I think this is the recipe for a lone wolf captain. You can always try and add support (via Sanguinor, Librarian, Corbulo etc) if you wish

Pre-game

  • 1 Captain with Jump Pack, Thunder Hammer, and optional off-hand (e.g. Stormshield, Chainsword, Inferno Pistol)

  • Artisan of War Warlord Trait

  • The Angel’s Wing Relic

  • 1 CP - Death Visions of Sanguinius

  • 1/3 CP - Armoury of Baal (optional)

Get in position

  • 2CP - Forlorn Fury (optional)

  • 2CP - Descent of Angels (optional)

Charge… and fight!

  • 1CP - Red Rampage

  • 1CP - Command Re-roll (optional)

  • 3CP - Honour the Chapter

  • 2CP - Only in Death Does Duty End (optional - if you die)

Captain Smashypants is awesome..but very heavy on CP. I am also considering..

Librarian Dreadnought Smashypants.

Artisian of war gives it a str 10 Dmg 4 weapon.

Red rampage and Quickening gives it 5-9 attacks.

And with wings of sanguinius it can move 19 and charge 2d6+3 in one turn..

You cant use honour of the chapter ..but only in death does duty end still works..

It is not as crazy as captian smasy..but needs no relics and only afew CPs. Also no red thirst..but it is does have a higher strength weapon.:)

Or maybe build both into the army and generally leave the good captain hanging around the firebase handing out re-rolls unless it looks like smash time.

The dread can take up buff duties and perhaps save cp as well =)

I am also thinking both..although they both want artisian of war to be really smashy.. which is a nono..but I guess some play testing is in order.

Dreadnoughts 100% get red thirst as long as your battleforged

I just misread it seems:)... But that just makes the dread libby..even more choppy. If the dread takes artisan the captain could take the relic hammer.

The libby dread also wounds Knights and baneblades on a 2+ compared to the captains 3+.

I've got a couple local people who have Magnus but don't generally play him in friendly games. I fully intend to challenge them to games where they bring him once I'm playing again after the holidays. I'm going to start an honor roll for my captain with a list of his notable kills.

I plan on running both Cap'n Smash and a Libby Dread in most of my lists- I guess it's just a matter of who gets Artisan of War, but I'll have the option to slam CPs down on either one of them depending on the situation/opponent.

This actually sounds like a good use of the points. It's like a pocket switch blade you can pull out when needed. Sure it's 300 pts but they can definitely make points back if necessary.
