I ordered a mark iv command squad a couple of weeks ago and the banner had a literal hole in. Just got a refund rather than a replacement as the item is "no longer available". Maybe that kit is actually dead. Heard alot of people complain about it.

Oh man that sucks for you :(  I like the SoH Command squad (and the MkIII obviously), but I always thought their nice spikey SoH models felt a bit smaller.

Now then folks, does anyone have any advice for weathering with powders? I'm experimenting for the first time on a Land Raider (see my thread in my signature). Does anyone have any tips or tricks they'd like to recommend?

so you have kinda 3 ways of using them.

1. use an old brush to just scoop them on as a powder and move them where you need them.

2. Mix with some alcohol and use them for streaks of rust etc.

3. mix with paint and make a textured paint (good for mud and rust)

you will need to seal your mini or use a pigment fixer to get them to stick, spray varnishes will dull them down alot so i do mine, varnish and then redo them. and just accept that they will wear off from time to time.

Hey, 10 marines in two years - that's giving me a run for my money!  Love the squad: weathering, little kitbashes like the nuncio vox, and those bases - beautiful stuff.  What's next for this army?

Thanks, really appreciate it! Have another Tac Squad in MKIII and some Rhinos to paint up next, as well as some Seekers.

As for the time it took, I did paint the first half of the squad back in 2019, only for them to be covered in brick dust during building work and then lost in a box while moving house. So that's my excuse for them at least :teehee:

So i've been plinking away at a First Legion monthly pledge I created, i'm tat for tit on time for the first three months! Without further adieu, another tactical squad was done. FW took away my Crusade pattern armor, so I made (printed) my own. Lots of plastic and resin pieces to supplement it all. Before I get my head chewed off for the Sargeant not being a legal loadout... I mostly did it for rule of cool! The first lad coming up is my favorite of the bunch though, he perfectly encapsulates movement and speed, like a cheetah bounding for its next target. Basically, think that scene from Astartes, by Sayma Pederson.

Couple more shots over at my instagram, @251stExpeditionaryFleet!

I wouldn't worry too much about it being a legal load out. He clearly picked up the sword half way through the fight right?! ;)

Really nice!

I just ordered a death guard dread from FW. Is there a model used less for its intended purpose than this one? It's so rarely seen as a death guard dread. Maybe Polux, he's hardly ever an IF!

If you get a £30 refund for a broken model, the only sensible option is to immediately give it back for another right.. Right..?

Dude, those are some sick looking Astartes.

Awesome work.

Thanks Gorgie.

Amazing looking Dark Angels. What is your recipe for the black armour?

Honestly? Just valejo black, airbrushed on. Stipple leadbelcha or your choice of iron metallic on as battle damage, try to hit edges as much as possible, don't be afraid to clean up spots that eliminate too much of the base power armor color. Thaaaaat's it. The pigment powders then settle into crevices and little tiny cracks to provide more depth to the otherwise flat black armor. Using lots of spot colors and areas, like the reds and decals here, makes the otherwise bland and black Dark Angels pop, I find!

Totally! :P and don't come @ me like this, I've used Pollux twice. Once as a Champion for my Night Lords, and once as a basis for a World Eater...

Those are some shmexy Dark Angels! And a very nice Salamander from you Mogsam!

I got Pollux for use in making Farith Redloss  The hard part for me has been finding the parts for his axe and a good head for him....

DG contemptor dread is the best and to be fair (no awkward style metal bordering or fancy logos, just good old fashioned bonding studs), I'm still surprised I've not purchased Pollux too!  He's a great model, I keep meaning to make a little Zone Mortalis grouping of IF's with Pollux too - but I keep getting distracted and hate the thought of painting yellow.

i have 2 or 3 of them in my white scars i love them they are the best for that more down to earth gritty heresy look.

We have come, we are Death....

Test model for my Dreadwing focussed Dark Angels army coming on well, just details to complete now. Then it's a case of getting through the rest of the Interemptors, Destroyers, tactical marines, Cenobium, characters and vehicles!

I think the base could do with something on it to provide contrast. Green grass would provide good contrast, but arguably scorched grass or desert vegetation would be a better fit with the red dust (and more suggestive of the scorched landscape the Dreadwing would leave behind them). I'll probably experiment with both and see what works best. C&c welcome.

Do you use anything to fix the pigments or just let them settle? Have you every tried to use heavily thinned streaking grime?  After washing the model in 1:3 SG to spirit, washing the model, and then clearing away the excess with swab and spirit the effect turns out similarly to the pigment. May be something fun to try.

Good job on that Interemptor! (uuugh, what a gross name, imo.)

I seal the model after i'm done painting it, valejo matte varnish through an airbrush. This tones the decals down if I do them correctly, and it might be placebo - but I find that the pigments stick better to this. Then I apply them with an old brush, and go over the model with a pigment sealant from green stuff world, applied through my airbrush as well, gingerly on low PSI. A lot of the pigments is blown off, but enough remains to stick!

I personally like the axe grip as it is on the praetor. I would change the right hand though, maybe to demonstrate that it's being swung? Maybe give him something like tokens in motion at the haft of the axe and chainsword to further exaggerate the movement?

I have tokens etc, that I can use for that, was also thinking to paly with some Tamiya clear red and uhu glue too :D

The axe is fine, but th handle not lining up  and stuff has been really bugging me and I wish I hadn't traded the original runic knife he came with, for the axe.

So I swapped the axe out for the reiver knife, I also repositioned the arm to be a bit more forward, so cut away and used an elbow pad from a spare arm to fill the gap. I do not mind it being a bit rough, as I can cover it when I re-do the pelts.

I re-angled the sword arm too, now just not sure if I need to tweak either the knife angle or sword angle to bring them more in-line?

Finished off a Captain/Champion for the Emperor's Children (still needs basing, etc). I feel a bit dissatisfied with him actually, does anyone have any suggestions (additional angles in the WiP log in my thread)?
