Awesome warboss, I love the vibrant green- good for characters I think, helps them to stand out from the crowd ! Love the metallics on the weapons and exhausts…. So much win here !!!

Well done and happy new year bud !!

Mithril

Thank you for the feedback,  I used Scale 75 paint for the exhausts, put some dark brown oil paint over it and then on the exhausts a mix of pigment fixer and black soot pigment from Forge World (do they even sell weathering powder anymore?)

Thanks also for the well-wishing, I hope 2022 treats you well. :)

Wow, this blog of mine has been left a bit fallow for a while. This is only a quick cheeky update but I recently purchased Artel W's DaBoom Chief for a friend... and then bought the entire squad for me. They are equipped with the same weapons as a Tankbusta squad so that is what they shall be.

I've just glued him together so I'll show him off quickly. I've decided my Chief will be painted Thunderhawk Blue to fit in with elements from my army and I will paint the one intended for my friend in red. Here's a quick video showing him from all angles.

Edit: Here's a picture of the whole squad and the spare leader.

I am extremely pleased with the sculpts so far. Very detailed and there is only about 1-2 injection ports and no mould lines per part so cleanup is easy. I have heard that the parts are pre-washed so the models are good to prime out of the box. I think I will be putting that to the test. This doesn't seem to come from the same planet as "Finecast". I saw no obvious signs of bubbles or warpage either. They seem to be great quality but they are not cheap. That could be a real downside for some. I should be spending this money on food or something. :teehee:

I have fully assembled them with no sub-assemblies however, so getting into some nooks and crannies might be really tough. I guess time will tell. I'll be sure to keep people informed. It isn't my first priority painting currently but once they are undercoated I'll be working on these as well as some Howling Banshees depending on my mood. :)

Back again! These models became my top priority shortly after I started painting them. they became really fun to paint and everything else just took a backseat. For anyone that doesn't get the reference of these models they are based off the Soldier in the multiplayer team FPS Team Fortress 2. I tried to match the colours as best I could but here's my inspiration:

Blu_Soldier.webp.a359a4bd0c73a90cf467b0973d3d4a31.webpSoldier.webp.93232206a3bc9b8f5dd1f0b74244a304.webp

The grenades turned out a bit too saturated but for the most part I'm pleased with the result.

An' then 'e perfekted it so dat no livin' ork kould best 'im in da ring of krumpin'! An' then he bought two of every squig on Armageddon! An' then he put dem all onto a rok! I am delighted. I just watched the bewildering joy of the Ork Goff Rokkin' Christmas song and now you've given a stirring tribute to the soldier. I am crying tears of laughter!

So... I was supposed to be airbrush undercoating some terrain today but I was waiting for my neighbour to drop by for a cup of tea so I couldn't get settled into something like that for too long. I'm supposed to be working on some Imperial Knight Helverins as well so to keep myself occupied I had a hobby butterfly moment...

These lads look like they will be more complicated to paint than the DaBoom Skwad but between the Mk1 Iron Ork and Meet the Pyrork I can see they will be distracting me from the projects I should be doing.

A very Worthy distraction though

February must be Ork Waaagh month cause i'm feeling da Green Energy too  Gork N Mork are stirring!!

Cannot wait to see these lads painted up!!

I got my First game of 10th edition yesterday. I ended up being a nutritious snack for the Tyranids but I gave them a hefty repair bill in turn.

Some highlights include both my Meganobz and Mega Dread get into combat with his Screamer Killer Carnifexes in turn one and deal a massive blow to both leaving them on 2 and 3 wounds respectively.... before being neatly folded into metal cubes in return. The Screamer Killer responsible to mashing up the Meganobz proceeded to cripple my Battlewagon before my Heroic Trukk Tank Shocked him in the shins and brought him down. The Tyranid Warrior blob stormed the middle of the map and massacred my totally battle-hardened grots, taking my home objective. I retaliated with my Stormboyz  and slaughtered the Termagants lurking on his home objective. This awkward situation persisted until his Hive Tyrant finished wiping bits of Battlewagon off his talons and realised He'd left something in the oven back home and went to eat all the Stormboyz. The rather scary looking Tyranid Prime got unceremoniously duffed up by one slugga boy and his attending Nob. My Burna Boyz managed to deal with Deathleaper, but they suffered pretty horrific losses to do so. With no significant shooting occurring my Kustom Force Felds had nothing to do all game.

By the end of the game I had a Big Mek, a Burna and a unit of Flash Gitz way out of position in my deployment zone. They had tremendous fun lighting up targets all game though their actual performance was somewhat questionable.

Though I lost I had a great time, my Meganobz and Mega Dread got to do some work before I removed them so I am happy with that, though apart from being a taxi my Battlewagon was pretty useless after that. It might have been better if it could field a Deff Rolla, but is that only on the Bonebreaka now? Overall my opponent, being an old friend of mine did a great job of explaining rules, tutoring me in general game sense and tactical decisions, making me aware of useful stratagems like the use of grenades, and constantly reminding me to pick up my sustain hits. We forgot to add the points at the end of the game, and though he called it a draw I think he was being charitable. I had nothing left to repel his monstrous creatures and I got some really unhelpful secondary objectives that kept turning up a turn or so after I achieved something, which actually got pretty hilarious by the end of the game.

Apologies for the lack of close-ups of my stuff, I was mainly excited to see the new additions to my friends Tyranid army. I also trailed off on photos near the end of the game, as I got invested (or is that infested?) by the narrative and forgot to pick up my phone.

It was fun to field a more rounded version of my army and still squeeze in my Mega Dread for the giggles but without being able to benefit from twin linking and after losing synergy with the Big Mek shooting buff I realised there was no reason not to put guns on my Meganobs in future. Good just those models push-fit the arms so well...

Anyway, While I couldn't manage a full detailed battle report, I hope you enjoyed my rambling recollection. I feel more inspired to play 10th now without the continually disappointing showing of my Admech. It's also fun playing with miniatures that I'm not scared to handle for fear of breaking them. Orks are sturdy and if anything breaks it's probably a dodgy batch of poly cement failing to hold an arm in place, an easy fix. Unless GW does something apocalyptically stupid with the Ork codex they might be my go-to army for 10th edition.

Thanks for the Report and Pics, it looked like fun!, Glad you got a game of 10th Ed in & Glad you had fun   lotsa scenery !!

you need a rematch now your a bit more savvy with tenth rules

Cheers, M

Thankfully I've got a rematch sorted for Wednesday. I noticed a few problems with my list so I have tweaked my list accordingly. I couldn't find the Deff Rolla upgrade in the Battlescribe list, I didn't see the Dual Killsaw option (I rolled enough ones in the last game to justify re-rolls!) and finally I realised that the Big Mek was giving the Meganobs a shooting buff so I replaced him with a Warboss, giving me enough points for the Follow Me Ladz enhancement. Hopefully that will mean the difference between bouncing off monstrous creatures and having just enough damage to wipe them out. We will see though, My friend is tweaking his list too and his Screamer Killers will be replaced. He claims Tex will be making a showing. I think that's the pet name I gave his first Tyrannofex so I could just see vast swathes of my army melted by bio acid instead. Yummy. :teehee:

Ooh, I forgot to post the rematch results for my last game.

My opponent was testing a list out to play a game against an Eldar opponent  and so he tweaked his list to better suit that. It was a more lightweight list, with both the Screamer Killers gone and replaced by an acid spray Tyrannofex, a Broodlord and a bucket of Genestealers, a Biovore and some Barbgaunts.

Notable events included:

A counter-charge by the Broodlord and Genestealers that took out my Mega Armoured Nobs and dragged down my Warboss, who were later ripped apart by the Flash Gitz

My Flash Gitz burning around the battlefield in the back of a Trukk saving  Mek with some eye-watering overwatch and turned various models into paste. I am really warming to them now.

My Battlewagon, Killa Kanz and Boys all piled into my friend's Norn... thingy? (The one with the two melta rule attacks) and proceeded to whittle it down, until it wiped out the Kanz and the Battlewagon. The Wagon exploded, killing the Norn thingy and the last of the Boyz on the point. That was a bloodbath!

My Mega Dread ran amok through no-man's land, securing a point and slaying the Tyrannofex that counter-charged it. It wasn't enough. That Tyranid flank crumbled and left me with one more Biovore left to deal with.

His Barbgaunts managing to prevent a charge with my Stormboyz before they were whittled down and also prevented my Trukk from reaching an objective before the game ended. No many kills but some important tactical mobility denial.

My opponent sending in a spore mine to cause some tactical point scoring in the future and my Grotz openening up with their Blastaz and killing it, denying his potential supply of secondary points.

I lost out on objectives as I often do but I did a much better job of forcing him off points and counter-attacking after I forgot to Waaaagh first turn. Both our armies took an absolute mauling but it was extremely fun.

Thinking about it, perhaps I should revisit my older models like the Stompa with my orange fluorescent paint. It would really pump up the contrast on the glowy bits. That of course depends on how much effort it takes.

  • 4 weeks later...

Okay, I've just come back from a good Krumpin' and I'z gots sumfing to say.

I got invited to a 1000 point game by a friend into the local game store and it was certainly an odd game.

image.thumb.jpeg.cdafe50d8873c03da39027b36f61e0bd.jpeg

My opponent wanted to try out his new Salamanders army rather than his usual T'au. We got that strange diagonal deployment and I won setup and first turn. My first turn's shooting was dreadful, only taking out two marines from from the Desolation Squad. However, I declared a Waaagh after being reminded that I can declare it at any point during the turn. My Warboss and Meganob bodyguard dismounted and engaged the Dreadnought, who was destroyed after we finally realised that I'd once again forgot to roll for sustained hits with my units. My Mega Dread showered the Primaris Lieutenant (Knife guy from Leviathan?) with shrapnel from it's Boombits and then proceeded to mangle him beyond recognition with it's Rippa Klaw.

image.thumb.jpeg.e89da641e50522bac7d28a55fa8a817e.jpeg

Of course, my opponent retaliated. He brought his Repulsor Executioner to bear and the heavy laser destroyer fired a burst at the Mega Dread but hit nothing significant, bouncing off my Invulnerable saves. He unleashed hell on my Meganobs with the rest of the Executioner;s weapons and the Terminators at my Meganobs weathered the storm. His Desolation squad destroyed one of my Killa Kans and Grots and that was the limit of his shooting. His Terminators started their grisly work on my Meganobs, who avoided being wiped by  the Invulnerable saves from the Waaaagh...

Turn 2 I whittled the health of the Repulsor down with the Mega Dread and Killa Kans, my Flash Gitz engaged the Desolators and wiped them out, and the Battlewagon tank-shocked into the Terminators to rescue the Warboss. Pan's Assault Intercessors with captain flattened half of my Boyz squad on one of the objectives using Hammer of Wrath and wiped out the rest in a flash of well-trained chainblades. My friend conceded at that point though. My Stormboys were still waiting to drop in and Pan's army was so damaged that he believed he couldn't come back from it. I felt bad for it, I just got some good results during the Waaagh and broke the back of his army early. I felt bad for him because I think I won primarily due to some lucky armour saves so that he couldn't counter-attack until it was too late. Still, it's nice to get another game in and I finally broke my losing streak. :D

Thanks for the Batrep, and the pics (your friends army is quite nice, and being salamanders helps )

It's a shame it went only for two turns, perhaps being a new army for your mate he hasn't quite got the feel for em  maybe a rematch is in order !!

Cheers, M
