Wow, that's all I can say Nine... I'm having problems finding another word to convey my awe of your artful skill.

Thank you, a good practice piece. It's collaged from about 70-80 different images and colourised. I really should learn how to draw at some point...

Some really quality posts from you guys. I had a post planned with the Kill-Team visiting a chapel to make their oaths but in a lot of ways this is more fitting. I thought about it this morning and the idea of using a sword as a makeshift altar is something really evocative, and really aligns with the Space Marines. The Astartes literally swear by their weapons - because their weapons and their ferocious war-spirits are what keep them alive!

So game-wise, and ignoring all the other rulebooks, it seems you have a choice of four oaths - the Oath to the Emperor, the Oath of Loyalty, the Oath of the Astartes and the Oath of Duty. See Slip's post for those. I suppose some of it comes down to which Squad Mode abilities would help you the most against Genestealers - some of you likely know more than I do - but I would be keen for some discussion so I can move the game on today or tomorrow.

Mechanically speaking, while taking into our squad composition, Oath to the Emperor seems the best for us to take, due to the squad mode abilities it allows for... now don't get me wrong, for myself, Solastian and Varvost Oath of Glory is better... but considering that we have 3 tacticals and two devastators with us, having both "fire for effect" and "strong point" are powerful, doubly so with Strong Point allowing for damage re-rolls against a called target on top of +20 to hit...

Me though I'll likely have Tyber in solo mode, as his chapter's solo mode allows him to count as Lightning Reflexes... handy in CQB... as it allows my initiative roll to be +8

On the phone so I can't check everything, but we have three assault, two devastator, two tactical, apothecary and techmarine.

Which rules are you using for the Dragons?

Under custom chapter creation rules in RoB, table 1-19, page 32. I had rolled in the 61-85 range, this gave them "Quick Reactions", when in solo mode each brother is considered to have Lightning reflexes, at rank 3 +10 to dodge tests, rank 5 rapid reaction and rank 7 lets me automatically pass one agility test per game (for apposed tests I am considered to have rolled a 01).

This was in the document that you had asked me send to you, the Dragons are not carbon copies of the Dark Angles, aside from the curse of the primarch they don't use any Dark Angle rules.

If you have any other questions CM, I am happy to answer them.

Yes the oath that is selected applies a benefit to the entire team, as well as unlocking squad mode abilities, if we are in support range to each other and are in squad mode together.

Generally speaking, squad mode abilities are powerful, very powerful, like to the point where they can swing the out come of a fight that might be too much for us otherwise. For example, if I use Strong Point as an example, have it set on one of our Devastators, and he can call out a target as a free action, that target than will eat re-rolls on damage from those with in support range of that Devastator on top of everyone in support range of the Devastator (and the Devastator) getting +20 to BS/WS against that target. They can also use their reaction to make standard attacks against the called target.

You can see how this would be a very powerful ability, using Akkad as an example, a full auto burst at something he;d be pushing an 87 (47BS+20full auto+20 Strong point)to hit before any other to hit mods, this will make it much more likely for him to rack up multiple DoS to make his Heavy Bolter sing, with the re-rolls and tearing he's going to turn even the Brood Lord into pink mist in short order.

On a personal note, after reading up on a few of the grenades in RoB, I've got to remember to requisition some Cryo Grenades next time... Wow are they nasty. 2d10 damage to Toughness for a d5 rounds if the target fails a -40 toughness test for only 18 rec....

Thanks for the heads up!

Since we are tutorialing here, I quite consciously threw in the idea of doing a training run on the ship...even on a well run Imperial ship, there might be some darkhold baddies the team could clear up, Rogue servitors, runaway crew and the like. Something to give us and the team a chance to get to see some live action dice rolling ?

I haven't seen any mention in the Errata but...would it still do its initial 4d10+6 Damage too O_o?

Yup,  nothing changed between RoB and the errata for RoB weapons in regards to the Cryo Grenades. They are down right brutal.... also some fun things you can do with the inhalation grenade too, provided you can think outside the box a bit... and are a bit unscrupulous.

A single tear of pure manliness rolled down Akkad's cheek.

"Beautiful" he whispered.

Depends on if my Chapter Squad Mode Ability rode with it - Mol and I have cooked something up to add +1 to my RoF.  This gives me a potential 8 hits on a target Horde, with +1D5 Magnitude damage from Unrelenting Devastation.

How are you getting 8? Max RoF on a HB is 6 (7 with your squad mode ability) in the errata, you'd need to find an extra one some where...

I support this idea.
