BT confirmed on Vigilus

Recommended Posts

If memory serves it applies to the keyword, which is shared with the biker unit.

That is correct, and the company veterans on bike from the index entry DO have the "company veterans" keyword. Only downside is that they are relatively expensive point-wise as they didn't get a point reduction themselves the way the codex entry did.

And I'm out of luck in using veteran bikes outside of friendly games anyway due to the local tournaments not allowing index/FW. Sucks since I even started on a few veteran bikes last spring. I mean they're magnetized etc anyway so easy enough to repurpose, but mainly the problem is that regular fast attack bikes are pretty useless. Guess I could make 'em Deathwatch once I get that project off the ground. But, that's going off topic.

When you CAN use Index units the bikes sure would benefit from the cheap storm shields. T5 2W 3++ isn't something to scoff at when combined with a bike's mobility, even if the base price for the vet bikers is rather high (the Deathwatch ones are 7 points less per model while having the awesomesauce special ammunition). The SB stratagem would still have the same problem with them as it does with footsloggers, though.

On a side note I'm not sure what this inclusion of SB with the stratagems supposedly brings in terms of "modeling opportunities" that already wasn't there to begin with. Nothing changes for possible loadouts, just that some are cheaper, and out vets were already modeled as "sword brethren" anyway.

All that changes for my Sword Brethren is actually painting the regular backpacks I magnetized for the VV. Otherwise they would look exactly the same. I also recommend RedDog Minis SB Pauldron Shields to model them. They look awesome:

You know what they needed to do for BT? When you pop your deny stratagem, the filthy witch who was denied should have to pass a leadership test, with a penalty of half the warp charge cost (rounded up) of the power they failed to cast, to cast another power, or failing the leadership test, they move their full speed away from the unit that successfully denied them, and they can cast no more powers that turn. Granted, would not help much more against lists with many witches, but that is what Flamers are for. Maybe y'all should lobby that the failed leadership test should just END THE PSYCHIC PHASE as the wretched mutant witches recoil in horror at the power of our almighty Emperor to protect and preserve those He deems most worthy. Now THAT would be fluffy and fun. Sorry, Magnus/Eldrad/Draigo/Yvraine, you can't cast this turn because your sorry witch over there got denied like a :cuss by the Venerable Dreadnought over there. Lol

Oh well, hopefully in Chapter Approved 2019...

Actually, more like Space Marine codex version 2, heretical boogaloo. It won't happen in a chapter approved, as apparently that is only for points and match play rules adjustments according to many.

I've been seeing a lot of winking and nose twitching about the mention of a new marine and chaos marine codex being what brings our rules around.

Damn, those look fun...but working with resin is a real pain :(

Those gardbraces seem pretty nice, but being from Europe the shipping kills it :(

Resin is easy to clean up, cut, bends to shapenicely when warmed. Easy to paint, too. I only wish my Sisters and Guard were resin instead of metal, I would probably have gotten them done by now.

This probably wouldn’t make it into a competitive list, but with the reduction in points the following could be fun and fluffy:

Several drop pods filled with 5 man crusader squads armed with range weaponry and 4-5 sword brothers armed for melee. Add characters to taste.

Such glory, much wow.

If only I had more drop pods...

Who knew when I started this thread a little while back where we'd be today. Huh.

Overall, this seems to me to reinforce the message that primaris are the new troop choice for SM. Arguments here about GW's marketing strategy, future releases etc. - if impossible to be conclusive - are persuasive, in my opinion.

But what about all of us who have old marines sitting about? Well releases like this give you an incentive to revisit your old purchases and even make new ones, without blatantly alienating the community who aren't buying into primaris for now. I'm personally happy with this nod in our direction, and can see a lot of great hobby potential, which is always my primary concern vs. tabletop success.

Hope we all enjoy making these units, and let's hope this and 8th stays around long enough to justify the effort! Ha.

Picked up my book today....alittle upset....there is info on the wereabouts of the IF and CF and what front they stand on ....white scars got some fluff love as well on vigilus then skips over to the primaris chapters....but I am impressed with the customization you can make of a character in CA

I assume the second book will tell more

What about BT? Any decent fluff on them?

No brother...just our brethren and then straight to primaris....which is why I hope there is an update in the second book

I’m with firepower. Nothing contributed to the background since 6th has been a positive addition, really.

I thought ADB's treatment of BT in his black legion Series was good. Pretty sure "black legion" came out in late 7th of bot 8th edition.

Or you mean exclusively in "game books"?
