New Knight Castellan Revealed!

Wait what? Canis Rex is not up for next week? That is genuinely surprising

EDIT:

"The valiant Freeblade Sir Hekhtur, and his Knight Preceptor steed Canis Rex, will be available later in the year as part of a dual kit that also builds the Knight Preceptor (not to mention every other variant of Questoris-class Knight)."

So that means he's going have 5 sprues then, since he needs the full Warden sprue for that to be a true statement

Knights do weirrrrrrrd things to GW's profits. They're really impactful items historically (great for us, and the reason why we above others have actually got new kits...), I'm guessing they're deliberately spreading out the releases more than normal to take advantage of this effect (and possible to allow our wallets to recharge between waves).

I think they're saving him for some other release or possibly a campaign. They obviously have a tight release schedule and everything is planned way in advance so there is a clear reason for him being released later rather than now.

At the same time i can't see him being pushed too much above the castellan valiant kits in terms of pricing... but find it hard to believe yet another sprue will just be an additional +5 quid...

The current difference between the Paladin/Errant and Warden/Gallant/Crusader kits is 10GBP/17USD for the extra sprue, so I wouldn't be surprised if Canis Rex has an increase of a similar amount.

Seems a sensible bet to me, definitely.

I just hesitate to think they'll charge more for CR than they will the new Dominus variants.

At the same time the CR kit will have 2 more sprues than those, so fair enough? The design of the sprues of the Dominus has made making future variants of those a cinch, just switch out 1 sprue for a new loadout.

Speaking of the dominus sprues, there's still that weird seam above the castellans head that is pretty much the only thing I don't like about the kit. It wasn't a master vs production model issue, as we theorized way back, since its still there on the sprue. What gives?:huh.:

Just bad design I suppose :/

I'm far from an expert, but I suspect like many industries things get noticed late in the development cycle, and time means they just get left as they are.

You see similar things on the FW kits. The Knights are typically superb pieces of Resin design, but the Hell Blade / Hell Talon are awful in comparison, and need quite a lot of work on the purchasers part with green stuff etc.

OK so I'm getting mixed interpretations from different reviewers, does an Aux LoW knight get a house trait and/or access to strats?

No... I don't believe so buddy.

Lances only if you want the Traits etc sadly. From what I've read, we only unlock all the goodness from fielding a Lance - otherwise we're running a standard Knight.

You could use Freeblade rules in an aux detachment though.

So I've just sort of taken in how good Cawl's wrath is. Hot damn.

And I can't take it! :sad.:

Counts as a different house just makes me feel dirty too, but I can't really see myself wanting another relic. It makes a lackluster weapon (that I have to take) great.

Average 4 Damage standard to a Landraider, 8 if overcharged...

It's alright. It's an improvement certainly, but I dunno if I'm seeing it as anything like an auto take. Small targets the damage is wasted, large ones... well you have the much better Volcano Lance right next to it.

I think I'd still prefer a more consistent, less swingy weapon entirely in that slot.

Did we ever find out what the lance relic does?

Not that I've seen as yet. One to watch for sure.

I think my favourite of the ranged weapons so far is Traitors Pyre... that thing is so good. I'd just love to take it on anything but the Valiant (sorry, I'm being very hard to please!)

I don't think there is a relic Volcano Lance, I watched a breakdown of everything last night and it wasn't on there.

Stands to reason that there was one relic per Dominus Chassis (Conflag Cannon/ Plasma Decimator).

I was ALL for the Valiant but that Plasma Relic has got me thinking, not to mention the Harpoon while awesome, is super un-reliable - needs an extra rule.

I think saying the Plasma's output against a Landraider is an unfair picture, you'll be shooting the VL at that for a lot more damage while the plasma uses it's S8 -4 2D to ruin any medium infantry/ vehicles it chooses. Hardly any reason to overcharge it either at that point too.

The lance rule only does two things. Let's you make a model in a SHD a character if battleforged, and no cp from SHD unless its three big knights. Nothing I saw to prevent you using household rules.

As for the plasma I'd rather stick to imperial knights and just make it hawkshroud and give it their warlord trait. +1 against a target of your choice so no over heat and hit on 2s on an enemy super heavy.

That's just it though, number of shots is killing you there. 2 damage is no better than 1 vs an MEQ, and you could simply overcharge the basic version vs 2 wound infantry - 3 wound infantry is quite a rarity still, so that's a seriously narrow application. 'Tis why I picked a bigger target - you can see the wound potential that much more clearly.

I'd really rather have had a focused anti-infantry weapon than the RFBC of plasma. Tends to be jack of all trades, master of none you know?

There were some specific examples given where you could take 3x Armigers for example and get CP, but not any traits because they weren't in a Lance.

'Knight Lances: If your army is Battle-forged, select one model from every Imperial Knights detachment. Those models gain the Character keyword. If you have at least three of Dominus and/or Questoris class knights in the detachment in any combination, you gain the listed Command Benefits'

Dunno... everything is being so badly worded and inconsistent in the reviews :/
