TheTrans
While I've been whacking away at the Brojta Tivar, I've been doing bits and pieces on other models while awaiting layers to dry etc. I've finally managed to finish Varrak-Tar Majoris, my counts as scoria. During the half century of strife prior to the Crusade arriving, Varrak-Tar was nothing more than a lowly chirurgen-adept working with Adsecularis Covenants. When he was sent up to the surface battlements to repair and maintain the Tech-Thralls stationed there he came upon a half-dead Xenos that had somehow not yet been put to death. He secreted the half dead creature away and upon returning the the crypt-labs he started experimenting on it. Through this trial and error process and keeping the poor creature in some form of half life he created what would be the progenitor of the Thrilliart Acclimator. Upon further testing and the creation of multiple half-dead xenos that where completely under his control he risked eradication and took it to his crypt-lab overseer. This half-mad overseer, Hartak-Thol, while slightly shocked at what had been going on without his knowledge saw the merit in the idea and took it to the ruling Magi of Thrilliart. After the catastrophic schism that Varrak-Tar’s heretical creation caused, he cemented himself as the Arch-Vasiliás of the Thrilliart forge-fane. It was throughout these decades he encouraged the Lachrimallus schooling trough junior and senior Magi alike. Due to this, during the crusade and well into the Heresy, any Magos or tech priests coming from Thrilliart are all trained and studied in the flesh-crafts before they are allowed to specialise into different subsects. While Varrak-Tar’s dictatorial leadership, disregard for Martian dogma and flagrant use of outlawed technologies helped Thrilliart survive the dark time that Incaldion was suffering, there was still uncounted attempts on his life, failed coups, and seditious actions by even some of his closest allies. After one almost successful and crippling assassination attempt, Varrak-Tar opted to not only improve his own mechanical endo-skeleton, but to also create his dread enforcer, the Varrak-Tar Minoris. This creature would act both as a bodyguard and an extension of his will. Varrak-Tar Majoris holds nothing sacred except for the betterment of Thrilliart and will stop at nothing to wrest it from under the yoke of the Legio Fureans. Think he came up pretty well and another unit finally done for the army :P Nice man! That thing is super cool! Great job! Didn't realize how big it was, thing is massive compared to the other model! Thanks mate. Yeah I didn't really get how bit it was until I put the model in there also haha The Ergonomic Enginseer, Dreagher, Dragonlover and 12 others 15 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/355508-the-free-flesh-is-strong-army-complete-p5/page/5/#findComment-5426654 Share on other sites

Zephaniah Adriyen
Absolutely phenomenal. What is it exactly? A massive, Titan-grade artillery platform? TheTrans
Absolutely phenomenal. What is it exactly? A massive, Titan-grade artillery platform? Thanks mate! It's a count's as Ordinatus, fluff below for it good sir! The Brjota Tivar is to the more orthodox followers of the machine god a blasphemy of the highest order. It was originally a massive Utgaror Class Battle-Construct used by the Taghmata Thrilliart and was knocked out in combat in Tegular Hive, where it was recovered from the battlefield before the escape of the Taghmata Thrilliart during the Omega-Celia conflict. The hulk remained all but forgotten in the bulk lander requisitioned by Varrak-Tar. During the loyalist retreat from Omicron-38a a Nemesis Titan, The Antaganistico of the Legio Solaris was brought low before it could be recovered by its awaiting recovery lander. This god machine was recovered by agents of the Legio Vulpa after the battle, but not before Varrak-Tar Majoris, with backing of the Arch Hopfen-zärtlic of Omicron 38-a requisitioned it’s Quake Cannon under the premise of mounting it on the Magna-Distillery as a point defence weapon. It was ofcourse promptly shipped back upto Thrilliart’s Bulk Lander where Varrak-Tar begun work on his newest weapon. Due to the treaty of enthrallment signed, under threat of eradication, by all fiefdoms and forge-fanes on Incaldion, no Titan-Killing weapons were allowed to exists or be used by any Magos or Taghmata, outside of those within the Legio Fureans. This, Varrak-Tar knew is what allowed the Legio Fureans to exact such heavy tithes from the population of Incaldion without fear of rebellion lest the god machines were sent in to annihilate any contentious forge-fane. Although always looking for a way to overthrow the yoke of the Legio, none had yet shown itself to Varrak-Tar until now. While salvaging and entire titan would be almost impossible to hide from the Legio and if found out would be tantamount to a declaration of war which would no doubt result in Thrilliart’s immediate liquidation. But by only taking an armament from the god-machine was certainly much more within a grey area if found out, especially being off planet and during the cataclysmic events of the civil war. Over many weeks, Varrak-Tar, Enna-Sin and a host of their most loyal Magi worked on marrying up the hulk of the Utgaror Battle-Construct and the salvaged Quake Cannon. It required an extensive reworking of the Constructs chassis to facilitate the weight and recoil of the weapon. All other main armaments where stripped out to make room for heavy-duty ballistic cogitators, larger genetoriam, retrofitted void shields and a significantly larger proportion of installed slave-servitors. A baffled fire observation point was installed on the forward weapons deck for direct-fire supervision. The final piece was the installation of it’s primary Cybernetica-Cortex. Given the size and complexity of this construct it’s cortex was created from a network of brains, both human and xenos alike, to form a gestalt consciousness which was then stirred into life through blood rites gleaned in secret from the Legio Fureans barbaric tech-shamans. The motive force that imbued the new construct was something which had only been glimpsed at in the Jotunn-Class Battle-Automata. A machine spirit that was as much binaric code, as it was raw emotion. Not unlike a God-Machines spirit but at the same time something much more otherworldly, bellicose and unclean. As the construct stirred to life within the confines of the bulk lander’s workshop levels, it strained against gargantuan chains, its Quake Cannons magazine cycling and dry firing though empty ammunition chambers and from somewhere both within it and from the ether itself it roared…. Varrak-Tar looked upon his greatest creation and in ancient Incaldian script he inscribed upon its writhing armour “Brjota Tivar”, the Violator of Gods. The Brjota Tivar is to the more orthodox followers of the machine god a blasphemy of the highest order. Markus_
Varrak-Tar looks fantastic, really a larger than life character in itself. K0rtmer
That Ordinatus of yours is probably the single most-inspired model I've seen on this board this year. Skidman
I have admired the way this project has come together. TheTrans
Thanks for all the amazing compliments gang, I'm glad you've enjoyed the Brjota Tivar, probably did everything in the wrong order as I still need to do some much less exciting things, but hey, army is almost done :PSo next up we have Varrak-Tar Minoris, The Dark Prince (The Homonculux) The Varrak-Tar Minoris is essentially a cybernetica creature, that instead of using a cleansed brain of some unwilling slave-creature, it has a vat-grown central nervous system cultured from parts of the Arch-Vasilias’ own flesh-brain. This creature was named Varrak-Tar Minoris and carried the moniker the Dark Prince, or the Executioner by the less learned of the tech- Magi and the indentured slaves intelligent enough for the basic understanding of low gothic. While it is indeed capable of sentient thought and operating without any external commands, which is almost unheard of in a cybernetica based construct, it is a violent and avaricious creature that has been documented reveling in not only violence, but cruelty terrorizing the forge’s lower areas.. The Minoris is completely loyal to Varrak-Tar on a biological level, but still has fail safes built and encoded within it. It knows, as a core part of its being, that if Varrak-Tar Majoris dies, it will also cease to exist. It is also instilled with its creators will to live, so this acts as another fall-back failsafe that for if some reason it was corrupted to want to take Varrakc-Tar’s life, it would not if for no other reason than to prolong its own. Thus, it is as loyal and potent a protector as any other in the Imperium. So clearly based on what many Artalax models have been based on before (The ole Dominatar + Dragoon legs) But really wanted to have the jump pack be a pretty large focal point. That and with enough finangling I thinkn I managed to give the big bastard a decent amount of 'movement' to convey how terrifying a jump MC should be. Also for those who enjoy looking really hard at things, Both Varrak-Tar Majoris and Minoris both have a death mask covering half of their 'faces', but are opposite sides to try and tie together that they are still connected.Hope you like him gang! Varrak-Tar looks fantastic, really a larger than life character in itself. I also love the fluff snippets you're coming up with. But that machine... It's tremendous and terrifying. Grats on the prize! Thanks mate!! Really enjoy having an overlay of fluff to the models. As to me the fluff sort of gives a frame of reference for the model and sort of 'adds' to the model more if you know whats going on!Thanks mate, is easily the biggest project I've done, super pleased with the result! :) That Ordinatus of yours is probably the single most-inspired model I've seen on this board this year. KrautScientist
These latest models are absolutely amazing! The model for Varrak-Tar Majoris really fits his background of having rebuilt himself as something truly frightening. And "grimdark Shagohod" may just be the most interesting (Dark) Mechanicum warmachine I have seen so far. You have a really excellent (and original) approach to really nailing the Dark Mechanicum angle without over-relying on creepy crawly stuff, but rather by creating mechnical designs that are delightfully sinister. Fantastic job all around! :) TheTrans 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/355508-the-free-flesh-is-strong-army-complete-p5/page/5/#findComment-5442854 Share on other sites
TheTrans
The invention and, perhaps more importantly, execution of your ideas is supreme. Thanks man!! Most of the stuff really shifts from the original plans, but endt up still getting ideally what I was going for haha! These latest models are absolutely amazing! The model for Varrak-Tar Majoris really fits his background of having rebuilt himself as something truly frightening. And "grimdark Shagohod" may just be the most interesting (Dark) Mechanicum warmachine I have seen so far. Fantastic job all around! Thanks brother!! Glad to hear you enjoy them!! Was super happy with how Varrak-Tar Majoris came out, I figured i had to add something Lacyraemarta-ish to him, even though he is quite punchy!! I did look up the Shagohod and they are frighteningly close!! I think I played snake-eater back in the day, so probably lodged itself in there haha. Thanks mate! Yeah I feel sometimes with the Dark Mech people just go "I know I'll add fleshy-cably bits", but I feel that would be what post-scouring Dark Mech may be moving toward. I feel HH dark mech are still only at the point of 'lets use daemons as batteries" so most stuff would still be nominally mechanical. Also lez be honest, the Mechanicum uses a lot of flesh parts and body horror when they are the 'good guys' so there is already a good start there haha!
