Magos Takatus
Hi all! Yes, reports of my demise are sadly untrue and I'm making a comeback. I recently had a game of 10th with my buddy Pan and he utterly avenged his Ultramarines by bringing out his Orks to fight me. Sadly I forgot to take any decent photos but he absolutely kicked my Teef in. It was a fun game, but at the start of the first turn I have caused -5 kills because I downed a single enemy Ork and one of my Killa Kans units cause 6 mortal wounds to itself with their special rule. A combination of good plays by my opponent, my poor rules comprehension, me allowing myself to get rusty while re-learning the game, and poor dice rolls led to me getting dominated, but it was an Ork on Ork game, we had fun, though my social battery was pretty low after the game ended. I think a shaky grasp of the rules stresses me out, so I need to improve. I do have something for you fine Bosses though, I have finished my Artel W Pyromaniaks Skwad. These models are just as gorgeous as the Tankbusta equivalents, but they have a TF2 Pyro reference, so I arguably love them even more. These make my Existing Burnas look a bit puny, especially as they are on dinky old bases and scrunched up postures but They are also a different painting style so they won't fit in great anyway. Good thing it's a rag-tag army, eh? I am particularly proud of the Ork that was my biggest foray into OSL yet. I love how he turned out, it wasn't as scary as I thought it would be, but it did require the ol' finkin' cap in places. I'm not sure what my Next Ork project will be, probably more Stormboys or Kommandos but that will be a way off. I've got Kroot and my first army for sale to work on. (Mechanicum) Have a good time and I hope you enjoyed my now additions. "Hudda hudda hudda!"- Skorchop Manroasta on Thraka. Absolutely stellar work as always. Magos Takatus
Thanks, you really put a smile on my face with that last post, Evil Eye. Considering this was to be my low-effort side army project it's mutated into... not that. I don't think all of my Orks rolling forward will have this much effort put into them but I think over all they will be a bit better than my original models. At least until Ork Boy Mobs burn me out again. Magos Takatus
Hi all. A quick update. No really painting progress on my Orks to report since I've been doing a lot lately (Including spending two and a half months in Australia away from my paints!), but while I was out there I noticed the Christmas release of the Taktical Brigade. While my main Ork force is a Dread Mob, it's always been a Blood Axe Dread Mob at heart so I have always had a soft spot for Kommandos and Stormboys. Add to that bonuses for sticking a Big Mek (another favourite, I love Meky-y Orks!) into a Flash Gitz mob for extra firepower. I LOVE Flash Gitz so this is great news for me. The bad news is that some of my Orks are so Kunnin' an' sneaky that even their paint is camouflaged. I had to build the Deffkoptas and Zagstruk (Finally decoupled from the Goffs, what's a Goff doing muckin' around polishing his boots anyway? Far better to sneak him into a Blood Axe force! ). I have stomped all over the "Boyz before toys" mentality because that's borin' Goff Finkin'. Painting basic Boyz in camo is soul-destroying and many kits (including my kitbashed Kommandos) are based on the Boyz kit anyway, so it feels like I've already painted about three million Boyz. As a result my model count is probably a bit low for 1000 points but considering I normally field a Dread Mob it still feels like an unfathomably large number of Orks to me. I'll eventually reinforce my Kommandos with the models I got from the Kill Team box but for now my models kitbashed from the Forge World Kommando kit, Kromlech kneeling Ork legs and weapons and the Ork Boyz kit bulked out by Finecast Kommandos will have to do. For those curious, Here's the army list: +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ + FACTION KEYWORD: Xenos - Orks + DETACHMENT: Taktikal Brigade + TOTAL ARMY POINTS: 1000pts + + WARLORD: Char1: Boss Snikrot + ENHANCEMENT: Mek Kaptin (on Char1: Big Mek with Shokk Attack Gun) + NUMBER OF UNITS: 11 + SECONDARY: - Bring It Down: (2x2) - Assassination: 3 Characters +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Char1: 1x Boss Snikrot (95 pts): Warlord, Mork’s Teeth, Slugga Char2: 1x Boss Zagstruk [Legends] (90 pts): Da Vulcha’s Klaws and choppa, Slugga Char3: 1x Big Mek with Shokk Attack Gun (100 pts): Grot assistant, Close combat weapon, Shokk attack gun Enhancement: Mek Kaptin (+35 pts) 10x Boyz (80 pts) • 9x Boy 8 with Close combat weapon, Shoota 1 with Close combat weapon, Rokkit launcha • 1x Boss Nob: Power klaw, Slugga 10x Stormboyz (130 pts) • 1x Boss Nob: Slugga, Power klaw • 9x Stormboy: 9 with Choppa, Slugga 5x Stormboyz (65 pts) • 1x Boss Nob: Slugga, Power klaw • 4x Stormboy: 4 with Choppa, Slugga 5x Burna Boyz (60 pts) • 4x Burna Boy: 4 with Burna, Cuttin’ flames • 1x Spanner: Close combat weapon, Big shoota 5x Flash Gitz (80 pts): Ammo Runt • 1x Kaptin: Choppa, Snazzgun • 4x Flash Gitz: 4 with Choppa, Snazzgun 10x Kommandos (120 pts): Bomb Squig, Distraction Grot • 9x Kommandos 1 with Breacha ram 1 with Burna, Close combat weapon 7 with Choppa, Slugga • 1x Boss Nob: Slugga, Power klaw 3x Deffkoptas (90 pts): 3 with Kopta rokkits, Slugga, Spinnin’ blades 3x Deffkoptas (90 pts): 3 with Kopta rokkits, Slugga, Spinnin’ blades It looks like a very odd army, almost without a core to me, since I am used to having some grots and some heavy units to have some staying power but I'm looking forward to seeing how the Deffkoptas compare to Kans with the extra mobility and hopefully my army will be a little less predictable with the extra mobility rules. I might just get blown right off the board, however. We shall see. Don't get me wrong, I love the GW Burnas, but Artel W's version are something else. Also, thank you! Magos Takatus
Heya, just a quick update. Since steering away from my Dread Mob more into the Taktical Brigade and units that will synergise better with it I have been building Loota Squads. I've been converting Spanner models to look a bit more Loota-ish and to use some of the Tau wargear since my Looted tank was already a Devilfish. I've kept the gas sphere parts from the Kustom Mega Blaster models to make them a bit more recognisable. I hope you like them. Magos Takatus
I had another game with my Taktikal Brigade yesterday, a rematch against my friend's Kroot-heavy Tau. This was a crushing victory for me, including my opponent getting tabled. To be fair I think luck was a major factor with several of his key units remaining battle-shocked and unable to secure key objectives during the game. I managed to bring down his Stormsurge when he stomped onto my objective and charged into my grots to deny me points. Unfortunately I tar-pitted him with a unit of Shoota Boys and a Warboss and whittled him down with some power klaw attacks and sustained fire from my two Lootas units (Who REALLY objected to it trying to steal their loot) and some Flash Gitz. The Stormsurge finally crumpled near the end of the game. The other flank consisted of Crisis suits, Stealth suits and a Ghostkeel. I advanced my Slugga Boyz and Burnas to engage with them, and charged the Stealth Suits and Crisis suits on the Waaagh, while Boss Zagstruk and his Stormboys descended from behind. The overwatch was underwhelming even with flamer-armed suits and they were soon destroyed, leaving the Ghostkeel to sneak into my backfield. It was eventually brought down by my Flash Gitz in melee, trying to prevent it from sabotaging my home objective. It didn't go all my way of course, Zagstruk's Stormboys got ripped apart by Kroot reprisals leaving him alone and wounded until the Slugga Boys came and rescued him. My Killa Kans died early when they tried to push up the board and died to fire from all directions One of my Kans Blew himself up in the first turn when shooting, that's the second game I've used them in a row where that happened. My Deffkoptas were thoroughly Ghostkeel'd. My Kommandos died very early once again and Snitrot went skulking off once again, he seems to keep getting krumped by Kroot these days... I think the way we were using the terrain ruled skewed things heavily in my favour so perhaps we will have to look into that again. It was a fun game from my perspective, my opponent is a good player so it's rare for me to be able to keep pace with him, never mind beat him. I am having a lot more fun with my Taktikal Brigade than I ever did with my Dread Mob, the mobility afforded by the Stormboys and Kommandos is fun, the Mek Kaptin also makes my Flash Gitz absolutely disgusting. Probably my favourite Ork unit right now. Not typically very Blood Axe tactics but I did paint mine up in lurid camo, so it still counts.... right?
