Random question now I'm looking to come back.

I likely want the ability to field full squads of infantry as an option (although imagine I'll rarely be taking 20 men Squads as seem a little unwieldly) but my starting point is going to be smaller units and I'm also unsure how I'd equip the rest of the unit (given Grey Slayers can all take Power Weapons, I wouldn't give them all one though haha).

Would it make more sense to paint up full squads (not too much of an issue for any Tacticals/Bolter Slayers I'll have) or expand squads as and when I feel like it?

I can see cases for both.

Finished my Ultramarines squad.

Ostensibly they're for my son but on the sly I did them to update the Betrayal at Calth minis so I made them Vet Tacs. I also couldn't resist doing Thiel. Even if he isn't part of the story of the board game he was on Calth and that was enough justification for me. The A on the shoulder pads is the first letter of my son's name. He insisted on it.

Wow, they look really great @Corswain! Are those Grey Knights helmets sprinkled in?

Probably. I'm not 100% sure but I think so. A couple of decades worth of Space Marine stuff got mixed together in my bits box and I just found them rummaging through it.

Those tracked guns look super cool! Where did you get them?

Apart from the Magus all of the models seen on those pictures are from temu.

But I know that there are 3d files floating around on the interwebs with these models as well.

Oh no, I feel your pain.

I've just plundered Bitzbox for a bunch of 40K Space Wolves heads and things to add some flavour to my Sixth. I'm not planning on going all in like the 5th Ed SW kits, I always diluted a box of that with a couple of normal Marine boxes so I don't plan on going over the top.

As an aside (they had none in stock so didn't order), does anyone know if the SW Terminator bare heads would fit in the new Cataphractii bodies without looking ridiculous? Wondering if anyone's bashed Indomitus Termies and Cataphractii.

Near perfect.

I just had to get rid of small bits and bobs from the molding process. Luckily I have tools for that.

Speaking of tools.

I stepped up my game in regards to remove mould lines from 3d printed stuff.

Anyone needs a dentist?

I don't know if anyone else is feeling this, but there's something amazing about those new MK4 marines. Just in the proportions and heresy feel. I liked the Mk6 (heads too small) and the MK2 was great, but models in MK4 just look incredible, and really...'heresy'.

Well I'm biased as it's my favourite armour mark.

But I think they've done a great job, I'm looking forward to assembling mine and getting some paint (and for someone to produce the previous MkIV style jump pack as a purchaseable item as opposed to an STL because I'm not getting into printing myself just yet haha).

Since it's too hot to paint I built some dudes on jetbikes.

First is the Apothecary. Since he is not part of the Command Squad per se he doesn't get to wear a crested helmet.

Next up is the standard bearer. The Command Squad will be armed entirely with power lances that's why there is a Grey Knights blade on top of that standard.

I'm really happy how they turned out.

I tried to be productive before my summer holidays finished, and quickly painted up a couple of testers for Thousand Sons. Hopefully, this will be of use to somebody especially if you are thinking about using Vallejo's True Metallic Metals.

I picked up the Forged Red first, but thought it was way too orange on an old marine tester. The Ruby Red is very different and certainly appears like ruby IRL. Neither are actually a regular red, but are really interesting options.

As a general note the air version hand brushes much better than the regular base version. The base version is probably best used for cover-ups, imo. The shades are very strong so I'd recommend diluting. The lights are probably best for high spot-lights rather than edge high-lighting etc. unless you want to go really light.

The gold trim is Vallejo Old gold, which I'd swap for the new Greenish Gold air in future, and eyes, poorly painted, with the Vallejo TMM Beetle green.

The testers are quick and dirty so sorry for the obvious faults.
