Yesterday we started our first Dominion Campaign. Our group has four players, myself and another player who are Necromunda veterans, one player who's played a bit of Necromunda in the past and one completely new player. For our first campaign as a group we decided to do a very basic Dominion Campaign, just to get used to the basic mechanics and advancing gangs. It would also serve as a test for people to get used to founding a gang for a campaign and the kind of decisions they should be making (skills, gear vs warm bodies etc). I thought it'd be fun just to do some basic documentation of how the campaign goes, as well as the fortunes and trials of the gangs involved.

We're not going to burden ourselves with background for this campaign, just gang and fighter names, so this might be a bit dry, concentrating mainly on the advancements and technical aspects rather than the story. The only change we're making is to base campaign phases on a round robin, rather than a time period, as one of our players sometimes works weekends and can't guarantee that he will be available every week. So for each week of a normal Dominion campaign, we'll be playing 3 games each, once against each opponent. That way everybody gets the same number of games and hopefully stays around a similar power level.

Once this campaign is over and everyone feels comfortable with the campaign mechanics, we'll dive into a much bigger campaign, complete with a full storyline, gang background, settlement background, custom scenarios, the full campaign rules (including the extra rules in the Book of Peril) and more.

Of course, I'll make sure I post pictures of the gangs and terrain as we progress, hopefully including some in-game shots and brief reports. This campaign will go hand in hand with us building and painting our Necromunda collections, so there should be picture progress of the gangs evolving as well.

The gangs taking part are:

Lodge of the Pure Blood (Genestealer Cult)

A supremacist religious group from Hive Secundus who seek to purify the gene pool of Necromunda, by coercian or force.

Hella's Belles (House Escher)

A gang of thrill-seeking Escher trying to carve out a piece of the Underhive to call their own and have some fun in the process.

Crusade of Expiation (House Cawdor)

A group of outcast Cawdor zealots attempting to atone for past sins with blood and fire.

Architects of Planck (House Van Saar)

A gang of rad-obsessed techs looking to expand the territory of House Van Saar.

They'll be fighting over a section of the Underhive containing the following territories:

Sludge Sea.

Collapsed Dome.

Refuse Drift.

Bone Shrine.

Needle Ways.

Synth Still.

Smelting Works.

Mine Workings.

Tunnels.

Toll Crossing.

Tech Bazaar.

Generatorium.

I'll update this list as territories change hands. But for now, it's all up for grabs.

Full gang lists coming later today.

Hopefully there's something useful/interesting in this for people to enjoy :).

Interested to see how this works out.

I’m in a similar boat as we’re playing a four player Dominion campaign with Cawdor, Escher, Goliath and Van Saar. We’re doing one game a week (aiming to play each other once) with a Gang Moot during Downtime.

I made a few changes to rules as written and we’re halfway through play testing. Firstly, each player was given a random house specific territory and then a totally random territory to make things a little more interesting and hopefully add a little balance. It means that if you lose all three first games (as happened to one of our players) you have three territories as opposed to one when it comes to the Takeover phase.

The other significant change I made was to how the challenges work. Each player will select one of their opponent’s territories as the prize for the game, with the loser giving that territory to the victor. With everyone playing each other once, it’s hopefully a better system than the current challenge system.

We’re having a blast at the minute.

Hope you enjoy your campaign. We’re discovering a load of rules mistakes we’ve been making so this is somewhat of a practice campaign, but good craic nonetheless.

Dallo

Those are some interesting changes. Let me know how it works out for you and whether it's more balanced than the basic campaign system.

The other change we've made which I forgot to mention is to try and make sure everybody does an equal number of challenges in each week of the campaign (I can't remember if this is in the main rules or not). Basically we want to make sure everybody has a chance to pick a territory to fight over before other people can get it, giving prioty to the more junior members. My explanation in the previous post wasn't the best and I made a mistake. It's not 3 games each every week, but something slightly different.

We wanted a flexible schedule so that we could individually have weeks off when needed, so we've split a campaign week over two weeks real time. We've also ensured that everyone gets the same number of challenges and games each campaign week.

So the schedule for the first campaign week is:

Week 1

Architects of Planck challenges Crusade of Expiation.

Hella's Belles challenges Lodge of the Pure Blood.

Week 2

Lodge of the Pure Blood challenges Architects of Planck.

Crusade of Expiation challenges Hella's Belles.

But because the player for the Architects of Planck is working next weekend (Week 2) so can't attend, we've re-shuffled the games to this:

Week 1

Architects of Planck challenges Crusade of Expiation.

Lodge of the Pure Blood challenges Architects of Planck.

Week 2

Hella's Belles challenges Lodge of the Pure Blood.

Crusade of Expiation challenges Hella's Belles.

The result is the same. Everybody gets 2 games. Everybody gets to challenge once. It just gives us the flexibility of schedule our group needs.

We're not using anything like House favours or subplots yet. We're purposefully keeping it simple because we have two new players and none of us have played a campaign using Necro '17/18 before. We might look at including them in Phase 2, depending upon how people get on with the rules. Especially if some of the gangs are struggling at the end of phase 1 with low wealth. For now though, it's very much a test campaign in order to see how things pan out, learn the basic campaign rules and get our gangs going.

Time to get started on the gang rosters. I'll update these and add pictures as the gangs evolve.

Time for pictures of the first gang, the Crusade of Expiation, House Cawdor. Edited for clarity: this Cawdor gang is from one of the players in the campaign, not me. I'll pass on any comments to him.

They're the Cawdor of one of the other player's in the campaign.

The explanation of their naming is hinted at in the first post.

Crusade of Expiation (House Cawdor)

A group of outcast Cawdor zealots attempting to atone for past sins with blood and fire.

So they're named after the sins that got them kicked out of the House and into the Underhive. And if I remember correctly, their first names are all Popes. Hopefully that makes it clearer :smile.:

You really made those Cawdors your own, excellent work! The cool names - brilliant idea with the pope/sin combination! - is just the icing on an awesome cake.

Not my Cawdor - edited the OP to make that clear.

He really did make them his own though. He's done a load of work on them, some of it quite subtle (like making sure neither of the Juves have a complete pair of shoes) or not visible in these pictures (like adding an ammo box full of scrap to the polearm blunderbuss). He's a great painter too, so hopefully we'll start to see the gang being painted soon.

Oh, relate my respect for his abilities then, the skill and attention to detail shown with these is remarkable. Also give him a (friendly!) kick in the behind - they need to get painted sooner rather than later!

Your friend has done an admirable job on personalizing his Cawdor, both with the figures and the names. :)

Unfortunately, the word "expiation" will always make me think of Marcia Gay Harden's crazy Christian character from The Mist.

Time for more outlaw mugshots, this time of the Lodge of the Pure Blood. Like the Cawdor, this gang isn't mine. However I am working on them as a commission, so all assembly and painting will be mine. The only exception to this is the Abberant, who is mine (converted while the other player waits for the parts for his own Aberrant).

Time for another gang, this time the Van Saar of the Architects of Planck. These belong to the third player in our group. He's a new Necromunda player but also new to wargaming, so he's stuck with fairly basic builds and little to no conversion work. They're still a work in progress, so he has mold lines to remove on some models, barrels to drill and he wants to add more gear (pouches, grenades, backup weapons etc) before he starts painting them.

Because I'm behind I'll get the final gang uploaded now - Hella's Belles of House Escher. This is the gang I'm using in the campaign and I've been working on them for a while now. I've held off on posting them in this thread because there's still quite a bit of modelling work to do and I wanted to have them ready for painting before I posted, but I can always add more pictures at a later date.

I love the autogun ganger as well. Needed a bit of work to sculpt a new stock and re-pose the arms, but she wasn't too bad. I might actually paint her next.

Speaking of painting, here's a couple of finished Gangers. Jerra of House Escher and Evaristus of House Cawdor.
