Thanks for the update!

Since I wrote this before the update I wanted to give out a general idea of Sabaan's actions. I'll update the OOC this evening now that I have better idea if the options and use of the servoarm.

Thanks, A.T. - one annoyance with the Deathwatch Rulebook is that most of the rules are pasted from Dark Heresy, ignoring the fact that Space Marines negate 50% of them. I missed the True Grit rule and that's something that will come in handy later.

With regards to the dodge, I was following the rules on P238, 'Dodging Auto-Fire' - However I was mixing up the rules with Semi-Auto Burst slightly. I will endeavour to correct this (and work in your favour) when you're fighting the Tyranid menace!

A.T. - I assume the free attack is because Greysight leaves combat - but with Atratus being knocked back 5 metres, can that still happen?

They free attack happens when Greysight leaves combat, so before he shoots (as he can't shoot in combat).

The defense against the 'step back and shoot' is to use the free attack to grapple and release preventing the target from moving away, but as you've already played out Greysights turn i've just gone with a regular attack.

I split yesterday's update so that Atratus's free attack features properly.

Round 13 starts with Solastion attacking Sabaan.

Xin - you need to roll a WS test to see if Solastion's attacks can be parried, which will determine your actions.

Things are on a knife-edge here - it could go either way!

Posted my Attempt to Parry.

Oh...@A.T. and I am afraid that unless I am getting a free chainsword from somewhere that bonus doesn't apply. Or does that apply to a combat blade as well?

Sadly the Astartes combat knife lacks the balanced quality....

I've explained in the main thread, it's because Sabaan wasn't parrying, but rather attempting not to get deceived by Solastion's masterful feint.

I'm hoping right now that Solastion and Sabaan put each other out of action, after which Greysight and Atratus can attempt to resolve which team wins!

Apologies A.T., I had missed your post in spoilers and have updated to include that. Once we know how Sabaan reacts then we can end round 13.

Long day at the hospital tomorrow so I'm likely to not have too much more free time today - I will try to update as much as possible.

You've done yeoman's service Mol, enjoyed the rapid fire updates now the "survivors are toe-to-toe" :)

Will be thinking of you and the lady tomorrow Brother. (Bangs fist to chest).

Good luck in there CM, all the best to you and your lady.

Ok, I think I got the feint thing, right.

Maybe it's a reaaaaaally well made knife? ;)

While Sabaan can not use a reaction to dodge or parry...is there still a reaction attack by the servo-arm possible?

Otherwise, Sabaan will indeed use a fate point to no longer be stunned.

As for moving things along, I am also graciously offering my permission to just rule that Solastion and Sabaan are then taking each other out at the same time in a suitably cinematic fashion ;p

BTW, I will also be out of town from tomorrow to Saturday. I'm bringing my mobile along and will check if there is any useable WLAN on site but may not be up to speed over the next couple of days.

I think I misread who was hitting who in an earlier turn with a chainsword.

--------

Everyone's out of hitpoints (and Atratus a bit lucky to have made it this far). If you lot hadn't of hidden the servo skull somewhere on the upper decks i'd suggest we all take each other out... with Atratus heroically forcing his armour the last few inches to touch the two skulls together of course :p

You cannot dodge or parry, but in theory you could use your servo-arm as a reaction. Even if you couldn't, you could use it as your attack on your turn.

I would say that this is right - as the Reaction is just a type of action, with Parry or Dodge being options for that action.  The Squad Modes for example alter the range of choices allowed by Reaction (shoot, move, etc) so it makes sense.

MR.

Well technically, if both servo skulls are in the red zone, doesn't team Solastion win?

I mean as per the rules:

GM: -Stuff-

The servo-skulls will take up a position in the two side rooms, the ones you started. Solastion is "team red", and Sabaan "team blue" - you win by bringing both servo-skulls together in your base. You can carry a servo-skull in a single hand (or throw it, I guess...)

-more Stuff-

I would be totally ok with this fight ending in a stalemate meaning that, despite our experience/inexperience, luck, skill, etc. Both teams were perfectly matched for eachother.

I like our two specialist knocking each other out. I like that a lot :)

And is this a bad time to come out of the woods that the original plan was to have you engaged OVER THERE while we deliver our skull to your end zone and win the game for you sorry lot of close combat glory chasers.

But having the whole killteam blowing each other up in the end in some sort of Draw is quite beautiful in it's own way. Especially as it developed naturally over gameplay rather then some heavy handed sort of Cut scene :)

Whatever turn this takes in the end: Well played, Gentlemen. Well played!

Not too sure they were to be fair - you had all the fast movers whilst we had all the shooters - bar Atratus who covered a bit of both and Greysight who covered a bit of both, you are hammer, we are anvil.  We would always get out-manoeuvred, you would always get out-gunned.  Castling up was the only way we could narrow your advantage in that huge cargo hold.

Ultimately, I suppose Vaidan decides!

Whoever wins, the genestealers lose...

That's some Imperial Truth right there.

Murphy's Law - no plan survives contact with the enemy. I agree, well played everyone, enjoyable to read and I think we have stolen the title of longest continuous combat in Deathwatch.  Ever.

Kudos to the players, kudos to the GM, hoped our plans didn't give you headaches.
