NTaW
Cool! I have used BSI glue exclusively for years now, and though I haven't used the debonder myself I've seen it presented as a solution frequently in hobby groups. Hopefully it helps make this task easier for you Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/343560-vosogoth-dynasty/page/8/#findComment-5969562 Share on other sites
Tyriks
So, the debonder came and I tried it out. I did get twenty something bases fixed. A handful I didn't get to yet, but there's a few (I think 8) that don't seem any closer to coming free. I'm not sure why, but I'll have more time to take another crack at it tomorrow. Even if it doesn't work at all on the remaining ones, it will have saved me a ton of work! Edit: just to add, the debonder can damage paint, but it also softens the plastic a little. For the underside of bases, that's been fine, but if you ever use it on a model be careful! Tyriks
Been making slow progress on a batch of HQs, mostly modified or converted. Still some cleanup and probably details I've missed. The Skorpekh guy was supposed to be an Overlord that would follow some Skorpekhs to buff them, but since that's not an option I don't know what I'll use him for. Probably just an Overlord. Of course now I'll have something like 8 Overlords l. The two Crypteks will probably just be whichever version I decide I want to run multiples of but don't have the models for, I guess. I also realized I needed to finish 3 more Skorpekhs before my game yesterday so I rushed these guys through. I think I need to drybrush the bases a bit more - they look good when I'm painting them but a bit blander than the rest on the table. Still lots to do but I think I finally figured out a scheme for Tyranids so I'll probably be splitting my time between the two armies. Tyriks
Finally got around to wrapping up the converted characters and adding flock to a handful of bases. I also finally started building my Flayed Ones. Got one sprue with that Kill Team box and never touched them, then bought another box. These are the least fun models I can recall building. Not necessarily the hardest, that'd probably have to be the Seraptek or Fire Raptor or something, but with those you get a massive showcase model out of it, not 10% of a unit. My hands are just too big for these bits. Even though I already own them I'm considering hunting for a suitable proxy file to print something else just to avoid building the rest. But in the meantime I'm making myself build one a day (assuming I have hobby time that day) until I finish up. Tyriks
That Canoptek Court is VERY good. Played a 1000pt game this morning and it was lopsided. I had No Man's Land in my Matrix almost all game so I always had rerolls. Though my opponent made a lot of mistakes (his second game of 10th, so that's understandable) and brought his Orks which is maybe the perfect matchup for my list (20 Tesla Immortals so Boys are hard to beat as a target). But still, I wound up rerolling hits and wounds so easily with those Immortals that even the charges he made didn't go well for him. Cynosure of Eradication is great, getting to infiltrate a unit of Immortals was also awesome. The Tomb Sentinel still has yet to wound with its gun after I think 5 games now, so I really need to shelf it, but it just looks so cool I keep bringing it. The Translocation Shroud in a unit of Tesla Immortals with a Plasmancer was very effective. I imagine I'll be bringing that combo a lot. I want a second Translocation Shroud but I hate having identical characters so I am trying to think of how to represent that effect on another model. This game was lopsided enough I may try to use all the other detachments before I consider the Canoptek Court again. It was fun once, but I don't want my opponents to hate playing it. I have been hobbying like crazy lately but it has mostly been fixing old mistakes or rebasing stuff, so not much to really show off. But here's some quick rough pics of the new Overlord and Imotekh: Edited December 16, 2023 by Tyriks Firedrake Cordova, MithrilForge, NTaW and 1 other 3 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/343560-vosogoth-dynasty/page/8/#findComment-6009875 Share on other sites
MithrilForge
They look great, But I'm really torn on them though... For me that's like $130.00 worth of models... I can never justify the cost of single Characters anymore (even ones as nice as these ). you've made em look great though !! Tyriks
To base my Necrons, I've been using Vallejo Black Lava texturedrybrushed with ProAcryl Bright Neutral Gray. I bought a tub of it in 2020 (maybe before, but I started using it in 2020). Well, my giant tub is almost out, and I haven't found it for the past 6 months or so. I don't know if its out of production or just hard to find, but the only options I've seen are charging 3-4 times the price it should be. So, I've been looking for other options. I tried AK Interactive's asphalt but it is super flat, as in no texture. It drybrushed so poorly as a result that the final result was vastly darker than what I have been using. I tried a few times to really lay it on thick to get more texture but it didn't help much. So, I tried Vallejo White Pumice on a few empty bases and painted over it. The best match was to just paint it black and then drybrush it as normal, but that took a lot longer than I wanted it to. I ended up using Black Templars contrast over the white and liking that. It's not a perfect match for sure, it reads a bit warmer than the old stuff, but it's easy and quick and the detail of the texture shows up well. I don't think itd be noticable it doesn't match unless I have one right next to the old ones. Here it is on some Wraiths, the first actual unit I've used it for. I'm going to keep what I have of the old stuff so if I have to add to a unit that already has those bases they'll all match. Other than these, I've been very busy on Necrons (though not great at taking pictures). Every week for the last month or two I have rushed through some unit I wanted to use in a game that week, so I've knocked a lot off my to-do list. I am moving my Necrons into a new case, which I want to put some lights in, so I'll try to take a picture of the finished collection when I get that done. In the meantime I might take a break from painting Necrons for a week or two. I might try to rush through another unit of Lokhusts first though. It's still on Vallejo's site and is quite available in the UK (including Amazon), although it does appear to have been re-branded from "Stone Texture" to "Diorama FX" during Vallejo's wider re-brand. Hm, odd. When I search for that new name it brings up Vallejo's site and then a bunch of places selling the old one but out of stock. No one around here has been able to stock Vallejo stuff very consistently since the pandemic started, it seems. I was surprised to see there was already a second wave of Xpress since we just got the first wave in late summer, I think. I don't think any FLGS near me has had any new Vallejo stock since Xpress came out so maybe that will be coming soon. Next time there is new stock I'll need to load up on everything I use, apparently! Firedrake Cordova
Oof, sorry to hear that. We had some difficulties here during the pandemic, but things have been back to normal the last year or two. Hopefully things pick up soon Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/343560-vosogoth-dynasty/page/8/#findComment-6012122 Share on other sites

So I guess my Wraiths will be the odd ones out here!
