Thanks for the explanation - that makes a lot of sense.  BTW, what did you use to shade her hair - its an effect I would like to try at some point.

I just bascoated it if with a mix of white, black with a tiny addition of blue. Sorry I can't give exact color but I really like to mix and here was no exception  Adding a little blue into the shades is my standard approach to painting white. The overall result gives a more clean effect. From there it was only progressively highlighting the edges.
