Creating a Black Legion army.

Recommended Posts

Hello all, first off I'd like to apologise if I come off as annoying or something, I am new here and this is the first forum I have every joined, but that is because I have never really been social and I'd like to change that, so sorry again if I do make any mistakes or something.

Anyways, I would like to get opinions from you guys and girls about my Black Legion idea if that's cool? what is have been thinking is, is that I want to mix my favourite Pre-heresy legion "Luna Wolves/Sons of Horus" with the Black Legion whilst not breaking too much of the lore.

I though about making a custom character that has survived the nightmares of the warp and now leads his own warband after pledging his alliegence to Abaddon the Despoiler.

There are other things to go with this, such as white and dark green armour pieces to go with the black and gold, and I am working on a story for this warband to give a better backround on them, however I would like to know what you all think of it?

Many thanks!

It sounds cool!

The Black Legion supplement from 7th edition spelled out several successor chapters from the Sons of Horus. May make sense to look at those for inspiration.

On the tabletop, I used my Sons of Horus in place of my Black Legion troops before. No one has ever had an issue with it, most people think the models look cool.

Good luck!

Thanks! I had no idea about that, from what I was told Abaddon tries to destroy any warband that tries to link it's self with Horus. Either way, I'm gonna look more into these warbands.

Welcome to the Bolter & Chainsword!  And sure, feel free to ask questions and share your thoughts and models - that's what the forum is for, after all.

Hopefully it works out. These chapters are called the Thrice Cursed Traitors, there's 3 mentioned in the book:

- Sons of the Eye (who were lead by a Sorcerer)

- Wolves of Horus (who wear the Luna Wolves colors)

- True Sons (who wear the Sons of Horus colors)

There's pages about each on the web. I did play a Luna Wolves army once, CSMs painted in white along with Spawn / Possessed and it looked very cool.

The old fluff was always that Abaddon killed every other Sons of Horus Captain but outside of that you can really fit in whatever you want. My Wolves of Cthonia have normal Black Legion colours but are led by a Sons of Horus Warlord who self-promoted himself from Terminator Sergeant to Captain during the Scouring and never fled to the Eye of Terror so considers the rest of the Black Legion to be the descendants of cowards who he begrudgingly acknowledges as being dominant, for now...

Amazing, I'm gonna have a good time reading into these!

That sounds awesome, and the True Sons sound very interesting, thanks for sharing!
