IMHO the new helmet sizes are too small. They don’t look like they could accommodate a head, even with the bare head scale reduction. Helmets should look a little oversized.

I think GW are going for a different aesthetic in 2.0, which unfortunately along with the poor quality of rules writing, poor FAQ support post release and the blatant attempt to prevent players using existing collections (in particular esoteric units), has curbed my appetite for new purchases.

I 100% agree, they've done the helmets as proportional to the body without thinking about the heads inside.

The new IG had the exact same issue, where the helmets looked like they were just merged into the bare heads rather than placed over them. There was a post on the 30k subreddit (5 man, SoH plasma gun team) the other day which did a headswap on one and had the new helmets for 3 others and a bare head for the sgt and it didn't seem like the bare head would fit in it. Another post a while back had a Mk3 with the Mk2 head from the vehicle sprue and the Mk2 was larger than the new Mk3s.

I learned this at a fairly young age trying on my first bicycle helmet. I picked one out, thought it looked so very sleek and cool, and then I looked in the mirror - tragically, real helmets tend to make the person wearing them look a little bobble-headed (look at the Stormtroopers from the Star Wars movies compared to in comics!).

I'm not really fussed over it; I kind of like the proportionately smaller heads - I think it makes them look more exaggerated without making the models bigger, although it doesn't really make sense when you've got a bare-headed marine next to a helmeted one.

It makes sense to me. He's bareheaded because, unlike the rest, his helmet doesn't fit.

Wonderful paint job. The face is particularly good and the overall result is perfect. I'd really better paint mine now!

Well, thank you very much! And thanks once again for the conversion idea!

Been working on some of the new Mk3 marines. Such an awesome kit, surprised I haven't seen more of them out and about so far.

This fellow is a part of a small loyalist Death Guard force. The red knee is a nod to his past as a Dusk Raider.

Here's my contribution to death guard fall:

I promised myself I wouldn't burn out our on it like my last stab at them; there's another 9 terminators and 11 marines at this stage of needing some details and a whole whack of infantry and dreads that are waiting to be primed.

Originally I said I probably wouldn't use the indomitus terminators from leviathan, but after the mark iii glow-up. I've been thinking about making a squad to represent pure raptors that survived, unlike the mutants that came with the second batch. In-game I'll play them as Deliverers. Shouldn't need a lot of kitbashing.

@Dont-Be-Haten sounds good to me!

I'm a little perplexed as to what to do for my 30K.

I assembled but never got round to painting around 40 of the older plastic MkIII and MkIV, have at least two copies of Betrayal at Calth, one Burning of Prospero, 25 resin Assault Marines and a bunch more infantry in the older scales.

But I'm liking the new scale and I imagine (and hope) the other marks are coming (IV is my favourite) and I also imagine they'd look at maybe upscaling the Cataphractii and Tartaros too. I think the Indomitus look great and I can't wait to see the Assault and Chapter specific versions if they're coming.

So I really don't know what to do.

I can’t place the terminator model - the torso is a death wing one with the Gothic arch? But what about the rest?

That'd be because it's a print. The torso did use the death wing styled torsos included in the pack, since they were meant for the night lords originally with their more gothic style.

Honestly tortuga bay or converted leviathan terminators would probably look better in terms of proportions and details, but i find them both a tad too big; even these guys were supposed to be larger, but i got the parts shrunk down to 90% of the intended scale.

Finished up the Iron Havocs. Ten man squad of autocannons! Had fun with this squad, didn't do anything super special for them, though I considered it. The other ten man I need to put out is a squad of Havocs with bolters, might do something there. Not sure!

On the subject of scale, I blow hot and cold about how “heroic” I like my heroic scale. I noticed the new mk vi have slightly smaller heads and hands, and a bit more abdomen. But it seemed to me they gained most in the shins. So I thought I could use spare bolt guns on the old mk iv:

And I think they are fine except the bayonets look silly without the legs to balance. Hence why after a couple I swapped to having bayonets not yet “fixed”.

Anyway, yet another WIP squad, will be recon for now, with the ultimate aim to make them tactical, so I need to make the sergeant legal for both.

Procrastinating painting my Death Guard tacticals with some 6 mm Epic Mechanicum.

Anti-air! Expensive, short-ranged and useless!

Personally I'd plan out an army with what you have and start a new project with the new MK4 if they do them, after all, both scales look fine by themselves, it's the mix that's obnoxious.

Especially handy if they are opposed loyalties so you can easily switch sides :)

WIP shot of my Cataphractii Warsmith with Thunder Hammer and Combi-Melta.

My apologies for the bad pictures, my phone camera has decided to no longer function so had to use my tablets camera instead.

The base of the model is the Lord of Contagion, with arms from the Blightlords kit, a Combi-Melta from the Betrayal At Calth Cataphractii Praetor, the helmet is a normal plastic Cataphractii Terminator with the mouth grill cut off and instead attached to the lower part of a Grey Knight Terminator Apothecary helmet, the hammer is made from a Iron Priest Thunder, a Corvus Pick from the Ravenwing Knights, a handguard from the World Eaters Juggernaut Lord and various bits and pieces from whatever Power Weapons I had on hand.

His armour is also heavily covered in plasticard to resemble the Tyrant Siege Terminators looks.

EDIT: Added better pictures.

I can empathise with you on this quasi-conundrum. In the end, I consoled myself with the fact that there are countless examples in Horus Heresy lore of Space Marines of varying heights and builds. I don't think it's an issue if some Marines are taller than others; they're not identical clones after all.

Whilst some of the scaling on certain armour mark models does bother me (MK IV in particular), I just think it's the kind of thing you notice if you look at them too long...which we inevitably do when working on models.

The upscaling is a good idea in principle but then they made characters absolutely enormous in comparison to troops (also the new helmets feel too small-both MK VI and III). Personally I am not a fan of the new MK VI and MK III designs; I enjoyed the pared back simplicity of the older MK VI and the older MK III somehow conveyed a sort of brutality missing in the recent redesign.

I've been magnetising the new Mk3 plastics and heavy/special weapons, video on IG if you have it:

Also finished making the unit of 10 breachers, and added 5 culverin dudes to the mix:

Please excuse the terrible pics, but have been building on the side while working from home. Finished 10x Nemesis Destroyers and a Legion Pathfinder (just Telion with a holstered shotgun from the scout bikes kit ).

New phone and new camera.  So, I made this guy, as Armistos Consul, and I take a pic. I'm recycling some old miniatures with stuff from my bits box and this boy is the first of them.

Pending of been definitely glued.

These are stunning :)

Can I ask what your paint method is for the armour/weathering in general?

How hard is to work with resin? I might get the FW terror squad heads and use them in sergeants and characters (would use them with new mk6 armor, I think they look good together). Is the FW quality acceptable now?

Also, does anybody know someone that has used the new night lords mk6 heads somewhere? I wasn't able to find them anywhere to look at some pics.

I have zero experience with resin. thanks!
