Ooh, lovely injection of Novamarines and Salamanders into this thread! I'm technically honor-bound to dislike them but they're just so pretty I can't help it.

Brother Dallo, I love the conversions on those two. That cracked relic chestplate on the sergeant is so cool looking!

Gederas, that's a glorious green you've got on those guys, what's your recipe?

It's the standard Salamanders recipe, Warpstone Glow over Waagh Flesh with a recess shade of Nuln Oil and a highlight of Moot Green

Here are a couple of old models that I've had sitting around since the mid-90s. I thought it'd be fun to paint them as Fire Angels. I had fun trying to paint white armor; I will paint up a few more to round out the kill team.

The beakie model made me think, "Aren't you a little short to be an Imperial Space Marine?".

Here are a few more Fire Angels. I took a little liberty with the color scheme; I prefer the older white/bone color scheme over the silver color scheme.

Unfortunately progress on my Executioners stalled as I worked on other projects instead, so for now my original vow will have to remain incomplete.

However, one of the projects I have been working on is actually a Badab Chapter, so in penance I present Lieutenant-Commander Ajax of the Exorcists. Equipped with artificer armour, master crafted boltgun and power fist, and with hexagramatic wards adorning his wargear to protect from daemonic influence.

Well, I wasn't quite able to complete these guys in time for my vow; just like in the Badab War itself, the Mantis Warriors faltered at the last moment. I was only able to complete two of my vowed five figures, making me 3/5ths an oathbreaker :ermm: I maintain that I could have completed them, but got sidetracked by silly things like spending time with my boyfriend and celebrating New Year's Eve. Still, in the days since I have completed another four, making for a total of six new-style Mantis Warriors of mine that are now complete. So, without further ado, here they are!

gallery_74400_16105_1768403.jpg

Pictured above are the first six marines completed! Breaking them down individually, they are (left to right):

  • Brother Áki, squad pointman
  • Brother Ciríaco, squad scanner
  • Brother Ib, squad marksman
  • Brother Mostava, squad breacher
  • Brother Ernő, squad demi-sergeant
  • Brother Manu, squad marksman

Had a ton of fun painting these guys. The spray primer frosted a little and obscured some detail, which forced me to paint differently than my usual methods in an effort to put some of that detail back in. Went crazy with the highlights and tried to force myself into a more impressionistic approach, with less line-highlighting and more blended color. It was mostly just a product of the rushed painting session and the frosted primer, but I'm really pleased with it and think I will continue it across the army. The yellow is still very bright but with the addition of the extra highlights on the green I feel like it works well.

They were painted in order: Ib, Áki, Mostava, Ciríaco, Ernő, Manu. I think my two favorites are Áki and Manu, I'm really pleased with their poses and they were the least frosted by the primer.

I think this picture shows Demi-Sergeant Brother Ernő a little better, and some of the leg highlighting as well.

This pic in the sunlight might show the true colors of the marines a little better.

Really in love with the way these guys fit together as a unit, I'm so pleased with how they came out. Looking forward to painting the rest of the marines I have on the table right now; two heavy bolter marines and two sniper/scouts. I also have other marines in various stages of assembly, but bits sites are short on the Champion pauldrons I have been buying in bulk for these guys lately. Really I should just cast them up at the same time as the Imperial Space Marine heads and backpacks, but I haven't quite got desperate enough for bits to do another load.

I'm not sure if Dosjetka had intended for this challenge to go on another year, but I'm finding the Badab-specific group input to be really motivating, so until he says otherwise:

I, Naryn, do swear to complete a Kill Team consisting of at least another FIVE Mantis Warriors models who are committed to the Secessionist cause. The deadline for this will be December 31st, 2021, and I shall do the utmost best to redeem myself for my failure and to not fail my brothers- and sisters-in-arms.

Anyone else have Badab plans for the New Year and/or feel like vowing again? :whistling:

Happy new year everyone and thanks for motivating me to work on these guys, this is my favorite thread on the board!

As long as someone is motivated enough to participate, let it continue! :)

Your Mantis Warriors look great and you should be proud of them. I look forward to seeing the next five. :tu:

Hello!

Good cast of models, looking forward to seeing them painted and as a complete kill team! :D

+ + + + +

Now, I have some plans for a Badab War Kill Team, I just can't seem to choose a Chapter... I'll have to sit down and think about this seriously during my holidays, and hopefully get a start on the project! Finally!

I must know what the right hand is from on the big guy. The conversion is Sick btw.

I really enjoined this build so I'm down again for continuing! Eventually I will get on working on another 5 models for my Raptors Back to Badab Kill team so....

I, WAR009 , do swear to add another 5 Raptors models who are committed to the Loyalist cause to My Kill Team. The deadline for this will be December 31st, 2021,

It looks like the right arm of an Ambot. :smile.:

Lol I meant the models right, not the arm on the right side of the photo.

In that case, it's one of the standard arms that come with the Ogryn Charonite Squad kit.

Yep, model's right arm is from the FW Charonite ogryn kit and the left is the ambot arm but with the 'thumb' replaced with a pincer from the Charonite ogryn kit as well.

Any chance I could get a hand in choosing a Chapter, please? At this point, I don't any are off the table. :)
