Casual Heresy
Good morning everyone. Bit of an odd request but I was looking for some inforrmation on the Tauros Venator. Specifically I was wondering if someone who owns the original model could tell me the dimensions? I'm thinking of using the new Achilles Ridgerunner to convert some Venators for my new Vostroyan army (now that my second made to order shipment is on the way). The short story in Inferno 1 that features the Vostroyans has them using local trucks and buggys for recon so I'd like to do something like that. Plus the rule of cool holds sway. Also can anyone who has experience fielding them give me any tips? I'm usually a marine and knight player so guard is uncharted territory for me. Harrowmaster
I don't know the dimensions on the model but I do know it's worth it's points on paper. It can move 15" a turn with a 5++ for moving over 10", it can also come with a pair of lascannons that don't suffer the penalty for moving and firing and can have hks. It's essentially a better sentinel from what I've heard and read but I don't have any actual experience with it. Would be interested to know how the conversion goes, I was looking at doing the same. MrZakalwe
I've never used them but I've had them fielded against me and they were exceptionally fragile with mediocre output. The Tauros is a slightly faster and more expensive scout sentinel without the scouting move that makes them worth using (scout sents can be a decent buffer against turn 1 teleport shenanigans like 'Da Jump'). The Venator is the same but more expensive and overgunned for it's fragility - it's really not worth putting twin lascannons on a platform that easy to kill with BS 4+ and the twin multilasers didn't get the CA18 cost reductions other multilasers got (also the thing that ended my dream of a 5 multilaser Carnodon at a bargain price). Sounds like a cool modelling project - was thinking of turning the Achilles into a Taurox, myself. Edit: just noticed how perfect it will be for an upgrade to a Salamander Scout Tank. Woot! Harrowmaster
The heavy mortar on the back might just work for the griffon conversion I've been planning for an age too. MrZakalwe
That's a fantastic idea- a light support vehicle for supporting forward infantry elements. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353477-the-tauros/#findComment-5244524 Share on other sites
librisrouge
I've got a venator but I'll have to dig it out to measure it. I will say that I was surprised by how small it actually it. Far smaller than most other vehicles and even a bit smaller than a land speeder. Feral_80
I can't measure it right now but it is *really* tiny, to the point it almost looks silly compared eg to a Taurox or Chimera. Might be around 10cm in length. And, it sucks. Expensive in pts cost and not really that effective, unfortunately. the 5++ hardly helps as it will just die anyway. Had it been a -1 hit it would have been more sensible, and also more in line with the source for such protection (high speed). Casual Heresy
Thanks Shamansky that's perfect. Now just need to hope the ridgerunner is similar in size for my plans to work! And thanks for the tactical tips everyone. I'm not too fussed about it being a competitive choice as my Guard army is going to be pretty casual (the only competitive elements will be those that form the loyal 32 for big competitive tournaments). Shamansky
i may be wrong but it looks like ridgerunner shown on official photos is on 105x70mm oval base, which makes it and Venator relatively eqal sized. But it maybe placed on bigger bases Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353477-the-tauros/#findComment-5245012 Share on other sites
