Discussion on the new C:SM & Possible BT supplement

Recommended Posts

In my mind - it would prefer for being in a codex Ecclesiarchie instead always being a footnote in codex Ultrasmurfes and First Founding friends...

Sisters X Templar?

I ship it.

like the Dark Eldar Codex with 3 different factions which co-exist in one book.

Yeah he havent mentioned sisters, but the map symbol for the second campaign was the sisters one.

as long as we get a supplement same level as FF chapters do, it should be okay. But its GW.

Here's a post from good old Kikasstou :

Besides fluff, Psychic Awakening supplements will bring new additional rules to the original Codexes. Craftworlds for example will have their own craftworld's trait just like SM supplements. So we can expect specific craftworlds rules, warlord traits, dedicated powers and strats. In any case we should get more solid information very soon, it's planned for the beginning of October. Then there will be AoS new faction and by the end of October IF/Sallies.

So, this should help tweak our speculations regarding :

1/ the time frame

2/ what we can expect for ourselves. I understand the "thrice melta-burned, 16 times shy" mentality we sometimes fall into, but at this point, us receiving a proper supplement should be the basis on which we build our hypothesis and not an hypothesis in itself.

Also the elephant in the room : this means pointed-ears Xenos are still up and about, which means we have more CRUSADING to do, brothers.

In answer to that, I'm still expecting rules on the levels of what the others have gotten. No psychic discipline of course, but rumors have floated another set of litanies instead. It seems perfect for us.

What the burnings are worrying me about is if models are coming or not. If the recent eldar stuff for book 1 is an indication, it seems both sides of the conflict are getting at least a squad and a leader model, which I would be very happy with. I just hope the sisters don't snag those.

On the topic of models, as has been indicated, we really don't know where we stand. That being said, I'd be curious to know what people would like, and why :

  • a unique primaris character, and which one (EC, random officer...)
  • a unique primaris squad (sword brethren)
  • a generic melee primaris squad
  • a typical upgrade sprue (a couple of heads and arms, shoulder pads, etc)
  • a fancy primaris upgrade sprue (as we currently have for regular marines)
  • other (feel free to elaborate)

Please note that this is pure wish-listing obviously, but as I said I am curious to know what people would like or (given a limited choice) would rather get.

Myself, I'd really like a generic melee squad + fancy upgrade sprue, because the character of an army is more in my opinion built on having a consistent "unique" look across all models than just on a few characters. That being said, I'd be ok enough getting what everyone else got (character+small upgrade sprue), but I do feel we need a proper melee unit (though that may be addressed rule-wise, I understand that WS reivers are pretty good).

I mean if we're wishlisting then all of the above and then some. I wish we would get showered with things like that. Or put differently: why would anyone wish for a standard upgrade sprue if you can wish for a fancy one? That said...

What I expect: nothing. If someone else steals the model releases for book 2 (sisters potentially) this could be the case. CF got nothing modelwise besides also being able to use the IF sprue.

What I think we should get: A unique character, probably the EC, A squad and/or a standard upgrade sprue. Less than this is pretty much substandard (getting a squad is based on comparison with the eldar situation of book psychic book 1, rather than the ff chapters)

What I wish we will get: All our characters and potentially someone new too. Both Sword brothers and Crusaders, the former their own kit the latter done by fancy upgrade kit. As this option is entirely unrealistic in the short term, a possible future fancy upgrade kit could also take into account possibly released generic melee units made in the meantime.

What i want within reason:

EC, Sword Bros, Sprue (cards dice etc)

The minimum i expect us to receive:

Sprue and one HQ (EC or random marshal)

Preferably both.

I think Intercessor squads mixed with phobos (DW already does this) could fit well as proto crusader squads. Even if its just ranged, with the Angels of Death rule they do have a bit more of bite.

I dont expect it to happen to be honest.

What i hope so far:

- in a whole: very choppy and being competitive

- at least 6 relics and 6 special wargear

- at least 6 WL Traits

-  2 special rules in the assault phase or one in the tactical and one in the assault phase

- a Primaris Charakter and Unit (Primaris Grimaldus and Primaris Crusader Squad)

- 16 stratagems ( one of them to be "one unit is in the assault phase" and "this unit get a free lithany")

- special focus on lithanies for all purposes (stratagems, WL-Traits, Wargear and extrarules)

- Grimaldus get more old rules back...as hero of helsreach he should get a rule who let him return like gulliman on a 4+

- a upgrade sprue with tabbards

- a complete story and answers to our lorequestions (5000+ initates or just a thousand; ...)

- an epic involvement / secret in something for the endtimes like a vision from Keeler to Sigismund revealed in the closed Librarium of the Eternal Crusader - a dark secret like that...

What i fear:

- just our old relics + vigilus relics back

- just the old and vigilus WL Trait

- no upgrade kit and no Primaris character or maybe their death

- no changes to our charakters

- no fluff mention

- just a white dwarf treatment with 2-6 stratagems

- just this one rumored special rule in the assault doctrine (what is loveless and very weak if its brought without any other special things)

- staying as weakest chapter in terms of power/gameplay

what I want at least to be happy

-  at least 6 relics and 6 special wargear

- 6 WL Traits

- the special rule in the assault doctrine + Stratagem for one unit to be in this doctrine OR 2 special rules in the assault doctrine

-  at least one standard primaris upgrade kit or charakter (just to see that GeDub have love for us in the future)

-  at least the change from reroll failed hits into reroll hits for our charakters

- at least 12 stratagems

- a bit new lore

- on a line with gaming power with the other chapters ( must not being as strong as the iron hands)

what I expect:

- 6 WL Traits

- 6 Relics and 3-4 special wargear / 8+ relics

- the special rule in the assault doctrine

- no kit and no new model / Primaris charakter

- just unimportant new lore (just for the story in pschic awakening)

- being one of the weaker space Marine chapters on the table

- 6-12 stratagems

- just minor changes for our charakters (Grim can speak 2 Lithanies, two must takes and the cenobits are just a reroll for a lithnie)

and all charakters get reroll hits instead of reroll failed hits

ALL in ALL - not the worst case but even disappointed - especially to see we will be unimportant for GW in the future and the focus is just into the First Founding chapter crap.

by the way - i am very suprised that you all are think we get new models. I dont think so.

I mean, it fits perfectly into the "BT will be in book 2" narrative

The real question is still what being in book 2 in actually gets us

Book 1 is all about Eldar and Dark Eldar - maybe focus on Ynnari. And there are a lot of new models ( new Drazhar, new Phoenix Jain Zar, new Plastic Incubi and Plastic Aspect Warriors.... ) it seems to be a bigger release. So its a very good sign for us.

Sure, but book 2 is supposedly shared with sisters. The sister symbol was found with regards to map 2, on the psychic awakening site. That means they might get half or even more than that of the good guy side.

Kikasstou has never mentioned the sisters with regards to book 2 though, which is hopeful, since it means the focus could actually be on us for a change....

We just don't know

maybe they got their codex and the book is without their rules - just their story

Of course sisters will have their own codex. That doesn't change that they still might steal focus from us in book 2, which could impact potential model releases.

So far each eldar side looks to be getting a leader and a squad. If book 2 gets the same amount, there could be a real chance that either or both models are for the "new hot thing" rather than us. That's what I'm dreading the most, to be stuck with rules again while everyone else actually gets toys.

Wait, lore question. So as the honorable @Acebaur mentioned, Primaris start as Neophytes in Scout armor as well, because Phobos is power armor, and cannot be utilized without a black carapace. So, how does Black Templar recruiting happen, given all that? I mean, do the Primaris Initiates that are new to crusades get first or last picks? Do the firstborn Iniates only give the Primaris the "leftovers" among Neophytes? Wouldn't that make for interesting conflict? The Neophytes left for the Primaris to mentor would be feeling rejected for being somehow inferior to the rest of their class, only to receive "upgrades" that make them superior in most ways. So, they would be coming up in the ranks as Primaris, and very disenfranchised with Black Templar traditions and culture. Hopefully, Grimaldus is putting pressure on his Primaris Chaplains to curtail this disturbing lack of zeal.
