Why is the Stormtalon pilot green? For contrast, so he's easily seen when the cockpit canopy is mounted in place?

The idea is that the light from the Stormtalon's screens throws light at the pilot, so he appears green.

The green light would actually have a completely different effect on red armor. Red armor would absorb most of the green light and the result would be between a really dark green and completely black, except for the areas where specular reflection happens. :happy.:

Physics aside, the effect looks really nice! Artistic freedom is definitely OK for creating such a nice looking models, especially in the world of 40k where normal rules of physics don't apply :biggrin.:

Thanks for that information Kaese! This I hadn't found in my searches. I'll think about it. However I'm glad that the light reflected from the red apple actually appears green. So the green glow is still valid in a way for armor with some sheen... Good food for thought!

Interesting thought that...

I guess you could paint him red, airbrush the core glow area with white and then do a broader pass with a transparent green. If you really wanted to do all that on a pilot :-)

Not like I can talk - I’ve fully detailed rhino interiors that have never been opened.

Traditional brush only! :D

But it's there and you know it :P

Thanks Bjorn! :smile.:
As I have reported in the ETL Outpost thread, 2nd Vow is completed:

And th photo-spam incoming.
The HQ: Captain along with Librarius emissaries, one of whom has recently returned from the Long Watch (and didn't have the time to re-arrange his armor properly)

Hmm, in this light the Crux Terminatus came out pinkish. They are not... I will find better light..

And not-so-ancient Heavy Support element:

I've run out of decals and didn't have time to free-and something on him. :ermm:
I'm currently thinking whether I'm able to make another ETL vow in the coming 9 days before I'm off on holiday. However I will continue work on all those guys after that. Apart from the chapter insignia, also the scrolls, lights and sensoria need some attention.

My final ETL VI vow - the 10th Company scout bikers.

These are still very nice models even after all those years since they were first released. It's also fantastic that in 8th edition they can use ALL the guns they have in the sprue :biggrin.:

A little glimpse to what they looked like just before the work:

med_gallery_105306_14251_1726079.jpg

I bought them almost as you see them. The guy in the middle was missing an arm, so I glued a spare one I had from the bolter scout with a minor addition of a plastic piece to move it a little to the side. a magnet for the hand is already in place and the hammer from the the Vanguard kit is sitting nicely in the axe-hand from the Assault marines kit.

I also drilled holes in to the bolters, launcher and even one to the shotgun's barrels

The Sergeant:

The specialist scout:

(with AGL, shotgun and the cluster mine placing device)

The regular scout:

And a little group photo:

I still need to give them proper Chapter and Company insignia.

It's been a while and I'm slowly coming back to modelling and painting after a little break forced by post-ETL-VI-real-life. I've started working through the Knight sprues planning where I will put magnets.
But that aside, I have also begun working on the Aggressors as I got 3 sets of those from the Tooth&Claw sets. I've already said that they are awful models in terms of conversion potential. Unless you are prepared to green-stuff the ammo belts. If I get desperate (and I just might) I will do just that.
For now I have decided to build first 3 using the manual with only superficial changes.

Here is the sergeant with added Centurion head (barely managed to fit it inside the hood), the arm-pit shield from the Primaris Upgrade sprue and the spare shoulder pad from Blood Angel Terminator set.
Oh, and I have chosen the chalice-thing to be dangling from his belt. I must say that I was very happy to find that one in the basic sprue. It needed some trimming with the knife of course. However thanks to this I managed to get at least the feeling that I'm converting something
med_gallery_105306_14251_1234806.jpg

Another thing little project is the Kill Team.
For this I have chosen 3 Intercessors and a Sergeant that I've painted for the ETL VI. Sarge got new power sword (had chainsword before). Additionally I have added a HB devastator (Tactical Marine Gunner) and built Reiver Sergeant and regular Reiver. Here is how they look at the moment:

I've decided to hold on a bit with painting in order to join the RTS as part of the Golden Host. To this end I have dug out a beautiful TDA Chaplain model from my Pile of Shame

med_gallery_105306_14251_47541.jpg
I have begun working on this fellow some time ago (2-3 years): built a base (shattered stone plates made of plastic), basecoated, started highlighting the armor, started working on the scroll,... I can't really remember why I didn't finish him :blush.: And this is such a great model!

Anyway, the plan is to repaint the black armor adding a little bit of blue to the black. This way highlighting with blues will look much better. I haven't decided on the color of the helmet lenses yet. Original idea was for them to be red in order to tie the guy better into the red ranks of his charges. I'll probably stick with that although the idea of a cold, merciless blue also crossed my mind.

Wraithlord
5-man Dark Reapers squad
3 Jetbikes

+Harlequins Patrol Detachment+
Troupe Master
Solitaire
7(?)-man Troupe

This was supposed to end with 1501pts

Mission was "Big guns never tire" with "Search and Destroy" deployment. Lots of ruins on the board providing ample cover and LoS blocks. We placed 4 objectives (one in each quarter of the table) which would count at the end of the game.

Deployment:

I deployed 2 Devastator units (2xHB/2xMM and LC/PC) along with a regular Captain and the Ancient in the ruins deep in my deployment zone with the Intercessors in front of them in cover ready to grab an objective in my quarter when the time came. On my right flank I placed my last devastator unit (2xLC) out of sight of the enemy with a supporting Razorback (also out of sight) to my far right I deployed shooty scouts behind cover in good position to grab another objective. My left flank was occupied by another Razor and the Scout bikes. Choppy scouts were deployed far forward on another objective and behind some trees. These were in good position to put pressure on the enemy turn 1.
Last but not least, Captain Smashio was deployed as much forward as possible out of sight with Rhino and it's cargo close on his heels.

My opponent deployed the Wraithlord aggressively forward in the ruins (managed to hid him well from my Dev's sights) with 2 squads of Dire Avengers, Eldrad, Warlock, Jetbikes and Harlequins closely behind. Dark Reapers were in his backfield on top of some high ruins with Farseer below them and Solitaire and Hemlock in close proximity. Last unit of Dire Avengers deployed in the ruins on my left flank guarding an objective marker in my opponents quarter.

Despite having more drops, I managed to finish placing my units first by putting Mephiston and Veterans inside the Rhino. I won the who-goes-first roll and my opponent failed to seize initiative. He also chose not to use the +1 Cover stratagem.

The game:
Turn 1: Searching for opportunities

-I forgot to FF my Captain Smashio, but he still managed to get within striking distance of the Wraithlord. Rhino disgorged it's lethal cargo and moved forward as well to position itself creating a LoS block for the following Mephiston&Co. 2xLC Devs moved forward to upper floor of a ruined building to get LoS on my opponents army. Supporting Razor moved out of cover as well. On my right flank, shooty scouts moved into the ruins claiming objective. On my left Choppy scouts moved through the woods to threaten Dire Avengers in the ruins on a objective. Scout bikes advanced to support them, but couldn't get LoS through the woods.
-In the psychic phase Mephiston was denied his Wings, but got Quickening which wouldn't help much as he was unable to reach anything in the charge phase.
-Shooting was sporadic as most of the Eldar were out of sight. LC Devs that moved managed to put 2 wounds on the Hemlock though and something managed to plink a wound off the Wraithlord (probably the Rhino :biggrin.:). Razorback on the left flank killed 3 Dire Avengers in the ruins in preparation for the Scouts' charge
-Captain Smashio successfully charged the Wraithlord (would be needing a 6 on the charge roll befor the FAQ2. As it was, he needed an 8 to navigate the ruins) and Choppy Scouts managed their charge against the Dire Avengers as well without losses. Captain reduced the Wraithlord to 2 wounds and managed his own saves in return. Scouts killed another 2 Avengers with no losses and surrounded the remaining Exarch who refused to run.

-Eldar movement surprised me - 2 squads of Dire Avengers moved past the Wraithlord and positioned themselves in some ruins and cover almost directly in front of my left flank Razoback. Hemlock moved to the center of the field bearing on the LC Devs in the ruins on my right flank and debuffing Ld for them, Captain Smashio and Mephiston. The Harlequin Troupe along with Eldrad, Warlock and Jetbikes moved away toward my shooty scouts, keeping some ruins between themselves and my right flank Razor. I thought they would all fall on  my Captain's back like locust, but no. Dark Reapers shuffled forward to get a better angle, while Solitaire moved to my left to support Eldar's crumbling right flank (Exarch surrounded by Choppy Scouts).
-Psychic phase was unsurprisigly dominated by the Eldar casting lots of buffs on themselves. I reserved my deny rolls for things to threaten my Smashio Captain and rightly so - first Eldrad tried to debuff his Ld even more (I succeeded) and then he Mind-War'ed him (I failed to deny). I was lucky however and lost only 1 wound in the process...
-Eldar's shooting, however I feared it, was unimpressive with Hemlock and Reapers combining to kill 2 marines, Cherub and Sergeant in the Devastator squad leaving 2 LC-operators still alive and dangerous.
-In the charge phase Solitaire charged Choppy Scouts and killed only 2 despite his astounding 8 attacks.
-Fight phase saw the Wraithlord finally destroyed (First Blood and additional point for a Heavy Support choice destroyed!). Choppy scouts split their attacks hoping to slay the Exarch and at least wound the Solitaire, but they only managed to wound the Exarch. Fortunately their numbers did not decrease.

Score:
BA 2 - 0 Eldar

Turn 2: Shooting the Xenos

-My movement was limited as I finally had the enemy in sights of most of my big guns. Captain Smashio promptly exploited the respite he had and moved toward the Dark Reapers and the Farseer. Rhino, Mephiston and Veterans moved towards the blob of 2 Dire Avengers unit that formed comfortably close, readying to do what they do best (i.e.: a glorious charge). Scout Bikers abandoned the Choppy Scouts to their fate and positioned themselves in a way that they now kept possession of the objective marker by the woods while still having line of fire to one of the Dire Avengers unit in the center of the field.
-In the psychic phase, Mephiston fginally got his wings, but was denied the pleasure of Smiting the nearest Dire Avengers unit.
-Shooting went good for the sons of Sanguinius. Hemlock died in a fireball to a combined might of 2 Devastator squads, as did 2 Jetbikes and whole Troupe of Harlequins despite the -1 to hit the received earlier (Razorback, Intrcessors, Shooty Scouts and remaining Devastators) leaving only the Troupe Master. Some Dire Avengers also were removed from the unit occupying the floor, leaving the ground floor unit unscathed to prevent their reduced numbers increase the charge range for Mephiston's Blokes. Who by the way rolled a 1 to hit for his Plasma Pistol... Fortunately not overcharged. Captain Smashio managed to put 2 wounds on the Farseer as well with his Inferno Pistol. Choppy Scouts wasted their shots aiming for the nimble Exarch.
-Captain Smashio then faced with a tough choice: a wounded Warlord or Dark Reapers unit, chose to assault the latter judging them to be a bigger threat in the coming phases of the battle. His charge roll went well, as did Rhino's (who soaked up some wounds charging the base floor Avengers) and opening way for a safe charge for Mephiston and his bodyguards who also succeeded in their charges.

-Fight phase saw Dark Reapers all but annihilated leaving only the Exarch to face the wrath of Captain Smashio next turn, Dire Avengers reduced to red paste by Mephiston and Veterans' fury and the stubborn Exarch finally succumbing to Scouts blades. Solitaire's response was swift and brutal as he killed all the brave scouts on the spot.

-The now decimated Eldar with angry cries converged on the bloodied Captan Smashio - Solitaire, Eldrad, Warlock and Remaining Dire Avengers unit all moved toward him. Dark Reaper Exarch cowardly left combat leaving Blood Angels Captain standing proud on the top of a ruined building amidst the corpses of the enemies of humanity... nevertheless in plain sight of every angry Eldar in the surrounding area. Troupe Master moved toward the Shooty Scout Squad keeping ruins and terrain between himself and his prey. Remaining Jetbike moved a little.
- Psychic phase saw some frantic activity with Eldar doing everything they could to bring about Captain Smashio's doom and Mephiston doing everything he could to lessen the damage. In the end brave captain was brought down amidst the glorious carnage as is the fate of (almost!) all who are in the clutches of the Black Rage (Slay the Warlord!).
-The only shooting that happened was a Shooty Scout brought down by the remaining Jetbike as the rest of Eldar's firepower was aligned towards the late Captain Smashio.
-In the charge phase Troupe Master assaulted Shooty Scouts from out-of-LoS position and killed all claiming the objective in the process.

Score:
BA 2 - 1 Eldar

Turn 3: Consolidating

As the store was soon to be closed, we decided that this would be the final turn.
I moved to consolidate and grab as many objectives as possible while at the same time aiming to get as many addidional points as possible.
- Company Veterans reluctantly left Mephison's side and advanced towardds the objective for which the Choppy Scout squad gave their lives and which was now in no-man's land. Sanguinary Ancient light-up his jump pack and joined them Upon Wngs of Fire providing inspiration and support. Scout Bike Squad now consolidated out of line of sight on the objective and Intercessor squad moved from cover claiming another. Brave Rhino gunned it's engines and moved toward the gathering of the Eldar standing eerie still over Captan Smashio's body. Mepiston, still with his crimson Wings, moved closely behind preparing mentally to assault the xenos Warlord and possibly also the Dark Reapers Exarch who now were only 3" from each other - a perfect situation for a multi-assault. Devastators finally away from their safe cover in order to get as much of their firepower to bear as possible.
- In the psychic phase the crowd of the Eldar minds did not allow Mephiston to cast anything.

- Shooting saw the last Jetbike finally brought down by the combined might of the Devastators, while the Troupe Master in true Cegorach way laughed off multiple Assault canon shots that were sent his way (he did lost some wounds, but remained alive). Rhino killed off the Warlock who happened to be the closest opponent and revved it's engines preparing for a charge. Mephiston scored another 1 on his Plasma pistol to-hit roll... I don't think I will EVER have the courage to overcharge it. Luckily I didn't this time either.
-Charges declarations saw the Rhino loose another wound but managing to tie the Farseer and Dire Avengers in combat. Mephiston also managed his charge against the Farseer and surviving Dark Reaper Exarch unscathed reaching a perfect position to hit both of the xenos.
-In the fight phase, Mephiston split his attacks and managed to kill only the Exarch off (a Heavy Support choice destoryed!) due to Farseers re-rolls and invulnerable saves (rolling 1s on the Damage from Vitarion did not help either). He immediately chose to Honour the chapter, but still failed to kill the nimble Eldar. On the other hand the humble rhino killed a Dire Avenger :smile.:

-Faced with the wrath of the Lord of Death, Eldar seemingly fled. However remaining Dire Avengers used stratagem that would allow them to shoot despite falling back, and Farseer was still able to cast despite doing the same. Eldrad moved away towards the center of the field turning his cold eyes upon the surviving 2 LC-wielding devastators. Solitaire advanced against the Veterans hoping against hope to wrestle the objective marker from them, while the Troupe Master hid away amidst the corpses of the Scouts keeping possession of the hard-won objective in that area.
-Psychic phase brought Mephiston down to 3 wounds to Smite from the remaining Farseer and Eldrad cast Mind War on the depleted Devastator squad killing them off (Heavy Support choice destroyed!).
-Shooting from the Avengers took another wound off Mephiston, but he remained unbowed (and in the Linebreaker position!).

-Solitaire successfully charged Veterans and the Ancient, but only managed to put 2 wounds on the venerable Banner-bearer, loosing any hope of wrestling the objective from the Blood Angels hands. The Veterans (now also in a Linebreaker position) did some damage in return, but Solitaire's invulnerable saves kept him alive if only barely.

With that the game ended.
I was in possession of 3 objective markers, and gained additional points for 2 Heavy Support choices destroyed, First Blood and Linebreaker.
My opponent was in possesion of 1 objective marker, got one point for a Heavy support choice destroyed and Slay the Warlord.

FINAL SCORE:
BA 7 - 3 Eldar

I've started working on the Knight some time ago, but only recently it started taking some actual shape in my mind. This evening I've finally gone through most building and magnets-placing so I can present how he will look like bare-bones. Standing on some long-time fallen dreadnought (gonna be Black Legion). The tiles on the base are there to represent a road of some long-destroyed civilisation on a war-torn world.
No name, history or even actual loadout decided yet :tongue.:

gallery_105306_14251_540.jpg

I've actually magnetized almost everything: face plates, base, hatch, weapons, rocket types... Up the point were I took under consideration magnetizing the purity seals as well. Definitely need some sleep now :smile.:

I pity the Dreadnought whose frame now decorates the Knight's base.

Yes. This is a spare librarian dreadnought front plate left from the Furioso kit (from which a DC dread came out). Had no other use of it apart form selling as I already had one librarian front plate in my bitz box. The libby dread when I get to it, will be based on the contemptor frame, but that's a project still in the planning phase.

Here is how it looks like on the base:

med_gallery_105306_14251_81182.jpg

Even though it would be barely visible from under the Knight's foot, I removed the "Alatus Cadere" and trimmed the scrolls so they could be painted as bones or something similar. The book is OK as it can represent the Book of Lorgar. On the front I added the demonic face and some tubing I got along with a used chaos Predator re-sanctified to serve the Emperor. Fortunately it wasn't far gone, however it still requires occasional cleansing... but I digress.

Your Terminator Chaplain is well done, but why is his armor gray instead of the traditional black?

It's only the lighting. The armor is black only highlightes with blue-grays toward almost pure white. As you can see I'm experimenting with the way I take pictures. A good note for me to check how blacks come out.

Edit: actually the background is also black in reality. Definitely need to work on this :)
