Definitely saving for inspiration for when I make a start on my stuff. Wulfen kit mostly but I think there are one or two Ork bits hiding in there too. Hair and beards are my first go at sculpting and the wolf furs are done using the Greenstuff World texture plate. Really happy with how they turned out but I need to work on my photos - I really feel like they look better in person. derLumpi
Who doesn't love a bunch of knights! They look cool already! I built a Praetor for an all jetbike list. Still unsure about the Front though. Going with the fancy Ultramarine symbol or with the standard eagle. I don't think it fills the space as well as the eagle. derLumpi and SlickSamos 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/363129-30k-hobby-chat/page/181/#findComment-6183004 Share on other sites
derLumpi
Yeah, I think you are right. I might give Greenstuff a try and do a self made ultima. :-/ Corswain 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/363129-30k-hobby-chat/page/181/#findComment-6183101 Share on other sites

Griefbringer
You could do both the aquila and ultima, since there is a fair bit of space available. Place the aquila first in the centre ("The Emperor is always first in our minds"). Then place two smaller legion symbols, placing sideways on either side, in the flat space behind it ("The Legion comes in importance immediately after The Emperor"). If you want to try making your own big ultima-symbols, instead of greenstuff you could simply try drawing them on paper and cutting them out - this gives them a thin, even thickness. Simply glue to the surface with a bit of watered-down PVA glue, let it dry, and then apply another coat of watered down varnish on top - this will help to harden the paper when it dries, making it sturdier (further paint layers will help to further protect it). derLumpi 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/363129-30k-hobby-chat/page/181/#findComment-6183332 Share on other sites
derLumpi
Thanks for that tip! Sounds doable! I remembered that I got some spare 40k shoulder guards. Cut one down, filed it some more. It's still rough and thick but I think this could work of I File it down some more. Griefbringer
That shoulder pad idea is interesting and could work for a number of purposes, but there on the jetbike front hood it tends to stick out quite a lot - and it is still quite small for the space available. Perhaps it would look better e.g. on some curved surface on a dreadnought? derLumpi
So I had an Idea for that Ultima. I know it's still rough. Need to trim a lot and I'm still not sure if and how it will fit. But that's a fun little experiment. lokkorex
These two are almost ready for undercoating: Centurion, just needs some gubbins or pouches to his waist, a shoulder pad for his right arm and I'm pondering if his backpack top needs replacing. Castraferrum Dreadnought, used some incredibly rare forge world iron warriors brass etch to add some detail to him, as well as a plasticard heavy support symbol to the right side of his chassi. derLumpi and SlickSamos 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/363129-30k-hobby-chat/page/181/#findComment-6185033 Share on other sites

lokkorex
Finished building this guy: I like how the addition of the scanner from a devastator sergeant ended up balancing the model a little from being so right-leaning. I should have just used a normal mk.3 backpack for him, since the only original part of the old finecast techmarine backpack that ended up being used was the center upper part. Ah well, c'est la vie, hopefully I can use the leftover for my next centurion. derLumpi and Corswain 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/363129-30k-hobby-chat/page/181/#findComment-6185464 Share on other sites
derLumpi
He looks so awesome! Really great model! Almost done with my self printed(?) Ultima. I have to remove some material from the backside on the bottom as it is too thick but I really like it already. It should reduce some of the grainy texture on the press casts.
