TheTrans
Hey Gang!Currently working through a 30k Dark Mechanicum force that I'll be using in what ever events I can squeeze my way into down here in OZ. So the fluff behind this is it is one of the lesser Forge-Fanes of Incaldion. So it will have some ties to the Legio Fureans, but will be it's own indepenant force that on occasion gets seconded to support the Legio as an ad-hoc Secutarri detachment. So a tiny bit of fluff.. Incaldion, known mainly for being the home of the Legio Fureans, or the more common cognomen the “Tiger Eyes”, A legio that is well known for it’s almost animalistic titans and rites and rituals that border on heretical. While all Forgeworlds are nominally united like the kingdoms of old earth, showing a unified outward strength, internally they are still wracked by petty power struggles, with different factions vying for prestige and wealth within it’s hierarchy. Resources that any of these internal fiefdoms and baronies produce are by and large earmarked and taken for use in the maintenance and creation of more god machines for the Legio Fureans. So while Incaldion is indeed a mineral rich planet, with resources in abundance, the Tiger Eyes with their, some may say wasteful or too-forward attitude toward war, expend most of the important materials to keep functioning, this leaves many of the less prestigious forge-fanes and castellen-manafatorum city states in an almost ongoing cycle of destituness. During the dark 50 odd years Incaldion endured up to being brought into the imperial fold still shows in the sensibilities of many of the Incaldion fiefdoms and baronies. The Forge-Fane Thrilliart exemplifies this hard scrabble mindset. Thrilliart to this day remains one of the poorer fiefdoms on Incaldion. During the half century of pure strife prior to the Crusade arriving, Thrilliart was one of the forge-fanes that for reasons unknown dealt with a larger than average percentage of xenos and pirate invasion forces. Like many other Forge-Fanes, Thrilliart’s core infrastructure was sunken well within the planets mantel, its external battlements and entry to its cyclopean mag-elevator were more than open to attack. Some have questioned the ruling Magos of Thrilliart’s decision to keep it’s out battlements occupied, where as many other Forge-Fanes would and did simply detonate the mag-elevators chutes, cutting themselves off safely from the turmoil above. Defending the external entry to the mag-elevator decimated Thrilliarts already stretched martial resources. The limited tech-guard and cybernetica units, while stalwart and almost indefatigable, slowly started to buckle under the sheer onslaught of xenos raids. This war of attrition would lose Thrilliart and all its holdings if it was to continue unabated. It was a junior Lachrimallus Magos that suggested instead of wasting their dwindling flesh-stock and slave labour force for servitorfication or being invoked into the adsecularis covenants, that they instead use the enemies battle casualties against them. This was met with shock and disgust from the upper echelons of Thrilliart’s ruling magi, but some of the more forward thinking and war like Magos argued that the cold logic and lexatagic numbers did indeed lend the idea some merit. Even while Thrilliart’s external battlements weathered the storm of repeated xenos raids , a dogmatic schism was brewing within the heart of the the Forge-Fane. For weeks Thrilliarts external defenders dwindled due to lack of supply and support from the heart of the forge-fane until, with no pomp or aplomb, the giant mag-lev elevator docked into the external battlements. But oddly striding forth out of the opening was no serried ranks of Skitarri, indomitable clades of Castellax or even the lumbering Thantar, it was a pair of Magi. They were as different from one another as possible, even within the vast remit of the Mechanicum. While one of the Magi was built into a scuttling abeyant, festooned with surgical equipment, bionic-implantation paraphernalia and fluid vats, the other one was a striding symbol of war made metal. Following these disparate magi was a whole host of monotask medical serviorts and larger cortex controlled conveyancers stocked to the brim with armour, bionics and weaponry. The two Magi, without so much as a binaric cant to the only remaining Myrmidon Lord, they commenced their gruesome task. Any freshly dead or mortally wounded xenos they found around the battlements where quickly gathered up by the servitors and set to work upon by these two Lachrimallus Magi. Within hours there was an army of the dead and dying standing jerkily to attention within the external battlements, side by side with their former enemies. When the next xenos attack came it was repelled with almost silent gusto, the new tech-thralls charging out into their former comrades, butchered in droves, but proving disruptive enough for the actual defenders of Thrilliart to capatilise on the confusion and repel the invaders with minimal losses to the actual taghmata units. When the enemy attack broke off, the sinister magi sent out their servitors to gather the enemy dead and dying as well as any serviceable technical parts from the previous iteration of the adesecularis, to again be turned into semi-living cannon fodder for the defence of Thrilliart. Over the next 40 odd years the Thrillart forge-thane lent into its new Lachrimillius specialisation with gusto. Developing an oddly similar but derivative parallels to Thallax, that relied, or at the very least where prepared for quick burn out of the organic parts. The builds of the heavier classes of Cybernetica, mainly the Thanatar escued their bipedal forms to instead consist of 2 or 3 pairs of legs, to better allow load bearing of the heavy weapon systems as well as allowing them some limited climbing ability in case of issues with the mag-elevator. Due to the heavy reliance on Tech-Thralls they also developed the ingenious (and some say heretical) Thrilliart Acclimator… More fluff to come as I get units sorted!Any way, I've painted up 3 Thallaxi to try and get my scheme down pat. Wanted a bit of Blanchitsu about it, but also wanted them to have some cues to being from Incaldion, while not just being Taghmata painted as baby Fureans titans. So with the conversions of the Thallaxi I wanted them to be a bit different to the bog standard bros. I figured they had jetpacks so why are they always standing feet planed on the ground, thus I converted two of them to be actually moving via jet pack as opposed to just standing there. I added the shields, top knots and chainmail to try and de-tech them and feral them up a little. The faces I put in there as thats what I essentially imagine is in the Thallaxi helm (maybe sans skin) any way, and figured by 'removing' the face plate we can have a little bit of the true horror of cybernetica (and dark mechanicum) showing through . Next up, mainly so I can have a big gnarly combat character (and chew up a lot of points for a beginnning army) I have my Scoria counts as:Arch-Vasiliás Varrak-Tar Majoris, Castellan of the Thrilliart Forge-Fane I've tried to tick off all the kit that Scoria is rocking or at least have some items that can hand wavium it away. I wanted him to clearly be both a Flesh-Crafter, but warrior also, hence his pose. Just a shot from the back. Again I've went the chainmail and some robes to lend the look to being slightly more primitive and chaotic. This is probably my favorite pic of him. What I'm going for in this picture is he has, while fighting, come upon an enemy (hell or friendly) casualty on the ground who isn't yet dead and can probably be of some use to his Adusecularis Covenants! So I imagine that big ole syringe is going to be sucking out useful bodily fluids or prepping the poor 'recruit' to receive a Thrilliart Acclimator (fluff in the works ). I imagine though while he is doing that, his photon thruster is blamming out destruction and if anyone gets close he will swap the Noval Pike (voidian sceptre) to some primary hands for fighting.Any way, will get some more pics up when I can, Varrack-Tar Minoris (the homonculux) is done as well as a big wad of Secutarri! Hope you enjoy and C&C always more than welcome (on any or all of it!!)Cheers, Nick Edited January 20, 2020 by TheTrans RolandTHTG, HvitrValdyr, Crevette and 25 others 28 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/355508-the-free-flesh-is-strong-army-complete-p5/ Share on other sites

Zephaniah Adriyen
I hope you realize what a hhhhhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHERETIC you are, my friend. That being said, wow, that's impressive. I might run something similar (i.e. a huge mech model counts-as, with it being, fluff-wise, a special combat body for Fabricator-General Zephaniah Adriyen) for my 40k AdMech list. Not sure. Bjorn Firewalker
Impressive work. Are the Thallaxi wearing masks to unnerve their opponents? Or are those their actual faces, frozen in fear of whatever transformed them from humans to Thallaxi? Pearson73
Man, your Astral Claws are fantastic and you've done it again with these Dark Mechanicum, the faces of the Thallax are rather creepy, balancing somewhere between porcelain doll faces and a jester's mask. The shields are a nice touch, as is the chainmail, gives them an aspect of a barbaric warrior, almost like some of the Thunder Warrior conversions I've seen, yet still clearly Mechanicum. The Castellan is monstrous, normally a character with so many appendages and details would look over busy, but I think it suits an adept of the Mechanicum well. Is the wiring around the blade intended to be wiring or crackling energy discharge? Do it mate! I've seen a few people use the Dominatar around and just put my own spin on it, was so much fun (this whole project has been!). Impressive work. Are the Thallaxi wearing masks to unnerve their opponents? Or are those their actual faces, frozen in fear of whatever transformed them from humans to Thallaxi? Thanks brother. It is an attempt at them being the living-ish faces of the controlling cortex/brain thing, I've coloured them a bit lighter/blue as they'll be on snow bases so I wanted it to show in the flesh parts. The whole idea (and will be with the tech-thralls also) that a lot of the conscious mind is still there for whatever poor sods head is being used, but they have no control and just essentially have all the 'working' bits of their brown slaved to a cortex controller. #Grimdark Man, your Astral Claws are fantastic and you've done it again with these Dark Mechanicum, the faces of the Thallax are rather creepy, balancing somewhere between porcelain doll faces and a jester's mask. Yeah in hindsite they may be a tad too light, but the reasoning behind the heads is explained in the reply above :P. Thats exactly the vibe I was going for in regards to being a bit barbaric! I agree that he certainly could be a bit busy, but as you say I feel ad mech (escpially higher ups) should be a bit busy as I imagine they are almost walking talking factories/science labs. DuskRaider
Oh yes... yes, these make me feel all warm and tingly inside. The posing on the second Thallaxi is a little odd, but overall I like them quite a bit and you definitely invoked the spirit of Blachitsu with the scheme. That Castellan is an absolute behemoth and I love everything about him! I can't wait to see what else you have in store for this. I think the tone is just about alright for a mask as it heightens the contrast between the grimy armour and mask, however for actual flesh, it might be a bit too stark. That's a deliciously dark bit of reasoning behind them, with the poor brain donor is forced to watch his involuntary actions of slaughter. Ah cool, I was unsure if it was perhaps an experimental weapon, so had exposed wiring, but having it on the blade would be somewhat inconvenient... Arcs of energy are a cracking idea and will be an interesting way to add new spot colours to the force. TheTrans
Hey gang!Cheers for all the support, got some work done on Varrack-Tar Minoris, The Executioner of Thrilliart Forge-Fane, The Dark Prince (the Homonculux). The Varrack-Tar Minoris is essentially a cybernetica creature, that instead of using a cleansed brain of some unwilling slave-creature, it was a vat-grown central nervous system cultured from parts of the Arch-Vasilias’ own flesh-brain. This creature was named Varrak-Tar Minoris and carried the name the Dark Prince, or the Executioner by the less learned of the tech-magi and the indentured slaves intelligent enough for the basic understanding of low gothic. While it is indeed capable of sentient thought and operating without any external commands, which is almost unheard of in a cybernetica based construct, it is a violent and avaricious creature that has been documented reveling in not only violence, but cruelty and terrorising the forge’s lower areas.. The Minoris is completely loyal to Varrack-Tar on a biological level, but still has fail safes built and encoded within it. It knows, as a core part of its being, that if Varrack-Tar Majoris dies, it will also cease to exist. It is also instilled with its creators will to live, so this also acts as almost a fall-back failsafe that for if some reason it was corrupted to want to take Varrakc-Tar’s life, it would not if for no other reason that to prolong its own. Thus it is as loyal and potent a protector as any other in the Imperium. So as per the bit of fluff, I wanted the minoris to be a bit of a derivative of Varrack-Tar Majoris' build. Will note I've got to add some chained skulls and some extra bibs and bobs to tech the back pack up a bit more but hopefully it gets the jist along.Opted for the dragoon legs as I imagined that the while we all presume the Artalax will be based off of the Dominatar, but given it needed to be an airborne creature it would logically need to a bit of a lighter build. That also with the different shoulder pads I feel changes the look of it enough to be clearly be a sub class. The head being half skull, half death mask was again to try and link it back to Marjoris. The death mask is on the opposite side, and will most probably be black given he is the executioner. I enjoyed rigging the back pack up and it is even rocking some pistons and what not to make it almost believable that it could move a little. Oh yes... yes, these make me feel all warm and tingly inside. The posing on the second Thallaxi is a little odd, but overall I like them quite a bit and you definitely invoked the spirit of Blachitsu with the scheme. That Castellan is an absolute behemoth and I love everything about him! I can't wait to see what else you have in store for this. Thanks a heap mate! The posing on #2 thallaxi was sort of of show him in the process of Jump shoot jumping away sort of thing.. Wow, your fluff and work has blown me away. I'll have to closely monitor the things that your genious mind will manufacture. Thanks a heap mate! I do love the fluff behind the Tiger Eyes and I think really lent itself to going a bit dark and nasty with the taghmata from there! I was thinking about maybe adding a little bit of a red wash into some bits to pinken it up a bit and what about maybe some veins and general red soreness around the edge of the helmet to really drive home that its meant to be living flesh? Should i maybe pupil the eyes up also? Yeah that horrid theme will be carried across in the fluff of the Thrilliart Acclimator which will be on the tech thralls ... Yeah wanting a spot of colour...NFI on what colour to choose for the arcs.. so my ears are open Whoa ... your conversions, specially your castellan, are simply amazing ... Pearson73
The Minoris is a terrifying beast, I especially like those claws, I do think that the angle might be a little too far (I do appreciate that he is charging/propelling into combat). I think veins in the faces could be a nice touch, though I do also like the mask-like appearance. Red lightning arcs could complement the current colours nicely, though indeed is already present in the scheme. TheTrans
Hey gang, sorry for the radio silence, have been working away like a madman!!I've manage to finish building everything (and primed) for the tournament coming up this weekend. Not going to lie, I feel a bit dirty taking a not fully finished army, but I hope It won't be too much a ruiner for my opponent given the amount of fluff and stuff I'll throw at them :PSo first up, and super happy with is my Thanatar replacement. Is called a Jotunn-Class Automata, this one is actually named 'Uttu' The Jotunn-Class Automata of the Thrilliart Forge-Fane fill a very similar role to that of the Thanatar based Cybernetica constructs of the wider Mechanicum. The major differences between them is that the Jotunn-Class are mostly hexapodal and built much lower to the ground. The 6 legs and lower form factor allows the Jotunn-Class automata to move around the closer confines of a forge-fane with much more alacrity as well as allowing them limited climbing capability if defense of the mag-lev elevator shaft is needed. Outside of the confines of a forge-fane they operate in a similar if more disconcerting way to their Thanatar cousins. While the Thanatari stride pridefully into battle, the Jotunn skitter around the battlefield, generally making use of what cover is available to them, firing withering volleys of plasma hellfire, then displacing. The Jotunn named “Uttu” was the first prototype of the Jotun-Class to leave the Thrilliart Forge-Fane… none of its cybernetics have yet needed to be replaced which is unheard of in such a large Cybernetica construct. Some believe this is just due to the resilience of the biological components within, some that the build of the Jotunn-Class automata causes less strain on said components. But those who know things closer to the truth believe that it may be an abominable intelligence, or worse yet, it may be somehow infected with warp taint. Since the onset of the heresy more and more of the Jotunn have been able to operate for longer periods of time without biological component degradation. While it is becoming the norm in Thrilliart’ s Jotunn-Class Automata, it seems that ‘Uttu’ was the first of what have become to be known as ‘The Dark Ones’. It has since had some extra clean up and some liquid greenstuff slathered all over it to neaten up some of the transitions.its mainly based off of a lord discordant and a bit of a plague-thingo from the deathguard range. I wanted it to look insectoid, weird and borderline chaotic whilst still having blant techno bits and it still clearly being an automata of some description. I think I managed it hit it relatively well. The leg up will obviously be on some rubble or some such, but was just a little bit of a limitation with the discordant kit. Next up we have the Secutarii Axiarch. Or for my fluff the Legio Fureans Compliance overseer. Given that the Legio Fureans is, at best, generous with it’s application of Titan forces and at worst wasteful of precious god machines, it still uses the majority of Incaldion’ s resource output to keep supplied, maintained and reinforced. This leaves many of the smaller Forge-Fanes and city states in a state of perpetual deprivation. This in-turn breeds resentment, distrust and in many cases, falsification of production quotas. Therefore, every fiefdom that does not have direct ties to the Tiger Eyes or has not shown unfaltering loyalty to them are seen as suspect. To stem this issue, every one of these disparate kingdoms have a Secutarii Compliance Overseers inserted to make sure that most of the resources go straight to the Tiger Eyes’ war efforts. These Overseers, being of Secutarii stock are loyal to the Tiger Eyes above all else and will stop at nothing to make sure the Legio’s tithes are being fulfilled at even the most basic levels. Theta-12-Zyvod is no different in any meaningful way to her other Secutarii kin and takes to her role as Overseer with an almost obsessive determination. While Thrilliart is not by any means a large or wealthy Forge-Fane, Theta-12-Zyvod opted to take with her an entire Phalanx of Secutarii Hoplites as well as a handful of Furiata-Thallax Clades to enforce the Legio’s tithes. Theta-12-Zyvod is aware of Varrack-Tars both mental and political prowess and always keeps close tabs on his movements. While Varrack-Tar and Thrilliart’ s Taghmata is off world, Theta-12-Zyvod leaves only a skeleton section of Secutarri overseeing Thrilliarts output, as she well suspects that Varrack-Tar is planning not only a coup against her, but maybe even the Preceptor-General of Incaldion himself! The second I spotted the Secutarii Hoplite models I've always wanted to run them in a Mechanicum force. But by the fluff they generally aren't seen away from god machines, hence my little bit of Compliance fluff. All my Secutarii (pics to come as almost painted) are based heavily off of the Cawdor box, with a lot of leg and arm swap outs, while still using the Hoplite gear from forgeworld. Having the spare head (which is quite defining I think) in the kit I opted to make the Axiarch. I wanted her to feel a little more lithe and lethal hence the rust-stalker legs and arms as well as an 'improved' lance and shield. I chucked the trophy-horn thing on to just up the chaotic levels a little with out going full blown skulls for the skull throne. As always lay the boot if something ain't great or you have any input gang.Just finishing a really rough draft of the minidex at the moment and will get a link up for that sooner rather than later! My word! Your are simply churning out magic! The fluff behind the mini is also fantastic. I love the element of a mad scientist making a perfect killing machine using the best genetic example, itself. Thanks a heap mate!! I figured it would really lend itself to the arrogance of the arch-magos that we see a lot through fluff! Thanks mate! The claws are just skaven spears..just lucked out that I had enough of them :P. I agree, I'll definitely try and slacked it a little once he is based, will also probably put him on an oval base to remedy to over hand a little. I will have a crack with the veins just so it pushes the fluff a little more haha. I'm not sure where I'll be putting red on Majoris, so the lightning may be the way to go! So savage! In a good way Thanks mate!! This is too good, I've seldom been this impressed by the first page of a wip log.All these guys brings out the best in 40(30)k, I'm reminded of the artwork from the old book for the 54mm inquisitor game. Creepy as hell. Thanks mate, figure got to get the hooks into you guys quickly :PThats what I used a lot for reference. I normally like a lot of symmetry in my models, but wanted to push my self a bit and get out of that mind set. Also used a 'vampire counts in space' sort of mindset for these guys also.. really wanted to show some of the horror of the grim dark etc..Thanks a heap gang!! Gamma310
Holy smokes, your work is so cool, I can't stop myself from freaking out. At the moment I'm planing an Epic Adeptus Mechanicum army myself (Incaldion themed). And now I want to get an Jotunn- Class Automata in 6 mm. I need to source parts which look the part. This is sooo good. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/355508-the-free-flesh-is-strong-army-complete-p5/#findComment-5305627 Share on other sites
Pearson73
I like the insectoid look of the Jotunn Automata, it matches some of what we read in the Black Library books and ties in nicely to the daemon engines of the forty-first millenium. I'm a big fan of Theta-12-Zyvod, you really do have a talent for making characters that stand out. The lance looks good and the combination with the helmet style and circular shield recalls the warriors of antiquity, whilst the fur and mail cloak ties her back into the other warriors of the forge. Markus_
The ingenuity you have with these conversions is refreshing. Just balls out weird, dark sci-fi. Can't wait to see what you come up with next. hushrong
“Working like a madman” should not be an apology in this thread. Those are the exact words I want to hear! :) Uttu is another phenomenal conversion and the fluff behind him is great. The insectoid look is very well executed with the multi legs, the layer of plates, as those two antennae like appendages up from. Even that “prow” on the front makes me think of those Hercules beetles. I can just imagine the top life-like movement as that thing skitters about raining plasma or even ramming and crushing lessers beneath it. The hoplite is also very sweet! The mix of bits you used go together flawlessly. I just love the use of the stalker legs and when armed with the lance and that shield it looks so characterful. Dreagher
Those are some gorgeous models! I especially like the Thanatar and your Magos. Some nice inspiration for my own Domitar, that keeps lieing around. Also, how did you make the chain mail parts?
