Down&Dirty, corrupted Death Guard - The Dr will see you now.

Recommended Posts

That's exactly the rust look I've been holding out painting things for trying to figure out.

And that was a terribly constructed sentence, let's try that again, I didn't notice any guides in the thread, but I won't lie, I skimmed. Still can you do a tutorial on how you're doing the heavy, flaking rust?

Wow that rust texture is looking so good, the weathering of the green paint looks awesome as well. Definitely looking forward to seeing it completed as well as the FW dreadnought.

I'm really looking forward to doing more vehicles and dreads! Might even convert up a leviathan!

It's actually mentioned a little earlier, about 2 posts back. It's a product called scenic rust, it's great fun to use.

Thanks guys! I'm looking forward to adding the AK rust effects to the textured rust. I'll keep you posted on the progress!

Here's an almost done marine - I tinkered with the process slightly having done another MKA course!

Nailed it!

Have you been removing some of the mutations? If so, how do you go about it, and plugging the holes? I’ve been thinking about removing a few to help changing a few up so that they aren’t too similar.

Are these guys 30K or 40K? They seem pretty uncorrupted, which is why I'm asking... I love the weathering, though.

They are going to be used as both, but very much with a 30K feel. I am not a huge fan of the overly mutated look the Dark Imperium kits have.

Fantastic job!

Great paint job! Im a fan of the none corrupted look, they could be late heresy before nurgles love really set in

Thanks gents! I've had a lot of fun with the weathering on these chaps; weathering can hide a multitude of sins!

I have chopped and sanded a lot of stuff off them; a curved knife and a dremel can be your friend here, but I ended up taking a few chunks out of my fingers in the process...... A little GS can fill the holes from scraping the teeth from belly mouths off, but you can pretty much shape the plastic with the knife.

Here is the latest update on the Rhino, unfortunately I seem to have come down with some Nurgly infestation this weekend, which has stalled my progress; I'd hoped to have it finished by now. Not much more to go!

Not made as much progress on the DG as I'd like, mainly because I painted up a Thousand Sons Rhino for a friend! It was tough not to weather the hell out of it!

Hopefully I'll finish my own Rhino soon, I've 3 unfinished ones that I should just bite the bullet and deal with!!

However, as I did a bit of batch painting of DG here is more of my Call of Chaos pledge, the Bloat Drone

Ive also made a start on my Death Shroud! Absolutely love these models!! Really must get another set!!

I'm on a real painting binge this weekend, so I'll crank up the progress!!

I did a bit of a step by step to show how the white was done, just a case of using brown over a black primer, then adding deck Tan and the white into the mix.

We finally have a completion in the Call of Chaos! Exciting times!!

I'll get around to adding decent individual pics of the squad, but I'm proud to display my complete 7 man squad, all based and ready to roll!

The squad Rhino just needs a few more details done and it's ready to roll with these dudes! On to the bloat drone and Deathshroud!!

++Brother Yegor Salas++, a veteran of countless campaigns, bitter and conceited following years of being overlooked for advancement, on account of his terran lineage. Salas festers with seething bitterness and resentment, finding battle as one of the few avenues to adequately vent his frustrations. His modified mace is capable of cracking open power armour, as some of his erstwhile brethren have found out to their cost…..

http://i68.tinypic.com/5lt0qp.jpg

++Brother Taras Bolg++, a callous and brutal warrior, nothing more than a blunt instrument lacking in both finesse and mercy. Unusually for a member of the Fourteenth Legion he favours melee and close combat over the methodical application of supressing fire. Often first into a breach, Bolg revels in close quarter combat, slinging his bolter aside and nonchalantly bludgeoning his foes with his wickedly spiked mace before  grinding them into the ground with is heel.

http://i68.tinypic.com/ol54y.jpg

++Brother Varesh Lortz++, a cold and efficient killer. A stalwart and proficient warrior who is both self-satisfied and inflexible with regards to his capabilities.  His skill with a bolter is exceptional, easily gunning down foes at range. He displays a callous disdain in deviating from this preferred method of operation. Should he have cause to draw his combat blade his dour mood darkens into a spiteful temper, ensuring his blows inflict maximum damage without causing death.

http://i65.tinypic.com/24vk2ae.jpg

++Brother Axel Kryst++, a taciturn and aloof member of the squad who takes little interest in the fraternity or comradery of his brethren. He has a keen analytical mind and propensity towards machines and technology that should see him designated to the Great Company’s forge in due course. He currently finds solace in modifying grenades and other munitions to rain down noxious chemical death on his foes from afar.

http://i64.tinypic.com/121abk7.jpg

++Brother Feydor Boch++, a volatile and reckless marine, quick to anger and prone to bouts of rage that leads him to blatantly disregard anything approaching tactical acumen by rushing into any breach in the enemy lines, tacking cruel glee in either blasting foes at point blank range with his bolter or slashing them to ribbons with his wickedly serrated dagger.

http://i64.tinypic.com/2n0ublk.jpg

++Brother Igor Vilich++, a stoic and dependable veteran line marine. Highly proficient in his combat drills, Vilich has an uncanny knack of being in the right place at the right time during a battle. He rigidly adheres to Legion Standard Operational Procedure and doggedly follows the chain of command, showing little patience toward his more reckless younger brethren. In times past Vilich would have been a beneficient mentor to the inexperienced, now he keeps his own council as he laments the downfall of his beloved legion.

http://i67.tinypic.com/ff8r4g.jpg

++Brother Sergol Lenitz++,  a somewhat jovial and cheerful individual, which is all the more remarkiable considering his Barbaran origin. He often makes light of situations, much to the annoyance of his fellows. Like Lortz he is a highly proficient infantryman, taking great pleasure in goading his brother and flaunting his own skills.  Especially large for an Astartes, Lenitz delights in using his bulk to his advantage, smashing through obstacles rather than going around them, gracelessly ambling ever onwards whilst laughing maniacally.

The finished squad looks great.

For the character, leaving the hand bloated like that would make a more interesting design choice, his shoulderpad long unfitting for the 'blessed' arm.

Absolutely amazing stuff. Looking awesome!

The painted Death Guard are awesome. Your Necrosius is also looking like a nasty bastard!

Looking forward to more!

Thanks guys! I am glad you liked the squad! I really was a little 'meh' after getting he DI set, Initially I was very excited to see the new DG range, but the extreme amount of 'nurglization' really put me off them, so they sat around until the full range hit and well, I figured I could some modifications to get them more to my liking!

I am hoping that I can can do some sort of ruined shoulder pad for Necrosius, i've got a few parts I can muck around with. Shall put a few WIPs when I get chance.

I've finished off the Sorcerer and Death Shroud off my CoC vow!

++ CHEARON MORBIDEX ++

A creature of darkness and deceit, festering with bitterness and spite, lurking in the shadows, plotting and scheming how best to further his twisted ambitions. Chearon's heart was black long before his legion spat on their oaths of loyalty. A pariah on account of his psychic powers, Chearon lost his rank and status following Mortarion’s abolishment of the legion’s nascent Librarius. Many of the brutal atrocities committed by the Death Guard during the dying days of the Great Crusade can be attributed to him. Secretly using his psychic powers in defiance of his Primarch’s edict, he would bend peoples minds to his will, manipulating events to his advantage and concealing his darker proclivities

I've named this guy in honour of Kenshin's Chief Librarian from the old Deathguard.org site

Your Marines look far better without all of that unnecessary adornment. It makes me wonder why GW sculpted so much nonsense on to the models :huh.:

Keep 'em coming :D

Thanks! I'm glad you like them and share my distaste for some of the insane nurglization that's going on!

The next installment is a bit more corrupted, I really loved these models so have left a lot of the mutations stand!

I've decided to give the Deathshroud an 'honourific' title, as befitting their status. cebact or 'Sevast' is a Russian title meaning venerable!

++CEBαCT VOLGIR++ A veteran of countless battlefields and a staunch traditionalist, Veteran Brother VOLGIR still holds true to the original ideals of the Deathshroud. Although released from the vows of silence and secrecy since the fall of his Legion, VOLGIR will not speak to any outside his brotherhood. Whilst staunchly loyal to his Primarch, VOLGIR is a morose figure constantly lamenting the fall of his own fate and that of his legion. He shows an aloof disdain for his more righteous brethren who have fully embraced the lure of chaos, holding them beneath his contempt. As such his blessings by Grandfather Nurgle extend little beyond the bloating caused by the onset of the Destroyer plague that swept The Endurance. Like his Primarch, VOLGIR is a seething mass of bitterness and hatred, raging against every slight and wrong done to his beloved legion. He is content to let his anger fester and grow, taking his only enjoyment from bringing suffering and misery to those that bring him affront, however slight or inadvertent.

Oh yes! Just picked up a box of these bad boys! And I am very happy they look good in Legion colors! You are certainly knocking these out of the park!

Thanks mate! I knew the new models would look great in Legion colours! I've actually also done Thousand Sons in 30k colours. Really need to motivate myself to finish the Scarab Occult!

Anyway, time for another death guard vehicle! Very excited about weathering this bad boy up!!

I have decided to repurpose my one and only Land Raider - it was originally a Noise Marine rhino, alas it didn't survive the move to Oz intact and it wasn't getting repaired anytime soon for Third Legion purposes!!

...which I quite like! A not super-bloated Nurgle guy, refreshing!

I am afraid I've caught a nasty case of filthy nurgle-itus!

I hope you get well soon. No known cure? Oh... :ohmy.:
