great! dunno if iv said this before but i truely love your scheme. its striking and fairly unique. what fleet do you use it as or prefer it to represent? Xenith
Thanks Definitely some trial and error with the scheme, but I do love it. My fleet is supposedly plagueing the red scar area in Imperium Nihilus and actively battling the blood angel successors there, so technically it's an offshoot of Leviathan (I also have a preference for psychic stuff) but due to cityfighting, etc, and colour scheme divergence I use whatever rules I'm feeling like, really! Xenith
And we're done! Basing material still drying, but these guys are finished for A Bug's Life 2022! Xenith
Let's see if I've bitten off more than I can chew... Death or Glory time! I, Xenith, Hive Commander of Fleet Jabberwocky vow one unit of three Venomthropes, to be completed on or before the 22nd August 2022. spafe 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/334964-jabberwocky-rises-the-consuming-wraith/page/11/#findComment-5855572 Share on other sites
Xenith
Some stunningy good weather yesterday let me get these guys primed and the basecoat down. Xenith
And I'm done! Phew, vacation Tuesday morning so managed these with a day in hand. Quick job, but ok for the table. I'm not 100% on the green sacs, yellow was a close runner up, however I'm using yellow/orange for adrenaline glands. I think I might have used yellow for toxin sacs before, or possibly the lime green, howver I'll stick with them for now, it's bright and will draw attention to them! Xenith
A quick overview of the state of my Tyranids at the end of 2022 from Pile of Potential: I'm not doing too badly (for me) in the amount of painted nids, just over 50% of my total collection. I'd still like to get some more done for 2023, and will aim for about 1k points, probably during A Bug's Life 2023. What I'd really like to get done: 170pts - Maleceptor 230pts - Flyrant 180pts - 6 more warriors, magnetised 120pts - Genestealer Patriarch 160pts - 20 Hormagaunts 125 - Carnifex 30 models and 985pts in total. Xenith
Fleet Photo time! This is what I managed in 2022! There's also 10 gaunts that I totally forgot about, but couldn't be bothered to get out of their case -i needed these to fill out an army for a local tourney in which I came third, running an awful 8th ed list with a tevigon, raveners etc. Filius and Brother Nathan 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/334964-jabberwocky-rises-the-consuming-wraith/page/11/#findComment-5907263 Share on other sites

Xenith
Thank you it's actually pretty simple, in this instance just white scar spray, recess shade with magos purple, broader shade of magos to darken the recesses, then start flicking lines of corax white paint starting in the magos purple to give a striped effect, and start to feather the magos purple into the white. I think on the big front plate, I just washed the whole thing with 0.25:1 magos purple:contrast medium then tidied up with white afterwards.
