So is the red angel fighting Ka'Bandha supposed to be THE Red Angel? It doesn't really say much about him when they are fighting in Khorne's realm, but having his two favorite demons fight a mini war to see who gets the honor of invading Baal seems like a pretty Khorne thing to do.

Is Mephiston holding a demon inside of him?

Is he a split personality, with Black Rage Insane Calistarius inside his head alongside the "rational" Lord Of Death?

The book really makes it seem like it.

I read Dante and DoB but not Mephiston yet. Maybe its now out of order since I think Mephiston is set before DoB, so I wasn't planning on reading and would appreciate any insight.

Mephiston is still a good read but it won't solve the question about his situation. ;)

It will only add more questions. Maybe the next Mephiston book will help us get some answers. Does it seem to anyone else that Mephiston acts like a junkie pretty often? He injects blood and then nods off for a few hours/days, then comes alive with a surge of energy. There is a scene in one of the books where he is in his Chemic Spheres and his tongue is hanging out of his mouth, his eyes rolled back, slouching in his chair and there is a bunch of used needles at his feet. My first thought was the Lord of Death is a heroin addict

Just bringing this thread to life again as I have to vent. While the story is ok, I wish someone would read these books before they're published.

The Staff of Light/Staff of Life thing is killing me. I've had to put this book down twice now. Page 100. The errors and different ship names are within 3 lines of one another. They would have been on the same line on a computer screen in a word processor. It's infuriating.

Every bit of story on Mephiston makes him more and more awesome, the bits in DoB are great, and I thought Lord of Death was a great insight into his power and character, I haven't read Blood of Sanguinius yet but will soon.

I thought this story was really well told, and in combination with Dante, it really gives great insight into the old Lord Commander and how freaking awesome he is to still be taking names after 1500 years

Yeah I had to laugh at that. So far have enjoyed the Book Really Dig Captain Erwin of the Angels Excelsis . I ordered some pads to be made up  so I can have Him on the table top.:biggrin.:

So I have finally finished reading the book. Crazy stuff in there. I'm kind of conflicted now though. I love the Flesh Tearers and will rarely, if ever, use the named characters. The Flesh Tearers are pretty much 90% Primaris now which is awesome because I love the Primaris line but I am kind of concerned because GW did not release any decent pads for the successor chapters.

I am pretty sure I will be modeling my Flesh Tearers with the Flesh Tearer shoulder pads on the left and the Blood Angel pads on the right in honor of the Blood Angel Legion supposedly being remade at the end of DoB. Gabriel Seth doesn't seem to like the idea of the Primaris much right now but if a future book about them is written, and I think there will be one eventually, I think he will come to understand and appreciate the Primaris and their ability to prevent his chapter from disappearing. Also, I think that Gabriel has a better understanding, appreciation and respect for Dante and his place in the order of things. Hoping to start modeling up my Flesh Tearer 1st Company in the next few months.

I've been trying to scour the thread, but haven't found the reference. Actually, it may not even be here. How many villagers/inhabitants of the various planets of Baal were taken by the BA to help in the defense of the sector? They weren't scouts, potential scouts/recruits I would term them.

Thank you.

Thank you.

All of them, basically. They didn't take the anyone under 10 years or their mothers, but everyone else got a weapon.

Thanks, basically as my "head cannon" develops I want a way to justify some of the stuff I do with my list and on the battlefield. Scouts have been hard hit but then again, there were probably thousands brought up to defend the home worlds, and of those survivors I'm sure many were taken into the 10th Company.

While not in dob, with the amount of baal’s natives turned into scouts after dob there is currently 457 unassigned scouts in the 10th company.

Not sure if this helps but thought it let you know. (The info is on page15 of our current codex)

Guess I should have read the whole codex! 457 only?! We'll need more than that at the rate I'm doing damage to the 10th company!

:(

This is 457 some 40 years after Devastation that the codex is set.

At the end of Devastation, they accept anyone that's a genetic match, and boost the  BA from probably 200 - 300 remaining marines to over 1000, not to mention those given to the successors.

They probably took in over a thousand recruits after DoB.

I noticed something in the book that puzzles me a little bit: At the feast when Erwin is noting the differences amongst the different Sons of Sanguinius it's noted that Captain Bolthus is "Unusually ruddy, his angelic features coarse." ...I thought the Angels Sanguine always kept their faces hidden?
