Rights of Battle, great book.

Lots of fun and fluffy things in there.

For instance Tyber has the deed "Toe to toe", this lets me get +10 WS and WP when facing a Master Level enemy, the catch is when in squad mode, If a master level enemy is with in my charge distance, I have to make a challenging (+0) Willpower test to not charge them. At GM's discression this test may be ignored, if for example I have to go into the void or underwater to engage them.

It's a bloody bug hunt. ;)

But then nothing beats the classics!

Do we roll for our own information on the stealer xenoform then (shudder)?

Or are we assuming a kind of common basic Lore here ? While I have not specifically aimed my character at this menace, there is a mention in the current Codes zspace Marines that the Iron Hands were involved in a campaign of Exterminatus against stealer infected worlds to slow the advance of Leviathan late M41 (the new dex doesn't give a timeframe though).... should/ could I work that into my background to offer the team a little first hand experience? Or maybe a bonus at rolling Lore?

Akkad has been on a few ships...in a few dark places...I hope I'm playing it right and not letting too much real-world lore bleed into the character - just trying to make him all experienced and grimdark.

As we are playing in 908.M41, there are quite a few "famous" 40k events that haven't happened yet.

There's no Second or Third Tyrannic War - so no Hive Fleet Kraken or Leviathan, just Behemoth.

No Sotha (so Scythes of the Emperor are fine)

No Rynn's World (so Crimson Fists haven't been decimated)

No Thirteenth Black Crusade...

This is a useful 40k M41 timeline so we can think about what we haven't seen.

As to genestealers, I think that the initial Deathwatch training and indoctrination that will have been administered to you all will cover basic knowledge and understanding of the Genestealers - but if you've had any personal experience against them (or whether your Chapter/Company/Clan has) is up to you.

I thought the Novamarines' (and them alone) had Forbidden Lore (Xenos) as part of their "Chapter package" but now, as you've mentioned, everybody has it. Which makes sense, but then renders that particular Novamarines bonus moot. :mellow.:

Anyway, reminds me I haven't used my 1000 XP. Going to do that now. Do we have to run things past you first, Mol, or can I just go ahead and add it to my char sheet?

I dont recall where, but theres mention in the rules that if you gain the same skill multiple times from Character Creation options that instead of being redundant, boost the skill by +10. So, if  Mol allows it, you could have FL(Xenos)+10 instead of the +0 the rest of us have.

SC: Tyber would still know of genestealers, though - if only through some sort of Deathwatch familiarisation. He could easily ask the Captain for advice in facing them and carry off the naive aspect you want?

Idealy, yes. Yes it does.

This is familiar to me too and makes thematic sense, since you're just building on training.

SC: I don't think you need to obviously show your fear, but I do think that Varvost has planted a nagging seed of doubt until you face Genestealers for the first time. How you roleplay that is up to you - whether it makes him cautious or reckless, etc. Also, you can consider how it affects your disposition towards Varvost.

The same goes for all the others - you might have a particular opinion of Varvost based on his treatment of Tyber.

Mol, Vârvost is a ***, but everyone knows one like him:biggrin.:.

I'm thinking Tyber is going to cautious for this mission... He wasn't so much showing fear, but self-doubt for a moment.

Tyber may not like Vârvost, but that shouldn't stop him from being respectful. Vârvost is a senior Astartes to Tyber and a squad mate, sowing conflict in the squad is detrimental to the whole, despite personal opinion... Tyber might be a bit slow to follow or assist him in the future how ever.

Any chance you could remove the colouring from you text outside of the spoiler box in your last post, SC? At the moment it's mint green and impossible to read using the lighter forum theme. Cheers. :tu:

Nah, we'll somehow convince him it's a good idea. That or maybe he goes all Black Rage-y and thinks he's Sanguinius when we confront one.

So what your saying is that youre also dooming me since Im a Sanguinary Priest and I kinda have to look out for and deal with the Rage when no chaplains are present :p

If by deal with you mean Bolt Pistol to the base of the skull, then yes:whistling:

I have a sad feeling some other poor brother will have to die first to convey the gravity of the situation.

We have just only met Varvost and he is already a pain in the ...collective side of the team. No way, I'd kill someone like that off during the first mission if I were GMing this :)

Collateral damage, pretty boy. :P

Thank you kind sir!  I wish I could take credit, but at this point Akkad is actually writing himself....

Tyber is a good fellow too - I am very much enjoying this huge marine suffering from this naivety as opposed to the brashness one would expect.  I am also very much enjoying everyone's roleplay at the moment - I am hoping mine matches the high level we are seeing from everyone.
