I have also buckled down and want to get my warhound build done asap! . . . side eyes Saturnine box So i have been doing my best to work on it a little each day, even if its just 10 minutes right before bed. And yes, I did have to make a stand to work on the upper body by itself. Congrats Oh, I am on a roll. I got the other arm on and 3 pistons per arm to control it last night. I am working on the head positioning now. NiftyVT
So I had a little order of operations problem I had to think through. There is a part that goes into the main top carapace armor that once installed you cannon access anymore but you can see it! So I painted it up and then did the airbrush work on the carapace and also brush painted the carapace metal grill. Why brush paint the grill now you ask? Well, paint might just splatter through the grill when you brush paint the fine mesh. A a makeup sponge would minimize this but if anything did splatter or drip onto the part underneath. . . its there forever unless you break stuff. The rectangular rusted up part fits into the carapace underneath the metal gill (yes, in the warhound that grill is actually stamped brass. . .very cool!). Once this part is glued in then I can do the FINAL, super ultra final, putty work which will complete the build! Then its time to really dig into the paint! I am really looking forward to painting up the inside of this thing. The Chaos Warhound interior is insanely cool! If I do end up airbrushing more on the carapace I will be masking the heck out of that mesh with big blobs of airbrush putty lol. Lastly, once I get the final putty work done I will get a ton of detailed close ups of everything and a make a 360 GIF. NiftyVT
Little update. Build is done, putty work is done, base is built. Everything is primed, everything is airbrushed silver that needs to be and all of the off white has been airbrushed as well. Then I had a thought. . .and thoughts lead to heresy. . . How about real glass in the cockpit eyes? Little pic of them drying up. Once its all set I need to build a simple plastic card frame on the inside to cover the edges. Not doing anything crazy detailed, I just want to cover the raw cut glass edge. I cut the lenses out of the cheapest phone screen protector I could find online ($3 USD for a 3 pack) using a dremel and a diamond cut off wheel. Then I put a tiny screwdriver on the glass and tapped it with a tiny hammer (and hoped for the best) to make the damage (I did 2 per side and picked the best). I shaped them so that the back of the protector was inside so its smooth glass on the outside. Now the big question, I have 2 options: 1. Leave it clear. 2. Paint from behind using some sort of clear paint/ink to make it look like its glowing. . .I would of course practice on my spare screen protectors. Clear would be cool because you could peak inside without lifting the panel off . . .and boy does the Chaos Warhound have a super sweet interior. Painting would be cool because red fire eyes are fun. Please make your opinion heard. Thanks! Coloured might be great too. Yet I would not necesarilly vote for red. a yellow can be nice too, depending on the overrall paint scheme of that beast. Xana II is clear cream, but does it means the Titan will be too? If you follow Legio Vulturum scheme I suppose red will be more contrasting though... Hard choice. But in the end I would go coloured glass. Edited April 2 by Bouargh Otherall, overrall... Who cares?
