Tyriks
After going back into hibernation for a bit while I dabbled in some light heresy, I'm back on my Necrons for a campaign my group is doing. Started working on Warriors yesterday and just picked up a ton of Martian Ironcrust and Ryza Rust for bases. Pics when I finish basing the first squad, also need to find a good high gloss varnish so they retain their luster. Tyriks
Bases are still drying, but I did say I'd have pics. I'm using the shoulder pads to mark squads - one squad will have left, one right, one both. I'll try drybrushing these once they dry and then try some varnishes. Should have ten done by the time I go to sleep. Tyriks
I've been working on a counts-as Imotekh. I've also been rearranging my Dynasty's hierarchy a bit - I intended to have the Dynasty be a mix of enemies of Rome and cosmic horrors, but I neglected the horror. So, here is Vodekha Vol-Nagath, First Scythe of the Eternal, the Doomsday Queen. Still WIP but getting close. When her Tomb began to awaken, there was a problem. It only woke a tiny fraction of the Tomb before the city sized engine automating the awakening exploded. It would take months to awaken the rest of the Tomb. Vodekha found herself on a feudal world whose people were mostly overlooked by the Imperium for being worthless. However, the explosion was massive and alerted a neighboring planet something was amiss. They sent troops to investigate. Vodekha interacted with the natives, inciting them to rise up and fight the Imperial Army now on its way. She told them the men from the sky had no right to steal their resources or their people, and how they could be free from this tyranny. She taught them to fight and how to beat their 'superior' enemy. When the Guard landed, they were assaulted across the continent, unable to defeat the primitives they had so often looked down on. Their camps would be raided, they would find their patrols slaughtered in the dense forests. They tried to pin the savages down and wipe them out, but could never catch them. Finally, the guerrillas could flee no more, but turned to fight, having winnowed their enemies enough over several long months of fighting to think they had a chance in open battle. Unfortunately, this had just been a ploy to buy time. The Tomb was now ready to rise, and within hours both weary armies were slaughtered to a man. Now, Vodekha is the highest ranking general in the Dynasty. The Phaeron does not concern himself with ruling, so he leaves things in her capable hands. I did a TON of highlighting on the silver before applying contrast - for some reason it didn't show up well on some parts (the orb on her Gauntlet of Flame doesn't show it at all, not sure why). I decided to try painting her base separately so I can get at everything. NTaW
Loving how shiny your army is. You'll have to wear sunglasses when the whole army is out  Will you be doing bios for all your characters? I feel like this is the first you've shared but my memory is....well, less than eidetic. Tyriks
I have bios for a lot of them, but I don't think I have posted any before. I tend to come up with them, not write it down anywhere and forget the bulk of it so I want to break that trend. With regards to being shiny, wait till I take some pics of my gloss coated stuff... it might be too shiny. I think I like the effect but I need to see more of it together to decide. Tyriks
I have been sick the past few days so I didn't get much done until last night. Started painted my third Scythe, did 5 Gauss Immortals and 2 characters. Right now my plan is to try to get all my troops and characters at least painted, then I will start basing everything. This is in part because I haven't enjoyed basing much so I want to put it off but I also haven't found a good brush on matte varnish to protect the bases once they're done so I don't want to risk damaging them too much. This is Abholos Vaevecton (counts as Zahndrekh). I also painted his sister Ghutanai (Obyron) yesterday but apparently didn't take a pic, I'll upload that later. I have to say, I am not a fan of this model. I can't reach a lot of stuff behind his cloak and staff so he has more silver than he otherwise would. I will gladly chop him up when he gets a plastic update. Abholos was the youngest of 12 children in his family, and was never taken seriously by his siblings. They would fight brutally amongst themselves, even as children, and it was only their fathers interventions that kept them all alive long enough to go through biotransference. Abholos didn't bother defending himself and so he was seen as too weak to be a threat. His older sister Ghutanai occasionally would intercede for him, but he never had the strength to stand up for himself. When the Vaevectons awoke from the Great Sleep, their father was dead in his tomb. Civil war broke out between the two strongest siblings, with all but Abholos taking a side. He was such a non threat that he was not sought after by either side, nor was he attacked. He relayed information to both sides and urged them continuously to end the fighting, believing their tomb world would be stronger with all of them working together. Eventually, with no clear victor, both sides grew weary of the infighting. They agreed to meet at his small fortress, the only territory he had ever held. It sat in a valley underneath a massive mountain. The siblings arrived, escorted by their most unwavering loyal soldiers, but all soldiers not part of the family waited outside - should there be any treachery, no one would escape alive. Abholos gave a speech about strength in unity and learning from the mistakes of the past. However, when he reached his conclusion, he told his siblings that because of their infighting they could not be trusted with the future of their world. The entire location exploded, killing all the family and all their most loyal soldiers waiting outside. The entire valley was buried in a landslide from the mountain, ensuring any survivors would be buried long enough for Abholos to cement his rule and deal with them. It is uncertain how Abholos and his sister Ghutanai survived - crypteks wonder if they used proxy bodies or transferred their consciousness after the fact. It is also unclear whether Ghutanai was in on the plan or if she merely saw that now was not the time to challenge him. What is clear is that the tomb world rallied entirely behind Abholos and remains unified in their obedience to this day. Tyriks
Not much exciting progress last night, but I did get more done. The Scythe is almost done, just need to do the guns I think. I'll be out of town for a wedding so I'm hoping to finish it up tonight before I leave. Put some finishing touches on Vodekha and glued her to the base. This picture completely lost all the drybrushing on her base for some reason. I really need to get/build a photo booth... I might paint her spine the lighter purple. It seems like that back plate needs a little more color variety, but I'm undecided. Maybe dark purple will work better since there's that orb on top. Here's the picture I forgot to take of Ghutanai. Originally she had a lot more of the light purple to match Abholos (shoulders, head stripe)but without the cloak to darken the model overall she looked too bright so I went over it with the Shyish. Tyriks
I have been very delinquent in updating this thread. I have a lot more stuff painted, still more to do but not nearly so much as before. I don't always feel like there's a point in posting pics of, say, a third or fourth squad of Immortals, so that hasn't helped either. But I figure with so many units about to pile up for me, I'd better get this thread going again. Today I was adding some detail to my Tesseract Vault. I can't tell if I rushed it out in time for ETL or if I just wasn't confident yet with the contrast paints, but I skipped a lot of bits I felt should be purple, so I was painting them when I noticed one of the struts holding a corner on was wobbling. I moved it a little to see how loose it really was and the whole thing snapped off. So after spending a couple hours on it today, I am further from calling it done, haha. I think I can fix it; if not, I might just make terrain out of it. The model is honestly so ungainly I don't like playing with it. I need to take stock of everything left to paint. I did a quick pass today while deciding what to paint next, and I think I have some Tomb Blades, Deathmarks, Wraiths, and maybe Lychguard left to paint. A ton of stuff needs sealed, or needs bases painted, maybe I can finally buy some clear coat now. I do have maybe 40 warriors and some scarabs I was going to paint that have, obviously, become much less of a priority now. Before biotransference, there was a Lord. He did not hold a lofty position, but he was friends with the man who would become Phaeron Eternokh, and they grew up together. The Lord was well liked, and trusted. One day he decided he deserved to be Phaeron. After all, it was his advice that made the Phaeron successful, was it not? So he planned a coup. He orchestrated some of those close to Eternokh to take him hostage at the Lord's signal, while he was away from the defenses of his throne room. The Lord sent the signal, calmly walked into the Phaeron's throne, and seated himself. He later discovered, while being tortured, that no signal had ever been received, but never discovered why. The Phaeron was a suspicious young man, and the Lord was the only one he had fully trusted, so this betrayal cut him deep. He kept the Lord chained up for years, occasionally parading him around the other nobles as a reminder. His name was stricken from all records, and his family all killed while he was forced to watch. When biotransference came, the Phaeron offered the Lord a chance to redeem himself, to submit to his rule and be given a new body and be made a Lord again. He gladly agreed, but awoke to find his body could not disobey an order from any of the Phaeron's court. It was molded to look like a Phaeron's body, but with the ornamentation tarnished and dull. His name had been erased from the memories of everyone besides his own memory and the Phaeron's, and he was forbidden from ever uttering it again. He was now named Ghall, or trash in the tongue of younger races. For a time he was used as entertainment, being forced to humiliate himself over and over. However, after hibernation, Eternokh had no use for such distractions, and Ghall was ordered to charge the nearest enemy over and over until it killed him. He has now spent hundreds of years on a sisyphean suicide mission, constantly seeking out new enemies and ramming into them over and over, seeking to die and yet unable to. So, I painted him awhile ago, and meant to post pics before, but didn't have a backstory for him so I kept putting it off. If I field a CCB it's always as a distraction unit that rushes into combat and dies (usually much faster than it should) so I decided to make that part of his fluff. I think I need to touch a few things up but I can't remember right now. It can wait until I fix this damned Vault, I guess. MithrilForge
Hey Tyriks, nice CCB there I can't wait to see what the Skorpekh destroyers look like in your purple scheme !! Sorry to hear about the Vault I'm glad I didn't get one, it's one thing to put large and grandiose models together and paint them, but to have them being unable to safely put em down on the table without fear of damaging them is a bit naff … That would be one hell of a huge terrain piece though !! NTaW
I'm trying to recover from hearing about you turning a Tesseract Vault into a terrain piece Is there any way you can drill in some supports (pinning but thicker) and use plastic glue for a superior bond on the break? I really like your backstory and paint job on the CCB. I enjoy writing my bad decisions into the backstory for my characters as well and it has really led to some funny situations on the battlefield, both victorious and utter failures. Tyriks
Thanks, guys! Yeah, I won't turn it into terrain until after everything opens up and I can get some heavier duty drill bits/rods to try fixing it. Currently I only have stuff small enough to affix Lychguard wrists so I don't that that'll help much! I'm actually at a point where I don't have much left to paint. It's weird. I have a lot of bases I need to do still so that'll probably be my focus for a bit. Unless I have overlooked stuff. I do have some random stuff here and there that needs more primer or has damaged bits I need to fix but lack of supplies is the issue there. Thankfully I should have enough Martian Ironcrust to do everything I have. Tyriks
Got some virtual hobby time with the boys on Friday, and made some progress. These were already painted and sealed, just needed bases done. Now I guess I need to seal the bases but I don't know what I'm doing that with yet. These I painted everything but the shoulders yesterday. Still need to drybrush the bases and then touch up a little and seal. This had been partially painted for months, so I finished it up also. I really think if I keep this up I can have everything done before the new stuff comes out (unless I'm forgetting models somewhere, which I keep feeling I might be). NTaW
Keep up with the momentum! I've been torn with my Deathmarks specifically (not that I'm doing anything painting wise that is) whether to keep them with my old scheme or use them to test out the new Contrast scheme I've been developing (or even to give them a bit of a unique scheme to show their separation from the Dynasty). Your army here has been a large influence on my decision to move to Contrast with how good those colours look over silver and how many dang models you crank out whenever you get a chance. I'm over here painting one model in a month going "good job, man" Edited June 7, 2020 by NTaW Tyriks 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/343560-vosogoth-dynasty/page/6/#findComment-5537018 Share on other sites
Dread
Very nice! I love the colors, very catchy scheme. I bet they look great on the battlefield. It's funny, I've been cranking out pointy ears throughout this lock down but every list I make for our first game back, hopefully in a few weeks, has been my Necrons . Maybe I need to stop looking at everybody else's and get my necrons done, hmm? Great stuff going on here, keep at it.
